As soon as Sir. Kay's head fell to the floor, his body and his severed head disappeared along with any blood as well.

"Well done, Your Highness! You pass." Sir. Kay voices happily as he appears a few meters away, perfectly healthy and without l single blemish. "Although the parameters of the test were to beat me in pure swordsmanship, which technically you did not accomplish, I'm willing to make an exception in this case. Once again, well done."

Hearing he passed the final test for his last Lord ring, Tom let out a relieved sigh as he tosses his bloody sword to the side and drops to the floor, relieving his tired muscles.

"Thanks, but can you give me back my powers? I'm feeling exhausted for the first time since I got my power-ups and it's well... exhausting." Tom asks, not wanting to break the limitations placed on him without at least asking first.

"Yes, my apologies, Your Highness." Sir. Kay says and Tom suddenly feels all of his powers return.

His healing factor kicks in almost immediately and within second the fatigue he felt from the challenging duel he just went through completely disappeared.

Standing to his feet with renewed vigor, Tom looks to Sir. Kay with a thankful smile on his face.

"Thank you for making an exception for me. I could tell that I wouldn't be able to beat you in a normal duel, so I had to try something different in order to secure the victory." Tom says, knowing that Sir. Kay could have easily failed him.

"You're very welcome, Your Highness." Sir. Kay says as that reminiscent smile graces his lips once more. "I promised to tell you why I was chosen to do this job, didn't I?"

"Yeah, If you wouldn't mind telling me, that is." Tom nods as walks closer to Sir. Kay.

"Of course, I wouldn't mind. You passed after all." He says with a nonchalant wave of his hand. "I was a knight that swore my sword to King Arthur, as you've probably already guessed. Although, I wasn't just any old knight. I was the knight that trained young Arthur as my squire. I taught that boy everything I knew."

"Wow, why were you chosen for this." Tom asks, gesturing to the area around them.

"I wasn't chosen for anything. I volunteered myself willingly. This test was supposed to be given by a magical imprint of someone, testing the future generations of the Pendragon family, but Merlin brought up the fallibility in that. One being how the imprint would be made of magic, making it susceptible to magical changes, among other possible problems as well." Sir. Kay explains.

"So you signed yourself up to have your soul forever attached to the ring? Does it get lonely in here?" Tom asks, knowing from his experience with Lady Death that isolation is horrible torture.

"No, Merlin thought of that beforehand." Sir. Kay shakes his head. "When I'm not giving a test, which just so happens to be the large majority of my time, I'm sleeping and dreaming."

"Dreaming?" Tom questions with a raised eyebrow.

"Many people that followed God's teachings believed that when you die, you go to either heaven or hell. I don't know if this is still followed today or not..."

"Yes, it is." Tom cuts him off to clarify.

"It's good some things haven't changed. Lord Merlin didn't believe in that though. He thought that when you die it's just lights out. Your time is done and there's nothing else, but I was and am a firm believer in heaven. Although he didn't share in my belief, Lord Merlin thought to give me a sort of compensation for missing out, so to speak. When I'm asleep in this ring, I dream of many wondrous and beautiful things. Sometimes I know I'm dreaming and sometimes I don't. It's truly a fun experience to go through and definitely keeps any sort of boredom away." Sir. Kay explains.

"I see..." Tom replies and goes into silent thought for a moment. "Would you like to be relieved of your duty?"

Hearing Toms question, Sir. Kay looked at him for a brief moment and shook his head.

"No, in a few hundred years you will die, and I will have to do my duty again. Even your inheriting child will have to pass my test if he wants to wear the Pendragon Lord ring." Sir. Kay declines, not knowing that Tom is immortal.

"I'm afraid that I won't be dying anytime soon." Tom says with a small laugh.

"Don't be too full of yourself, Your Highness. Wizards may have an extended lifespan, but death catches up to us all." Sir. Kay reprimanded Tom, which only made him chuckle a bit harder.

Seeing Tom laugh after hearing his words, Sir. Kay crossed his arms and looked at Tom like a parent ready to scold their child.

When Tom saw him like that, he stopped laughing and started explaining the fact that he is immortal. The only time he will ever die is if and when Death herself passes away, which doesn't sound even remotely possible, but who knows what could happen?

Finding out the truth, Sir. Kay seriously thinks over his options. Either stay in the ring regardless of the extremely minuscule possibility of ever testing someone again, or take Tom's offer and ascend into heaven. That is if heaven is even real, which Tom doesn't fully know as he hasn't asked Lady Death about it.

"Will you ever pass this ring to one of your future children, or do you plan to forever be Lord Pendragon?" Sir. Kay asked.

Seeing where this is going, Tom thinks over his answer. He doesn't really know what he plans to do when it comes to his children inheriting his titles, but he does know what would happen for each answer Sir. Kay is waiting to hear.

If he says yes, he wants to pass the ring to his children, Sir. Kay will stay in order to test them and fulfill his eternal duty.

On the other hand, if he says no, he won't be passing the ring to any of his children, Sir. Kay will most likely choose to be unbound from the ring.

Tom's answer depends on which of the two outcomes he would prefer, so is having a soul attached to his Lord ring something Tom wants?

"No, I won't be passing the ring down to any of my children. I don't want to start fights over succession."
