The Rules

I pick up the phone with my shaky hand and wide, worried eyes. "Hello?" I spluttered, swallowing hard as my mouth had gone dry within a matter of seconds.

"Oh yes, Is this Ms. Harvey that I'm speaking to?" He asked with a monotone voice. Making me wonder if he knew that I was gone out for a stroll instead of being in my dorm, resting. I could sense professionalism radiating from the other side of the phone.

"Um, yes it is." I answered him back confidently, still keeping in mind that I was still on the concrete ground, looking like a rich beggar.

"Hello, Ms. Harvey. I am ring in regards to the dance group, otherwise known as Down Town Silver." He took a quick pause of speech as I heard the rustling of paper on his side, filling in for his silence.

He must be looking for somthing.

The phone went dead silent for a single moment soon followed by a far satisfied sigh." Ahhh, yes! From a few resources, it has come to my attention that you will be performing in... in.. The WOD, is that correct?" He addressed me with complete hesitation filled in his tone.

"Yes that is correct sir, may I ask why are you addressing this." I asked in confusion, not fully understanding where he was going with this.

"Well, you see, every year we train a few of our students to compete in this competition. Only one group from each school can compete. Considering your a professional dancer already and no one in your group is in a dance academy, as far as I know, there is no rule to stop you from performing, but I just want confirmation from you to tell me that your not going to compete under the schools name. May that be correct? "

There's rules to this event. All I want to do is make a comback. Not compete.

" Ummm... Yeah. That would be correct sir. We are performing as a guest act and will not be competing, to my knowledge, two of our group will be also attending the event as judges." I replied honestly, trying to clear any misunderstandings between me and him.

" Okay, well thank you for your time. And I hope you feel better soon. I bid you a goodbye Ms. Harvey." And with that he hung up.

""I bid you a Good bye"" What century is he living in. No says that anymore.

I took one deep diaphragmatic breath before realising that during that whole conversation, I was sitting in the cold hard floor. Now that I notice, my butt cheeks have become numb to the cold because I sat here for so long.

I slowly strech my leg and hissed in pain. My legs were feeling the same as my backside. I used the fountain side to help me up. With great difficulty, I eventually stood up and hunched over to dust my topside down.

"Enjoying the sensation?" A loude sound boomed behind me giving my a terrible fright making my jump. As doing so, I fell on to the side of the fountain but my hands failed to preventing my fall and my body carried on, tipping its way back, all the way, until my back made contact with the fresh, cold water.

The water submerged me, making my once warm clothes, soaking.
