CHAPTER 2

The first thing I became aware of was the pain. I could hear someone. Someone was here with me. Then it all came back, the loss of my pack, my mate, my pup, the cell, the hospital, my throat, the Alpha. I cautiously began to open my eyes blinking back the light. I tried to sit up only to find myself restrained to the bed. A voice broke my thoughts. "We had to make sure you didn't hurt yourself again." My head immediately sought out the speaker only to land on the unknown Alpha.

"Who are you and what do you want from me?"

"You were found shot on my territory so I will ask the questions. Who are you and what pack do you come from?"

"It doesn't matter anymore. My pack is gone," I answered truthfully.

"Shit. Alec, tell my father there's been another one."

      "Another one what?"

"Your pack isn't the first to have been wiped out and certainly isn't the last. This is however the first time someone has gotten out alive."

"Lucky me," I said, my voice laced with sarcasm.

"That still doesn't tell me who you are."

"Dhiren, Alpha female of the Lightmore pack, or I used to be."

      "Dhiren.....You know my father. Niklaus."

"Conner...Conner Clain," I asked in disbelief.

"Damn, you remember me. I'm sorry we have to meet again under these circumstances. It's been what, ten years?"

I shrugged. "Pretty close I guess."

"Wait, that means, shit, I'm so sorry, Ren."

      "Ya, me to."

"We are going to find who did this and make them pay." His face was all anger and rage, his eyes swirled amber as his fangs began to appear. He seemed to get himself together and calm down before asking more questions. I told him all I knew, leaving out the personal details of the friends and family I saw murdered. I couldn't dwell on it. He needed all the information I could give him pertaining to the attack.

It wasn't too much longer that he doctor came in and said I could be discharged and while filling out the paperwork, Niklaus, the Alpha Male of the Blood moon pack came in the room. His eyes were creased with worry and remorse for those I had lost and relief at my survival. "Your parents were good people and I would trade places with them if I could. I regrettably hadn't spoken to them in years. Not since your older sister found her mate. The last I heard of them, your older sister had just welcomed her first pup, Sarah if I'm not mistaken." Tears began to fill my eyes at the mention of the family and the young I had watched be slaughtered in front of me.

"Come, lets get you out of here and someplace warmer and more homely." "With better food," Conner added. I couldn't help but give him a half hearted smile. We walked in silence to the reception desk where Niklaus signed the paperwork for my release. The nurse smiled at her alpha and thanked him. We headed to the elevators and made our way to the alpha's car. I was a sleek black lincoln suburban. As an alpha, we were escorted by two more similar vehicles with us in the middle. In the car with us was a driver, a guard up front, and a guard in back.
