Chapter 26

Leaning forward as if he wanted to kiss the ground in front of him, the energy within his body was now solely in his legs as he pounced forward once his body stopped arching forward just several inches above the ground. To his opponent's surprise, in only a breath of time, Timothy was now in front of him with his fist aimed at his head.

Unable to react in time, his opponent received the fist on his face and was finally pushed back for the first time during this spar. Being an entire three levels above him in cultivation, Timothy's opponent felt that he should have had the upper hand in both cultivation and combat experience, so something was now wrong.

Thinking about it, his opponent now understood a little more about the technique that Timothy had used to land a critical hit on him. By using the additional momentum leaning down and putting most of his energy into his legs, Timothy was able to land in front of him almost like a lightning strike locating its target.

The techniques that Master Sei passed down to Timothy were indeed very low leveled techniques that almost any cultivator could begin to learn, but although low leveled, they were still considered to be well above average techniques. As a mercenary, his opponent did not have access to many techniques, and those he did have access to, were not only low leveled but not very effective.

This spar began to prove to Timothy that high leveled techniques did play a role in combat and could help a cultivator go toe to toe with another much higher leveled including opponents that had more combat experience. Finally proving this to be the case, Timothy felt as if he owed his master even more. However, now he needed to continue this spar to see just how far he could take this new technique of his.

Within only a breath of time, Timothy was once more right in front of his opponent and threw another fist towards him. His opponent was not ready to receive this additional attack and could only take it head on. As a single minute passed by, Timothy was continuing to slowly push his opponent back until he had finally had enough!

Using a powerful surge of energy, Timothy's opponent was finally able to prevent his fists from causing any damage to his body as the two's eyes locked. Out of the handful of techniques Master Sei gave to him, Timothy only started to learn the two he showcased. And now that his opponent was able to read his movements for both, it was now only a matter of time until Timothy lost the spar.

This was a harsh reality, but it was good that Timothy could learn this lesson while only sparring with someone who was now considered close and trustworthy. In the outside world, he would have endless battles with opponents and if his opponents were able to find a way to get an upper hand, it could be the difference between life and death.

Trying to block his opponent's attacks, Timothy felt quite a bit of pressure as he continued circulating the energy within his body to take less punishment. Fortunately, this was enough for Timothy to finally advance to Elementary level three due to the sheer amount of punishment his body was taking. Once he advanced, he let his entire guard down while his opponent backed up to give him room to breath and channel the newly acquired energy.

"Very good young master, it seems that you were lacking a proper opponent to find an opportunity to breakthrough. You are now only two levels below me in your cultivation, but since you are a dual cultivator, your future will be much better compared to mine. I have no idea where you learned those two techniques earlier, but they were enough to give me quite a bit of trouble." the guard told Timothy in a way that was not very praise-like, but at the least, very respectful.

"In the future, as long as you are willing to follow me and be the protector of my family, I would be willing to pass down some high leveled techniques that fit your fighting style. It may take some time since it seems as if your style is based around receiving attacks and looking for an opening to strike compared to my style of trying to overwhelm an opponent." Timothy replied but in a very respectful tone as well.

"Then in the future when my contract expires, I hope that you remember these words of yours so that you could give me some techniques to practice if I were to stay with your family. It is not uncommon for mercenaries like myself to receive such incentives which is how I was able to learn a small handful of average level techniques throughout my life thus far." the guard told Timothy as they both sat down to rest for a bit.

"I can tell you from living in this region my entire life, at the pace you are going even as young as you are right now, you should be able to find an above average school to take you as a student within Mist City. However, you will need to work very hard because the higher up the school is, the rougher the competition is. You may be able to be a top student at a very low ranking school, but in an above average school, you would be at the bottom." the guard told Timothy as he took out a bottle of water to refresh himself.

"I will look at all of the available offers and choose once I feel that I have found a school." Timothy replied with quite a bit of overconfidence as if he felt that he was worthy to be sought after.
