CHAPTER THREE

The car ride home was silent and that made me anxious.

When we got into the house, mom glared at me.

"Violet, go to your room." She said to my little sister.

"Vee, you stay."

The maid took Violet to her room.

I gulped.

"You wretched child, you dare to embarrass me! After all the things I have done for you! What do you have to say for yourself!" She shouted.

"Mother, I-I'm s-sorry."

"YOU'RE SORRY, SORRY ISN'T GOING TO CHANGE THE FACT THAT YOU ARE USELESS!" she screamed.

Tears rolled down my face.

"You are exactly like your useless father! The biggest mistake I had ever made was marrying your father! And now you want to be a deadbeat like him? After all I have done for you!"

She started throwing stuff at me.

She threw her favourite China, the maid will clean that up later.

"Stupid child, you couldn't even behave for just a few hours, you just had to do something that tarnished my image!" She yelled as she pulled my hair.

"Mother I'm sorry!" I sniffed.

"Don't call me your mother!" She said pushing me to the ground.

The broken China cut through my right palm, there was blood everywhere.

Mother took me to the hospital to get stitches.

The cut was deep so I had to get a tetanus shot.

Luckily I was left handed so I could still go to school.

Mother told everyone in school that I had cut myself by accident while trying to clean up the china I broke.

Of course I had to go along with her lie because I didn't have a say.

*a week later...

"Vee!"

"Axel! You came to visit, your mom should have inform ___" before mother could finish her sentence, Axel ran up to me.

"Vee! I heard you hurt your hand." He said sniffing.

"How did you know?" I asked.

"Mom told us." Axel replied. "Also someone is here to see you."

I look at the direction of the door and saw Ashton standing there, someone was behind him.

He moved aside.

Standing behind him was the girl who pushed me into the pool.

"W-what is she doing here?" I asked shivering.

The events of that night came flooding back.

"Amber just came here to apologise." Ashton said.

Amber.

So that was her name.

Although her eyes looked like tear filled Ambers, her name surely didn't match her personality.

She looked scared.

Quite different from the way she was at the pool party.

"I,I am sorry for pushing you into the pool, I hope you can forgive me." She said.

She immediately got on her knees with tear filled eyes,begging me to forgive her.

I didn't know how to respond because I was startled.

"N,no I forgive you."

I said bringing her back to her feet.

"Thank you!"

She said hugging me.

"This isn't over yet!"

She whispered into my ear.

My eyes widened.

She was definitely a snake.

"Okay, now that has been settled, it is time for us to leave, Ms. Keith we apologise for intruding your house." Ashton said.

"Ohhh it's nothing, can you stay for dinner?"

Mother asked.

"I'm afraid not. Well it's time to get going, bye Velvet." He replied.

"Okay, bye." I replied.

Immediate after they left, mother rushed up to me.

"You did a good job, now all you have to do is to become friends with that Amber girl and wrap the Jones brothers around your finger." She said with a malicious grin.

The mother I once knew was gone, a shell of her former self remained blinded by clout.

I felt disappointed.
