Magic Circles and Mana Circuits

'After mulling it over for a while, there isn't much I can figure out. Maybe it just has to do with the system using words I know from Earth to name things? Oh well, maybe I'll figure it out in the future, it isn't like it's dangerous to be ignorant on the matter right now.' After Roy finished processing, he stood up and took all the keratin related parts of the deer.

"Guess I'll make a proper backpack for myself, since the one I'm using is made with cordage still." Roy then took some time to use the hide and make a decently sized backpack.

His new pack was almost twice as big compared to his old one, allowing for much more carrying space. It also had a pouch to hold Inbellis' mobile home and another for his water container.

Inside the pack, he made dividers and pouches to keep organised. Seeing his creation, Roy had a big smile plastered on his face.

"Now! What to do with these antlers... It would be cumbersome to carry them as is..." Looking at the length and the number of antler branches, Roy was designing a blueprint.

"Buhihi..."

Watching Roy from the side, Solus and Terren continued butchering the deer. 'He's gonna be like that for a while so I'll just ignore him.' Solus couldn't talk to Terren, because neither of them understood the other's language well enough.

Solus could pick up some of the words, but most of them still sounded gibberish to her, while Terren was even worse off.

'I need to finish English fast so I can learn Koboldese easier! Makes me jealous of Roy's... eidetic? memory. He may call me a genius, but he's way smarter than me... I need to work way harder to keep up with him!' As Solus continued to slice away at the deer carcass, she also began to add her mana to her Mana Core.

[Apprentice Dissection has reached the necessary requirements and has been acquired]

[Received Apprentice Dissection Lv. 1]

"Yes!" Solus happily pumped her fist seeing the notification in her vision. She decided that now was a good time to stop, so that Terren could get the skill too.

Giving her a thumbs up, Solus walked off to pick up some rocks, as Terren looked at her with a dark face.

"Running off and leaving me with all the work, huh?!" Terren, upset that she was left to do the rest on her own, was about to keep complaining, when Roy spoke up.

"She got the skill, so she left the rest for you. She just wanted you to be able to get it sooner. Looks to me like she's going to get rocks for a fire." Hearing the explanation, Terren was slightly embarrassed about her fit, so she immediately went back to work on the carcass.

"Buhihi!" Roy laughed, before going back to his work as well.

...

A few minutes later, Solus came back with a backpack full of rocks.

*Hup!*

Solus took the bag off and dumped its contents on the ground, she then began making a fire pit.

'There we go! Now I just need to start the fire!' Solus looked around to find some suitable sticks and then wrapped her bow string around one of them. After that she began the spinning process to make the hot embers.

...

Half an hour later, Solus carefully moved the lit ember into the kindling. 'Success! Time to cook some meat!'

After the group ate their food, Roy turned back to where he was working and handed each of them two antler spears.

Looking at the stats of his work and the reactions of the two receiving his gifts, made Roy smile.

[Tri-Knife Antler Spear]

Notes:

Made by Roy Palmer

A spear made from the antlers of an Irish Elk. The craftsmanship is superb, bringing out the potential of the material. The tip of the spear is made with the cruel design of a tri knife, while it is also decorated with ornamental symbols on the shaft.

High Quality

Durability [80/80]

'Came out great, and I even managed to level up [Keratin Control]!' Roy was proud of the outcome of his labor.

"Whoa, th-ese thin-gs look so cool!" Solus exclaimed, with a similar statement coming from Terren soon after.

"Thanks! I worked pretty hard on the design, and wanted it to be as deadly as possible. I know bleeding can be somewhat alleviated by a tier one, but this will still be deadly if used right. I had just enough material for 6 of them, so we each have two. There was a bit left over, but I just threw it in my bag for later." As Roy continued to talk about his new weapons, the other two ignored him and continued to stare at the intricate designs carved into the sides.

"So pretty..." Terren said under her breath as she snapped back to reality and put the spears to the side.

"Thanks Roy, but I still have to carve some more, and I don't have the skill yet, so I'm going to get back to work."

"Okay, no problem. Let me know if you need help with anything. I'm going to make some containers for the meat. We can't bring it all, but I don't want to waste what we could bring, either." Roy then began to make containers as the other two also got back to their training.

...

As Roy was making containers, he could also do other things. Since it was a copy and paste design, it didn't require much brain power.

'I really want to use magic... Well, I guess I already am, but I want to use spells and stuff! System, do I need the [Apprentice Magician] job in order to start magic, or can I begin now?

{Info}

Magic

Taking the [Apprentice Magician] job will simply make learning and using magic easier. You can begin magic practice as soon as you reach tier 1.

It is advised to base your magic on your affinities, but is not necessary

To begin using magic, imagination is key, but you also need to learn the corresponding magic circles to guide your mana through.

One cannot work without the other. A magic circle without the proper image in your mind, could go haywire from lack of control, while a clear imagination would be useless without something to convert the mana.

Once a magic circle is completed, it can be branded on the Mana Heart. Allowing to user to cast the spell easier, though there is a limited space. Most wizards and witches only brand spells they commonly use or that could save their lives in dire situations.

'So, how do I learn these magic circles? I'm kinda in the middle of nowhere right now...' Roy was distraught after hearing this, as he was really hoping it was as simple as imagining what he wanted.

Magic Circles

Magic circles can be created by anyone with the knowledge and skill to do it, but it is also incredibly dangerous to test them without proper safety procedures.

Magic circles are made of interconnecting runes, called a mana circuit. The more complicated a spell the more mana circuits are needed.

'Can I see these runes?' Roy asked impatiently, hoping what he thought would happen, wouldn't.

'Damn... Guess I'll have to wait until I can find someone to teach me, or I find a library.' Roy was a bit downcast. He knew he would learn it one day, but he really wanted to try it out sooner rather than later.
