Chapter 19: Her Savior

Avery didn’t know how she got the energy after what happened but she immediately hugged her savior. Her body was trembling in fear. “Calm down, I’m here.” Carson said as he patted her back.

Just then, the police came. Carson knew the moment he received the message that it wasn’t for him. Good thing he was not that far from the hospital yet so he was able to rush over and call the authorities. When he saw

Avery by the convenience store, he immediately grabbed whatever it is that he could find and saved her.

Avery hugged him tight. She was thankful that Carson was there to save her. The way he patted her back felt comforting and warm. It finally felt that she has a home to go home to.

“What happened?” The policeman asked. Avery let go of Carson and looked at her. “He just started talking to me.” She was sure that John won’t tell them the truth because if the public knew about their relationship, his situation would worsen.

The policeman nodded, “He did smell alcohol. He might be drinking too much.” Carson turned to John who was carried by the police to their car. He frowned, “but that’s the CEO of JDC Mobile, right? What happened to him?”

The policeman sighed and watched John enter the car. “Didn’t you hear? His company was under investigation because he was corrupt. Maybe his wife left him too.” When Avery and Carson did not respond, the policeman turned to them. “Did you know him?”

She nodded. She can’t deny especially when a lot of people know the guy. Carson then helped her stand up. “I’ll take her back to the hospital.” The policeman nodded in agreement. Carson looked at her with worry. His hand on her arm was warm and comforting and she can’t remember the last she felt this way.

She wasn’t able to say anything while they walked. Her mind was full of thoughts about what she should do about John. He might come after her and ruin her plans. He knew she has a new target but who could tell him?

“Avery?”

He held her arm, making her turn to him in surprise, “I didn’t know the room of your friend.” She nodded, “Uh. I’m sorry. I need to thank you for what you did for me. Thank you.”

Carson smiled, “It’s nothing.” He can see that she was bothered about what happened. He didn’t want to ask anything but he heard some of their conversation. John knew her personally and he had a grudge against her. He wanted to kill her, but why?

Her body trembled when she hugged him and even now, her hand was still shaking. Avery lightly smiled at him and head first. As he watched her walk away, he kept thinking about her connection to John.

The next morning, Avery came to the office wearing a long sleeved white top and straight cut skirt. Her hair was curled as usual and her make-up was natural. Everyone on that floor turned their heads when she walked by. Some even whispered to their friends.

Ever since she started working for Carson, she had been the topic of the employees. But she never reacted to any of those as she was so busy getting Carson’s attention. When she opened the door, she was surprised to see a group of men in his office.

All of them turned to her, including Carson and Ji. She was flustered that she forgot that the meeting was today. She immediately bowed her head. “Good morning. I’m sorry, I’m late.”

“Oh, it’s fine sweetie. Carson wanted us to finish before you come.” Ji responded with a smirk on his face. She immediately started preparing coffee. She knew everyone in the room as all of these men are the board members of Lee Technology.

She heard the men talking about their business plans. After she was done preparing their coffee, she slowly walked to the huge table by the side of the room. The men were busy with their meeting but she noticed that some of them would look at her as she walked to them. Avery planned to seduce all of them but that would mean she’d lose Carson’s trust so she kept everything professional.

Every time she would place a cup, she would just smile at them and each one looked surprised by how beautiful she was, except Ji. He smirked when she got close, “I really like your perfume.”

She smiled at him, “Thank you. I can recommend it to you so your wife can use it too.” Carson smiled a bit when he heard this but he continued the presentation. Ji frowned but he needed to keep his composure.

The last cup was for Carson. She placed a small note with a good luck on it. She has to win him over, even it meant risking her chance with 7 potential targets. Carson turned to her when he saw the note. Avery smiled. She gave him the sweetest smile she had.

Ji watched the two. Everything was working according to his plan. He tapped his pen on the table. He was feeling excited all of a sudden. He already knew her past and when he heard about the incident last night, he knew exactly how to use her to win against Carson.

After handing their coffee, Avery head back to her seat. She was checking her tasks when she heard one of the board members mention about an event. She took a glimpse of Carson and he looked worried about the said event.

“I wonder who you’ll be going with, Carson. I heard you broke little Jenny’s heart.” Ji said, his voice was too loud that it echoed around the room. Ji turned to Avery who was also looking at him. He smirked. Her eyes widen in surprise.

“What happened?” some of the board members asked Carson who just ignored their questions. Ji turned to Carson and Avery understood that something is up.
