And The World Crumbles

5 years later

Today's the day! My boy will be an Alpha!

Andy doesn't want to be Alpha but once he is proven he will get stronger. He plans to challenge his father as soon as he is confident he can win. I know my pup will be an excellent Alpha.

"Momma!" Little Aaron runs up to me. Well maybe not to little at 11 he's nearly my height. "Andy is 20! I carved him this wolf statue. It's an Alpha like him!" The pup smiles as he sets his gift on the table.

"I'm sure he'll love it Aaron." I tell him.

"I'm gonna go see him. Wish him a happy birthday. I kinda want to see him proven anyway." He says and I quickly stop him.

"Andy is coming over tonight to celebrate with us. He said he just wants the morning with his mate." I tell him hissing the word mate.

Don't get me wrong, I want my pup happy, but this girl... something is off. Who puts off the mating ceremony for two years. The pull is hard to fight. I just don't trust her. Maybe I'm just jealous that shes taken my boy. Who knows? As long as he's happy so is this momma wolf.

That night Andy never came home. I linked Beta James and found out he was  beaten by his father and is in the infirmary. I told Aaron that he had some work to do and we'd see him tomorrow. I don't have the heart to tell him the truth. Andy is not an Alpha which will turn all attention to Aaron. My baby boy will be taken from me and I don't know what will happen to my little protector. If he's not an Alpha his father will have no use for him. I can't lose my pup!

"Ahhhhh!" I hear a scream from outside waking me in the early morning.

"No!" I whisper as I run to the window. A mother knows her pup's voice.

I peek through the curtain to see my boy bound to a pole. My mate towers over his own son with a whip in his hand.

"What is it momma?" Aaron asks as he comes up behind me. I can't let him see Andy like this. The mother in me wants to run out there and protect my eldest but I can't do that and protect the boy in front of me. If I go out there they will both lose their mother. I can't help Andy but I will save Aaron from seeing his brother like that.

"Aaron, I need you to listen to me. I want you to go to your..."

Whip!

"Ahhhhhhh!" Another cry causes me to flinch.

"Go to your room and put on some music." I finish.

"Momma, what's going on?" He asks trying to look past me.

"Listen to me, Aaron!" I yell and he looks me in the eye. "Do as you're told. Please, my precious pup, just do what I ask you. I will explain later. For now I just need out to listen." I beg him and he nods as he hugs me.

"Of course momma." He says and runs upstairs to his room closing the door.

The window in his room faces the woods so as long as he remains in there he won't see a thing. I hear the music start and smile when I hear swing music come out of the speakers. Aaron truly is my boy. He has it on loud as he always does so I just hope it drowns out his brother's screams. The next scream wipes the small smile from my face as tears fall down.

"Protect him." I send up a prayer. I desperate plea for divine intervention.

After it is quiet I dare to look out the window again. I see my pup's bloody body and gasp. I run out the door but am caught in someone's arms as I try to reach my boy.

"Katie! Katie!" He shakes me to get my attention.

"Turn me loose, Beta! My boy!" I beg him as I cry.

"He's alive, Katie, he's alive. Listen you can hear his heart beat." Beta James tells me as he holds me still. I listen hard and hear the weak beat of Andy's heart.

"Let me go. I need to help him." I implore somewhat calmer.

"The Alpha is still watching. You need to wait a while. We'll take care of your pup but we need to be smart. You know Carson. Nothing is stopping him from killing the boy now." Beta James advises.

"I can't lose him, James." I sob.

"And you won't. Right now you need to look after Aaron. I won't let little Carson die." He says and I growl.

"Don't use that monster's name in connection with my pup!"

"Andy will be fine." He corrects knowing what I call my boy. "Trust me, Katie." I nod and go to check on Aaron.

"How's it going, pup?" I ask trying to smile as I enter Aaron's room.

"Good... you ready to tell me what that was about? Was it a rouge? Did someone disrespect Father?" He asks.

"I'll tell you later." I say. I know he is curious but I don't want him to worry. Once Andy is on the mend I'll tell him. I see him bite his lip like he wants to argue but he doesn't. "So what are you doing?" I ask looking at the papers strewn across his bead.

"Math homework with a little history thrown in to spice it up." He jokes.

"What are you talking about in history?" I ask trying to keep myself and my son distracted. Aaron seems to realize this and indulges me.

"Well most recently we have ben studying explorers. You know Columbus wasn't the first one to discover the Americas?" He begins the discussion.

We talked a few hours and I helped him with his math. We were talking about how Beta James's son Clayton is apparently dating a young girl in the pack. According to Aaron the boy is completely smitten and is a little romantic. Puppy love! So cute. As we were talking I heard the door slam open and jumped up.

"Stay here." I tell Aaron as I run out of his room. As I reach the top of the stairs so does my mate.

"Get out of my way, woman." He growls as I stand in front of him.

"Carson, please." I beg.

"The first one was a dud. Give me the pansy pup you kept. I still need an heir and I won't let this one be weak. I should have taken Junior from you sooner then maybe none of this would have happened!" He yells grabbing hold of me.

"No! You can't have him! You told me he was mine alone! You can't claim him!" I yell holding on to him so he can't move me.

"Let go of me woman! That boy is my blood and my heir! I will have him!" I feel him push me away and my foot catches something. The next thing I know I'm falling unable to stop myself.

Aaron POV

I hear a crash and run out of the room. I know momma told me to stay but I can't! Not if he's hurting her! It's my turn to protect her!

"Momma!" I yell as I run out the door.

"Boy!" My father's voice stops me cold.

"Y..yes f.. f... father." I stutter. I can feel the power coming off of him. This man makes me feel so small. I look at the ground.

"Your brother was a failure. He was no Alpha which means it's now on you. You are the heir and you will be strong. I'm gonna make sure of that!" He growls.

"Was? What happened to Andy?" I ask noticing his use of the past tense.

"Your brother failed to prove himself and like the coward he was he ran from the humiliation. The rouges tore him apart. All the trackers found were pieces." He says like it doesn't matter that his son is dead.

"Andy is dead!? No! I can't lose him!" I cry only to receive a blow to my head that sends me flying into the wall.

"Stop being weak! People die. Suck it up! You will be Alpha so stand up, wash the blood off your face, put on a proper shirt, and come with me." My father commands.

"Proper shirt?" I ask. I mean I'm wearing a shirt. He growls and drags me into my room by an ear.

"Here." He slams a white button up shirt into my chest knocking the wind out of me. "An Alpha doesn't dress like a hobo." He growls at me. Once clean and dressed I step out of the bathroom and make my way downstairs.

"Momma!" I yell when I see her limp body at the bottom of the stairs. I throw myself on her crying my eyes out.

"Get up boy!" My father growls pulling me up by my collar.

"You did this!" I accuse him.

"She fell, you ungrateful brat! I lost my mate and my son and am left with you and you blame me?! If you weren't born my son would have been Alpha! If your mother wouldn't have tried to protect you she wouldn't have fallen. So if anything you killed my family. Be grateful that I let you live and get yourself to the pack house, NOW!" He commands and I have no choice.

I run to the pack house wiping tears from my eyes. I have a feeling my life just got a whole lot worse.

Aaron's story is told in the books Not The Alpha, Brayden, Alpha Lilly, and Orphan Wolf if you want to know more.
