Chapter 24

After showers and packing, they made their way to the airport. They grabbed a couple of bagels from the airport baked good stand and boarded the plane. There wasn't a lot of time for conversation. Once they settled, Pearl had to ask David what was nagging at her. And she knew he had questions too. She had told him she was in love with him. She didn't know if she just regretted saying it or if she was feeling guilty because it wasn't entirely the truth. She was a little drunk. Caught up in the moment. And Gatsby. But maybe she did really feel that way. She loved him. She was sure of that after this week. But in love with him. That was something she was always afraid of.

"You didn't ask me." Pearl said. "You didn't ask me if I was on birth control. You didn't hesitate or get a condom. Why? Wouldn't that worry you?" She asked David. He looked at her with a smile. "First of all, you told me you'd only been with two people. I've only been with two people. The likely hood of us having anything is slim, although you were with an actor. And the birth control thing didn't and doesn't matter to me. It would be a dream come true to father your child. You didn't tell me not to cum inside of you. So nothing was stopping me. You could tell me right now that you're not on birth control and unless you tell me you wouldn't want me to, I would do it again. Does that answer your questions?"

"Yes" Pearl said In disbelief. Her ex husband pulled out everytime they had sex. It was foreign to her. These men wanting that with her. "Is there anything you'd like to ask me?" She asked as the plane started to take off. "No. I'm perfectly content right now. Let me take a rain check on that, ok?" His answer made her nervous. Why? She didn't know. She fell asleep again and woke up to him tapping her shoulder and telling her they were landing. They made their way to the company car waiting for them at the airport. The ride was quiet back. They got to the office parking garage and Pearl told David she had to go. It was already noon and she had to meet Dylan at 2. "Yes of course. Thank you again, for going on this trip, doing such an amazing job. For being my friend and for the amazing night last night. I'll never forget it." David said as he walked away, headed inside their office building. What? Ok she had been worried about being the distant one but that little speech was weird. Really weird. She decided not to over think it and needed home. She dropped her luggage on the living room floor. She was seriously exhausted. What a trip. She forgot she still had her phone on airplane mode. She had 3 texts. One was John. "Hope you made it home safe! Can't wait to jam tonight!" The other was Dylan. "Still on for 2?"

And the third from a number she didn't recognize at first. "I'm bringing my bluebird to your town next Thursday through the weekend. I'll hope you'll be wanting to let yours out to sing with mine."

Shit.
