Path of the Cambion: Kurou's Rising, Chapter 12

Edakura's POV

I looked at the boy that had passed out before me, narrowing my eyes at him slightly. My eyes drifted upwards towards Vizas who was smirking down at the boy, though it didn't last for long. One smack with my staff sent her down with my glaring at her. "What do you think you were doing? Are you trying to get us caught?" I asked her angrily, azure blue flames flaring up around me. It was something that occurred whenever I became angry, and the darker they were usually meant the angrier I was.

"There's no way he can escape now. Just let me end him now," Vizas replied to me, chuckling as she stepped on the dazed boy's head. "If only you hadn't seen her, then maybe you could've lived." she whispered, mimicking sadism in her voice, but I could tell it was a hollow threat, the boy gave what looked like a scowl as he attempted to look back up, barely conscious. She smirked at him, then looked at me, as if waiting for the orders to be allowed to slaughter the green haired boy. "Hmph, he's a tough one. He reminds me of someone from Hell," she whispered, chuckling to herself.

"You had a shot and you missed, better luck in the next life." I said as I glared at her, making her back off, the energy spears she was holding in her hands dispersing. She was smart to know when not to mess around with me. "You used up your magic supply burning a forest and attacking a child, yet you still did not complete the task I sent you to do," I hissed, dropping a pile of bodies onto the ground when I released my gravity magic. They were all cambion hunters that I had killed since Vizas forgot and went on with her fun. I knew they were hunting me, so I sent out Vizas. Yet it seemed that was my mistake.

"Alright. Alright. So what do you plan on doing with him?" Vizas asked me, looking down at the green haired boy. I closed my eyes, thinking about the situation. My flames danced around me, burning the pile of bodies to make sure that none were alive and to get rid of the evidence. "Sometimes I find that you can be the cruelest, even more than me," Vizas commented, making me open my eyes to see that she was smirking at the bonfire of bodies, though it wasn't about just getting rid of evidence, it was about respect as well, better to be cremated to have rotting bodies, and I felt somewhat sorry for having to kill them all.

"Nobody asked you. Grab the boy and take him with us," I said, turning around, expecting Vizas to comply with my orders. She didn't have much of a choice anyways. She wouldn't exist without me, but I also had to admit that I wouldn't exist without her. "You can tell, can you not?" I asked her, looking back at my partner to see her picking up the boy in bridal style. "This boy is more than a simple cambion, just like me. Surely you have some sort of information as the mistress of Satan himself."

"Your burns can't hurt a Moon Flame demon," Vizas answered me, smirking before looking down at the boy in her arms. "I can't say for certain, but that eyepatch looks like Kuro's craft," she explained, flying along beside me as we headed into the forest. "In fact, this boy is exactly like Kuro, only a different shade of colour. I can't be certain, but judging by his powers and what I saw… This boy might be the spawn of Kuro himself."

"Then getting rid of him will pose to be trouble for us," I told her, closing my eyes, walking along till I heard a small thump noise. Opening my eyes, I saw the cave that I had been staying and hiding out in for the past few days. It was easier to get rid of the hunters that were chasing me before I moved on with my travels. "Bring him inside then disappear. Your existence in this world is will only bring more attention to me." She chuckled again, flying in and putting the boy down on the ground.

"Don't get yourself caught, Edakura. But I'm sure I don't need to worry about you," Vizas said, smirking at me. I pointed my staff at her, whispering some words, and she turned to sky blue flames and melded back into the crystal of the staff, knowing that meant Vizas had returned inside of the staff. Walking over to the boy, I slumped against the way beside him, panting softly, sweat going down my face. I no longer had to show my tough side now that nobody was watching me.

"The only reason why I would get caught is because of you messing around." I mumbled, shaking my head, looking over at the boy beside me. "Hmph… and now I have to take care of you until I find out answers." I looked towards the entrance of the cave, narrowing my eyes, sensing some people nearby. "Of course. Since you are a cambion as well, they are hunting for you too. Both of you are troublemakers." Sighing and standing up, I walked out of the cave to take care of the problem at hand.

Walking outside for a bit, I finally encountered the demon hunters from Hellzone corp. Some people that I found were very annoying and an unnecessary problem. "If you are looking for the boy, I would suggest you give up on your search," I told them to catch their attention, making them look at me. They narrowed their eyes, looking at me suspiciously. Their bodies were tensed up, telling me that they were getting ready for my attacks, their bodies in a defensive stance as well. Though it wouldn't protect them.

"Who are you?" one asked. The question was so cliche, and I had answered it many times before. I didn't bother answering it, wanting to just rid them of their lives instead. Answering them would do nobody good, and if my name were to be heard by someone nearby, there would be more trouble for me; the army might come to arrest me. More bodies were piling up behind me the more I lived my life.

"I am just like that boy," I said as my flames swirled around me, catching them off guard. It was just what I expected from some low leveled demon hunters of the corporation. "A demon. However, I cannot let you escape. So this is goodbye to you," I whispered, my eyes glowing a bright blue while I swung my staff. I planned on finishing this in one attack so I could go back. The boy was going to wake up soon. I had done the calculations earlier. "Lunestrike."

From the sky came a giant white fireball, falling down towards them like a meteorite heading towards the Earth. I pulled down my hood to cover more of face, peeking out to see the hunters stare at my magic, not running. 'Frozen in fear. How typical of people like you,' I thought, the sound of screaming resounding around me. It burned away into ashes like the bodies, the ashes carried away by the wind, leaving nothing but the burned ground left over.

"What a troublesome company," I whispered as I turned around and walked away back to the cave. The first thing I did was check on the boy, a habit of mine since I was in medical study at one point, trying to become a doctor. I checked his temperature, placing my hand against his forehead. "...a cambion like me. You use flames that come from hell too," I whispered, looking down at him. "How odd… and how convenient that we met."

Kurou's POV

I felt my eyes slowly begin to flutter open as I lay across the hard surface of rock, my vision was somewhat blurry, but not enough for me to miss that it was night, the sky a deep blue with nothing but stars scattering it. I held my head in pain, feeling as if my train of thought had been altered, but it was clear enough for me to remember what had happened not too long ago, the demoness I fought, as well as the blue girl who nearly knocked me out. I wondered just who the hell they were, and why they were out destroying the forest in the first place, the girl wasn't human, that was for sure, I looked to the side as I sat up and pondered this, to see the very same girl that knocked me out… away from me, but sound asleep.

I grit my teeth, I was trapped and there was no way I had any means of escaping her without getting injured or killed, if that wasn't worse enough, though I had healed, I could say for certain I wasn't quite at 100 percent. I tried to detect Kagura Village's energy signature once more, but there was no luck, the crimson girl's own power blocking out whatever other energy I would try to sense. There was one thing that had me confused, why did she capture me in the first place, what use could a stray cambion have to someone of her power? The more I tried to make sense of it, the more ridiculous it sounded in my own head.

She started to stir, catching my attention, and I panicked a bit, not sure what to do. Quickly, I laid back down, pretending to be fast asleep just in case she woke up and checked on me. Though, that wasn't what happened, and what she said next surprised me even more. "You should be resting for real. You do not stand a chance against me with your lack of energy," she told me, and I sat back up, glaring down at her.

"Who are you? And why did you kidnap me?" I demanded, wanting to know her reasons for bringing me with her in the first place. I was immediately silenced the moment she began releasing her magic energy, it was just a small surge, but enough to shut up anyone who dared defy her.

"That matter is not important right now," she said to me, glaring at me with her glowing blue eyes. They seemed haunting, filled with only anger and the passion for revenge. In a way, they seemed like me. "Now go and get some rest," she told me, standing up, heading towards the entrance of the cave. I had a feeling like this would be my chance to escape, yet I found that she would be expecting me and it would only follow with me dead at her feet.

I sighed, sitting back down before letting myself fall onto my back "Can you at least tell me your name?" I asked her as I prepared to rest, not having much choice in the matter.

"My name is of no real importance," she told me, looking back at me from the entrance. "All knowing it will do is have you hunted by another group." she told me, and I knew at that moment that she knew that I was a cambion. I also knew that she had some sort of connection to the organization. And then it hit me. This girl could've come to take me and hand me over to the Hellzone Corps, but she didn't for some reason, why? "But if you insist… my name is Edakura Midnight." she told me, disappearing out the entrance of the cave.

Yamarou's POV

In the crook of the night, hiding in a large pile of leaves, I was hiding throughout them, gun pointed right at my target who had decided to unveil herself, Edakura Midnight. In Hellzone Corps., we tended to have information on many of the cambions we've hunted, and one of them, Edakura, was one of the top hardest to kill, the only info we had on her was this. One, whenever she showed up, sometimes, there was bound to be a very powerful demoness with her, wielding three items, a dark blue battleaxe, a black very tall greatsword with designs on the blade that resembled the stars of the night sky, and a shield that looked to be of a strange white material, one thing was for sure, it did not look like it came from our world.

Two, everyone she's ever faced has been noted to come back only as ashes when defeated against her. Three, she is famous for wearing all blue and black, and her strange midnight blue flames, all of these factors made her a dangerous opponent for anyone, including me. Despite this, I learned a few things since leaving my old organization for Hellzone Corps, that being no matter how powerful the opponent was, tactics and precision could take the battle entirely.

I slowly and quietly took out a silencer from my bag, equipping it to the barrel of the gun and I began to aim, a small yellow eyepiece coming over my eye. The eyepiece began displaying her magic energy state and mental status and my targeting accuracy "Magic energy state: stable, Mental status: stable, Targeting accuracy: stable." I whispered to myself. Pressing a button on the side of the sniper rifle, flaxen yellow energy began to charge at the tip of the barrel, and as soon as the gun's power reached maximum output… "Fire." and just like that, a thin, but very powerful pinpointed blast of energy fired out, heading right for Edakura at high speed.

As the blast came zipping toward her, cobalt blue flames began to gather around her when it got close, but before it could pierce through, the flames suddenly began to crystallize into a large dome crystal barrier, blocking the attack as it exploded against it. When the smoke cleared, there was only a few cracks, but nothing disastrous, my eyes narrowed, this would be challenging, but a mission was a mission, and so long as Edakura Midnight was captured this would be well worth it. I suddenly began to turn the dial on the sniper rifle, switching it out to Buster Mode and two blasts in what would seem like a second to anyone else, firing off two gigantic golden blasts of energy at the barrier. Both combined and increased in power to the point it began to tear through the trees in its wake.

As the blasts fired off toward her, dark blue demonic energy suddenly began to engulf her body until erupting around her in a pillar of sapphire colored flames, and out came Edakura as a blue firebird. Clearly, Edakura was now aware of my general direction, as seen when she began to charge at me, I fired more blasts of energy toward her, all of which were avoided by her moving to the sides. When she was close enough, she suddenly breathed a destructive inferno of persian blue hellfire at me, I'd quickly blocked with the brunt of my sniper rifle, being pushed back by the blast, but escaping any damage I would have taken had I done nothing.

I glared at her as she slowly levitated toward the ground, turning back to her normal form, she would shoot a glare back at me. "So tell me demon hunter, how would you like to die?" asked Edakura as she points her staff at me threateningly, her eyes glowing a dangerously bright azure blue. A small, almost unnoticeable smirk appeared on my face as I threw my sniper rifle into the air, and as it flew in the air, with just a thought, the sniper rifle split, into two uzi guns, which I caught and pointed at her "I'll die by shooting." I immediately pulled the trigger, unleashing a countless barrage of large, potent yellow energy bullets toward her.

There was a shocked expression on the female Cambions face, but in a flash of blue light, the armor of her demoness appeared over her body. A few shots managed to hit her straight on, making her hood fall off her head as she fell to the ground, knocking her off guard, I would rush at her, going for the kill as I reattached my guns back into their sniper form. Right as I got close however, there was suddenly a blur of green and black that passed me the intense wind it caused somehow managing to send me flying, I quickly managed to gain balance on one of the tree branches, gazing down at the figure that attacked.

The figure seemed to be none other than Kurou Kurosawa, the newbie cambion, ranked somewhere at the middle of the list of cambions, who was in front of Edakura right now, however, something was different about him. His hair and clothes were now mostly a very dark blue that could be considered black, with streaks of a darker shade of green than what we saw of him, and was covered in what looked like black and green armor.

Omniscient POV

Yamarou glared down at the now color changed Kurou, wondering what kind of form he was in right now, nothing was different about him except for his changed colors and new armor, yet something about him felt… off. Kurou would glare up at Yamarou, the demon hunter from an organization that annihilated everything he loved, he would look back at Edakura with a stern look "I suggest you step back, I'm going to kill him with everything I have." said Kurou with a glare brimming with vengeance.

Edakura glared back at the boy, narrowing her eyes slightly. The armor around her body disappeared, and she tried not to show her tired face. Her magic energy was currently drained a bit, despite the calm and confident look in her eyes. "No. He is out of your league. You go back to the hiding spot and let me deal with him. He is not the first one I killed and he will not be the last one either," she told him, moving to stand in front of Kurou, her crystal staff held tightly in her hand.

Despite her warning, Kurou would still move in front of her, blocking her way "You don't understand." said Kurou in a now distorted voice, demonic energy mixed in within it that would catch even those of higher power off guard. A chain whip sword of black and green lights on each blade piece would appear in his hand, and he would get in a battle stance, glaring with bloodlust in his eyes "This man is part of the organization that destroyed everything I love, everything I ever knew, everyone I've ever loved, I have no choice but to kill him, in order to avenge them." uttered Kurou in a voice becoming more demonic with each word he spoke. Kurou would glare back at Edakura, the pressure of his energy growing more and more as he did "I want you to understand, this is my fight." said Kurou determinedly, it was clear Kurou would not falter from this even if Edakura forced him to.

"I will NOT let another cambion die in front of my eyes again," Edakura said to him, quite stubborn since she wasn't faltering to Kurou either. She would always fight to get her way, even if she was wrong. Her pride was always at stake. "So if I must fight you before I fight him, I will. Do not test me," she argued, pointing her staff at Kurou, challenging him to a fight. She probably wouldn't back down until she was forced to. Luckily, she was tired and weak at this point.

Kurou would just stare at her, deathly silent for a moment before suddenly in a burst of speed; would instantaneously appear in front of Edakura before sending a quick, but hard punch to her stomach. Edakura's eyes would widen in pain before finally passing out, falling as Kurou caught her in one arm, laying her against a tree "I won't die, I can guarantee that much." he said before turning back to look at Yamarou with a glare that only spelled death. Yamarou would point his sniper rifle at Kurou one handed, his calm expression surprisingly still remaining "You would really risk revenge over survival?" Yamarou asked, wondering why he would just knock out Edakura; someone who gave him the one chance to live on and escape from Hellzone Corps.

Kurou would just give the demon slayer a stern look, then suddenly grinned "Shut up." he said plain and simple, but surprisingly, said this with a grin on his face. Yamarou just scowled at Kurou before beginning to fire rapid blasts of golden energy toward Kurou, only for him to just simply stand there, and with one slash, sent out a black ark that seemed to destroy every single blast. Yamarou's eyes widened slightly at his attacks being neutralized so easily, but simply began turning the dial, amping the level of the blasts and began to shoot barrages of even larger energy blasts toward Kurou. A crazed grin would then appear on Kurou's face as he began rushing toward Yamarou, who willed the blasts to all combine into one singular beam. Kurou would just stab his sword right into the blast the entire blast engulfing him while he remained unscathed, still running and cutting through the center of it.

Wildly, Kurou would now jump right into the air, black and green energy would suddenly begin to glow radiantly from the pieces of Kurou's chain whip sword and Kurou would begin to spin himself while in the air. Yamarou would transform his guns into uzis once more and would shoot at Kurou as he spun through the air, but it was no use as every bullet Yamarou shot at Kurou would only be deflected off his body. The black and green energy would suddenly begin to flow and swirl violently around Kurou's body as he kept rocketing toward Yamarou, and he would appear in front of Yamarou, eyes surging with green and black energy right before finally cutting right through his body. The resulting impact of the blast caused a maelstrom of green and pitch black energy to be shot forward, disintegrating every tree and whatever life was in front of it to nothingness.

As Kurou fell back to the ground, the blackness began to rip entirely off of his body before he reverted back to his emerald green self, finally passing out the moment he hit the ground.
