"You're asking quite a bit of me, captain. One of the 5 noble families? That's beyond my pay grade. Shouldn't another captain be doing this? I'm just a 3rd seat."
"You've proven yourself to me and that's all the Yama-Ji needed to give you this task. Central 46's exact order was to find the best person to teach the heiress of the Shihōin family. Nothing was said about rank or status. Plus you'll have a fun time, I'll have to find someone else to do my paperwork."
"Why don't you use your lieutenant for their actual job instead of letting them laze around all day," I complained.
"You already know that my hands are tied on that. Anyways the Shihōin heiress will be quite the handful I've met her before. Don't do anything that would get me in trouble, in other words, be smart." He said while taking a sip of what was probably alcohol.
I stood up off my chair and got ready to get to my destined location
"If this is what I'm required to do then I shall make sure that it is done. If yourself and the Head captain have faith in me to complete this task then I shall live up to your expectations."
Before I walked out the door I had a simple question
"I'm getting a bonus for this right?"
--------------------------
The 5 noble houses were an interesting group, to say the least. They didn't directly rule but they were clearly the true rules or the soul society. They probably had direct rule over the central 46 and that in turn meant the Gotei 13. It was an interesting power Dichotomy between the 3.
I, as a soldier, could not ever interfere with anything that the Noble families. The noble family were usually the elites of society and had the best chances of becoming an elite Shinigami.
Now, this request struck me as odd. Why would one of the 5 great noble families need a Shinigami as a tutor for their children? The fact that it was the Shihōin family made it even weirder. The captain of the 2nd Division who I was familiar with was quite a nice man once you speak to him. Perhaps he didn't go home much and left responsibilities to the caretakers of the home.
While I was not one to discuss the circumstances, I was definitely curious. I was more interested in the bonus I was getting on top of my usual salary.
Though that was just natural greed.
I picked up the pace and made my way to the Shihōin mansion which was located in the east of the soul society.
It didn't take long to get there using a shunpo so I found my self at the gates of the mansion which was just absolutely huge.
I couldn't comprehend how a few people could live in a place so big. I was contempt with a small room with a kitchen and a living area so something like this was out of this world.
It was a beautiful place that had the air of superiority around it. It was just a sight to behold.
I dusted my self and walked to the front gate where a guard was waiting with a spear.
"Halt! State your name and reason for the visit."
"3rd seat of the 8th division, Yasushi. Here on the orders decreed by the Central 46 and the Head captain of the Gotei 13." I stated.
"Yasushi? Come this way."
He opened the gate and led me inside the mansion where I was met by the Matriarch of the family.
She was quite the sight compared to the people I normally see. She was wearing a yellow robe that had white lapels which draped over her back. Her skin was smooth and had a dark complexity which only brought out the bright lilac eyes which she had.
I bowed instantly to show my respect.
"Thank you for having me here," I said.
"Raise your head Yasushi. You'll be here for the next few years so make yourself at home." Came the soft voice.
I raised my head and regained eye contact with the motherly figure.
She signalled to me to begin following her. I walked closely behind her but kept my distance.
While we were walking she began to talk
"I'm sure you know your Job. The combined forces of the Gotei 13 thought you were the person for this job. I expect the absolute best from you and nothing else."
"I only serve to deliver. If it's a task then I'll see it all the way through. I have my duties, that is what I live for."
"That is comforting to hear. They might be a bit tough but you'll be able to reign them in."
She led me to a room which took around 7 minutes of walking to get to. They? I thought it was only one person. They kept a bit of information from me which only piqued my interest even more.
"I'll leave you here."
She turned around and went back to wherever she was staying before.
Once she was out of sight I finally let go of the stature that I was holding. I hunched my back to give myself a room to breathe.
I walked towards the door of the room which was quite large and twisted the handle and opened it.
There were 3 kids in the room all differing in sizes. It was easy to identify the Shihoin heiress. She looked much like her mother except for her purple hair and bright gold eyes.
I slightly bowed and introduced my self.
"Hello, I'm Yasushi the 3rd seat of the-"
Before I could finish my usual introduction a kitchen knife was thrown at my head. It was an unusual weapon choice but somewhat effective.
I easily caught the knife before it reached my head. It was a knife used to cut meat however it was much much sharper than a regular one. It was clearly designed to pierce.
"Kisuke who's this stiff-looking idiot?" The heiress asked the blonde-haired boy next to her.
'Stiff looking idiot? That's a bit blunt'
The blonde-haired child, who I know knew as Kisuke, put his hand on his face in a thinking pose.
"If he's Yasushi and a 3rd seat then he can only be one person. He's the kido prodigy of the 8th division."
Is that what people call me?
"I've been given very specific orders, perhaps specific enough to raise suspicion. But I' won't question anything. I've been told to be a tutor until you enrol into the academy. For the next few years, I'll have to drill into you the 4 basics techniques which make a shinigami with the added lessons of philosophy and laws. My teaching will be based on 1 thing. Ruthlessness. To be a Shinigami you have to be able to make decisions that might end up causing someone to die if you can't do that you won't survive as a Shinigami. That is all."
Those were the teachings that were passed on to me by my teacher who I haven't seen in years. But it was the correct thing. I myself have made decisions which costed someone else their lives. Did I regret it? No.
While Kisuke seemed to take in the words the heiress didn't seem to think it over. The third child was oddly silent but I chalked that up to shyness.
"It doesn't matter what you teach me. All that matters is that you make me the best. I'm gonna be the one who's gonna be the head of this family. You're gonna remember the name, Yoruichi Shihoin!" She exclaimed.
Time would tell. Would I remember Yoruichi Shihoin or would she become another Elite with big dreams?
Time would tell.
