Get out

The tension in this very luxurious car was quite thick. I had given him the directions to my home to which he only nodded and I noticed that he was holding the steering wheel really tightly. What was this attitude about? Had I known earlier that it was his car and not Tate's I would have never agreed to this but I had no option in the end. I still couldn't process this news about them being step siblings. Obviously, a few months back I had heard some students gossiping about Tate's mother remarrying to some man but that's all. I didn't know earlier that man would be Kabeer's father. I smiled inwardly because where did that love go ? Don't get me wrong, I'm not smiling because I'm happy they got divorced. It is just that love disgusted me to such a great extent and I could still remember how Kabeer's father used to look so lovingly at his wife and how perfect their little family was.

What I think is that love is just infatuation wrapped in a box that becomes rusty as time passes by. The initial spark diminishes with time until there are only misunderstandings and bitterness in the end. So good for both of them I guess? Now they could do something better with their lives although I did feel bad for Kabeer who must've bore the brunt of all their fights.

"Khansa, do you like songs?" Tate's sweet voice brought me back from my thoughts and I found her looking back at me with an expectant smile. I just shook my head and she made a horrified expression. I looked at Kabeer and he looked the least interested in our conversation about songs.

What? Call me old soul because songs weren't really my thing although sometimes I did break this rule when the songs were spiritual or they had a good feel to them but other than that every song grated on my nerves.

"That's so uncool, Khansa" Tate pouted before blasting the car with a song which had really awful lyrics. I didn't reply and went back to using my mobile phone.

It was after thirty five minutes that we entered my neighborhood and the stark difference was pretty noticeable. The houses were medium sized and all of them were built in a similar manner. I could feel many people looking at the car because obviously it wasn't always the case that a car this luxurious entered in this neighborhood. I mean the most expensive car I noticed here was an SUV otherwise everyone had pretty small cars with rusty paintings.

Kabeer stopped the car in an abrupt manner and gritted out, "Get out, Khansa" I looked outside and noticed we were still 5 minutes away from my house.

I didn't have it in me to argue so I didn't say a word and grabbed my backpack.

"Didn't she just tell you where her house is?" Tate's argumentative voice surprised me. Why was she standing up for me? We didn't even know each other really well.

Kabeer acted like he didn't hear her and very smoothly looked back, "You're still here?" He could take all this pride and arrogance to hell because little did he know I couldn't care less about how he talked to me. I just didn't have the strength to talk to him about his petty behaviour so I rolled my eyes and I was about to get out when Tate shouted, "What is your problem Kabeer? You're doing this because she's my clasmate, right?" It was a lot to take in because suddenly the playful tate turned into a serious version of herself. She continued, "Take out your anger on your father instead of me, you understand? Now I am your sister so you better develop a sense of courtesy with people who are associated with me or next time I'll show you your place" she finished in a menacing yet cool voice.

What on earth was happening? I just stared at these two step siblings who were in this tense situation just because of their parents.

Kabeer looked at her mockingly, " What are you? A spokesperson?" he then very delicately took out a cigarette from his dashboard before lighting it up and taking a puff from it. I could see what a horrible doctor he was going to become, good luck to his future patients.

Tate was about to answer when he looked at her and said in a low yet raspy voice, "You too get out"

Tate just whispered in a shocking voice as if she couldn't believe him, "What?" Why were they dragging me in their sibling fight? I mean, go home and figure it out idiots.
