It was pitch black. Cain couldn't see anything. In fact he couldn't feel anything either. None of his senses were working, and this slightly freaked him out. Somehow, he didn't have a body yet his mind was still able to function.

'What happened? Is this death?'

The stabbing pain was gone, replaced by a serene feeling. He felt the most calm he had ever felt in his life, such a feeling of indifference was truly wondrous. He could probably jump off a cliff and not feel a single hint of fear or worry.

Time passed, but he couldn't tell how long it was. Exactly how much time had passed was hard to track, the void around him never changed and never moved. Everything was still and peaceful.

Except for Cain's mind.

'There's no air, yet somehow I can breathe. No colors at all, and such an unnatural shade of black paints everything. Oh, wait. Am I in hell? No no no, hell has fire and devils, I am just in a void… so is this limbo?'

Such thoughts floated around in his head, and strangely, the thought of him being in hell didn't really scare him. But he knew it should have, he knew he should be feeling something, anything considering his current situation. Any sane person should be feeling anxious, scared, or sad. It was such a strange experience, to feel nothing, that he began to wonder if everything was actually real.

'Maybe this is a fabrication of my mind? Like, I was so traumatized after death that my brain shut down? Wait, no that can't be it. I wouldn't be thinking right now…'

Gradually, he became more and more confused as an unknown amount of time passed by. It could have been minutes, but to Cain, it felt like it had been forever.

He couldn't recall exactly what it was, but something pushed his mind downwards. Well, mind probably wouldn't be a good word. More like his conscience was pushed, as he didn't have a body right now, at least to his knowledge.

'Oh, well I guess we are going down then…'

Cain couldn't feel fear or excitement as he descended through the void. His weird state of calmness seemed to be forcing all his emotions down and, consequently, pushed his rational thoughts up. That was the best way he could explain it, although it was just a conjecture.

All of the sudden, a light came into existence in the void. It wasn't a shining light nor was it how people envisioned a light at the end of a tunnel. He wasn't in a tunnel and the void snuffed out all color and luminosity. But somehow, this speck of slightly glowing brightness was able to penetrate the void. And Cain was heading towards it. Slowly at first, but he started to gain speed the closer he got. Almost like how magnets found their opposite pole, he had found his calling.

By the time he reached the light, it was significantly duller than he thought. It seemed to have become darker, almost blending into the void.

'Oh shit. Why's it getting darker? No no no, wait stop!'

He felt like a bullet, his speed had become increasingly fast and he found he had little to no control over where he was going. With reluctance, Cain just let himself be pulled to the speck. Soon he was within arms reach of the speck, if he had arms, and finally crashed into the little orb.
