CHAPTER 70: No Matter When You Are Born

"Dare speak another word while I am not yet done with her and I don't mind leaving your mouth permanently open."

Her eyes and aura-

No.

Her whole being was shouting of coldness, of anger.

"Tell me Esther, why are these in your hands? Why are you researching about this?"

Saphira raised the papers and when Esther saw the one in front, her eyes went wide.

"Give that to me!!!" she shouted reaching out.

But Saphira just moved aside and she ended up falling on the ground.

"I am asking you a question, why are you trying to research on this?"

Drake and Willow could see Saphira's hands were trembling because of anger.

After being together for a few months now, this is the very first time they are seeing her this angry.

Whatever it is that Esther was researching, caused her patience to snap.

"Tha- Those are not mine," Esther spoke.

Saphira laughed.

*PAK*

Esther fell to the ground when Saphira used the papers in her hands to slap her hard enough to make a tooth fly away from her mouth.

"What are you doing?!?! I told you those are not mine."

*PAK*

Esther screamed as she was once again slapped.

"Sa-"

Willow wanted to stop her but Drake raised his arm to stop her.

He remembered the talk yesterday and could somehow tell that the papers on Saphira's hand were about that.

"You dare deny when your handwriting is all over this paper."

*PAK*

Esther screamed again and looked around.

Some were taking pity of her but no one could step forward.

Saphira was too strong and the pressure was stopping all of them from approaching.

She could only shake her head.

Saphira started laughing, "Well then since you are famous for your literacy why don't we let all this people see for themselves what you have written."

Without waiting she threw all those papers in the air allowing them to flutter down to the knights that are currently present.

Esther's hand writing was known by the whole Empire.

Because of its unique beauty.

"NOOO!! They are not mine," she shouted as she scrambled on her feet trying to snatch the papers falling down.

*PAK*

This time Saphira moved and slapped her in the face causing her to fly a few feet away.

The knights were shock nevertheless their attention was already on the papers that had fallen.

"Th- this is..."

They couldn't believe what they are seeing.

"Passing of a mythological beast," one uttered.

And those who didn't get a paper were dumbfounded.

"It must not be her handwriting, that's impossible, she was so kind," another spoke.

But those who are already holding the papers were already convinced that it was hers.

Because it was so unique no one could really copy it.

"NOOO!!!" Esther shouted.

But seeing as the people supporting her moments ago are now looking at her with horror, she looked at Willow instead.

"THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT. YOU GET ALL THE ATTENTION JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE THE HOLDER OF AZURE DRAGON!!!"

She was shouting like a crazy person, the complete contrast of what the people are used to seeing.

Willow chose not to speak, not to even look at Esther.

"THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MINE. IF YOU WEREN'T BORN BEFORE ME, AZURE DRAGON SHOULD HAVE BEEN MINE. DRAKE'S ATTENTION SHOULD HAVE BEEN MINE."

Willow gritted her teeth, Drake casted a deadly glare towards Esther.

She instantly covered her face, "No don't look at me like that. You only look at me like that because I don't have Azure Dragon."

The knights were all in confusion.

Everything was too overwhelming.

Instead her wails were stopped when Saphira laughed once again.

"Should have been yours? No matter when you are born, Azure Dragon will never be yours," she said.

Her words confused Willow and Drake the most.

If Willow was not born, it is not too far that Esther would be the host.

"What are you talking about? Of course it will be mine!!!"

Saphira shook her head, "No, never because not even an ounce of Virescent family runs in your blood."

It was as if a loud explosion came to where they all stood.

"STOP SAYING NONSENSE!!!" Esther shouted back.

Saphira walked over and knelt in front of her, she held her chin tight making her shout in pain.

"Nonsense? Oh no its not nonsense, go on and ask your grandfather. Why that is the case."

"SHUT UP!!! THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!!! IF YOU DIDN'T APPEAR AND SAVED HER I WOULD HAVE ALREADY FINISHED THE CEREMONY!! I WOULD HAVE ALREADY GOTTEN AZURE-"

"Burn."

Esther's words were replaced with shrieks when Saphira spoke that word.

Fire engulfed her.

"That ceremony?" Saphira stood up and all those around her felt shivers run down their spines.

Her anger had spiked up.

Much more than a while ago.

The shrieks stopped momentarily when the fire diminished.

But Esther was not burned, she was still well dressed and her skin was still as white as before.

"Burn," Saphira repeated and Esther once again shouted agonizingly.

"You have no right to speak of that ceremony."

And the cycle continued, the fire would diminish and Saphira would speak the word burn and Esther would once again be enveloped with fire.

Some knights started stepping back in fear.

"No one has the right to speak of that ceremony."

Saphira was breathing heavily.

"Saphira?" Willow called but Saphira was so focused on Esther that she couldn't reach to her.

"Burn."

"Burn."

"Someone like you, who takes it so lightly."

Her breathing turned even heavier.

"Burn. Burn. Burn. Burn."

Even Drake subconsciously tried to reach out.

Esther shrieked and shrieked.

Passing out due to pain but waking up once again because of pain.

It was a never ending cycle of torture.

The knights feared for themselves as they watched her burn at the same time not burn Esther.

"Burn. Burn. Burn. Burn. Burn. Burn. Burn. Burn. Burn. Burn. Burn. Burn. Burn. Burn. Burn. Burn. Bu-"

Her words stopped when a hand was placed over her eyes.

"It's enough now."
