THE BRIDGE

Dawn came an so did the fog. Half of the bridge disappeared into the overgrowing mist, the dead was hidden away into the fog. They cannot see through it a wall of dead. The bridge seems shaky because of the incredible, cold, gusts of winds continuously pushing on the bridge. Randal and his family felt heavy on their feet, that fog is now a death sentence. Randall also has a realization.

'Cold' He said, the trembling in his voice so clear.

"Cold? What happens when it is cold?"

"The virus loves the cold.....the virus can now bask in the sun and chill in the cold"

"Oh God"

"We'll take your truck with us sweetie"

"There might be other cars in there"

"Let's pray that we won't hit it"

The couple is now scared knowing the risk they'll have to take in order to get pass the bridge. They took magazines ad duct tapes and taped it around their forearms, thigh, and shin. They might crash the truck but it is the less of their worries. What comes after crashing is what they fear.

Craig stayed in the front sit while Randall still sat at the back. The car is also running out of gas, they did not get extra fuel because of what happened in Vineland earlier. Amanda turned the engine on and the mother and son put on the seatbelt, they are ready for what is to come.

The engine rumbling, and noise echoing in the open air. Amanda turned the front lights on, and they start their slow decent into the fog. As soon as they enter the wall of fog cold air blew into Randall's face, his theory has proven to be true. He started to tense up in the fog and his eyes are darting everywhere to see anything.

They can hear the growls, groans, moans and any spine-chilling sounds of the dead. He took a build gulp to keep his head calm, for now it is a battle of mental fortitude. Amanda stopped the car, suddenly out of the fog a person run pass them. Hightailing it out of that bridge, he kept his mouth shut as after the man disappeared behind them another horde came.

The dead came running full force after the man, fortunately for them them the dead ignored them and only hit the truck which they ignored, They have a massive sigh of relief. He continued to lay down as the dead chase after him, after a solid 5 minutes the last of the dead came running through. Amanda turned on the car and continued to drive slowly, they are not risking it on foot.

Amanda turns on the cars front lights again, after 3 minutes. To their horror, there were still more and this time they are standing around. Their head aimed above and acting aimlessly. Randall and his family are bewildered upon seeing these dead, they stopped on their tracks. They are now trapped and in the grasp of death. In front of them a bomb that will explode on them, to their sides instant death when jumping off the bridge, and behind them the Earth's top predators.

Without a second to waste Randall made his decision, he opened the window behind them and told Amanda to 'step on it'. Its now or never and Amanda followed. She stepped on the pedal and mowed through the dead, they reacted but in a slower way, they continued to pass the dead.

They hit a school bus, seatbelts and air bags kept the two in front conscious, Randall is safe with only a scratch to his head. Oil started to come out and sat on fire.

"Get out, Get out..... we're climbing over the school bus..."

Randall grabbed Craig and threw the first bag of their resources with him, then his wife. Behind them they can hear the growls, shrieks, and screeches of the dead, Craig immediately climbed on top of the truck's roof to the bus's roof with some of their resources. He immediately got into position and aimed behind his parents, Amanda got on top and they hopped down immediately.

Out of nowhere of the dead jumped onto the roof and tackled Randall directly to the truck's windshield, despite facing death he didn't dare to scream. He put his rifle and barred its mouth to keep it from biting him, he grabbed his pistol and aimed. He didn't shoot, instead with all his strength he tear its head off from its body, the body fell and he threw its head away, its mouth sill biting. He got on top of the bus and down with his family.

"Hey, you guys okay?"

"Yeah we are"

"Good.....guns out...Hell is about to come"

At the other side of the bus the fog has finally started to clear and their field of vision has finally widen and everything became much more terrifying that it should be. Rays of light pierce through the fog, but not strong enough to clear it away. Amanda stayed in the middle as a support, Randall in front with his rifle and Craig looking behind them.

The only thing they can hear is their own heartbeat, breathing, steps, and the distant sounds created by the dead.

*BOOM* *BANG*

When they turned around, the bus has toppled over and the fog has been cleared by the shock wave emitted by the exploded truck. Immediately they started to run, the bridge is starting to crack beneath them, and it starts to fall apart piece by piece. The family starts to run as fast as they can, and in front of them, their predators. They hid behind a car as the first wave of the dead ran past them once more. As soon as those runners clear they moved, with their suppressed and melee weapons, they pushed through the alerted awakened once. They started to clear only in the direction they are going through, they walk slow anyway.

Finally they got out of the hellish fog, the time in their felt longer and slower for them, but only an hour has passed. Both lanes are blocked by massive army tanks and different cars have lined up. 'No use taking one of those' Randall said, more of the dead from the fog has started to come out. Fortunately for them, there is a shipping company in sight. They can use the big trucks to run down any of the dead that comes their way.

They got to the part of the highway where they can easily jump off it, they climbed over and slid down. The dead is just behind them chasing after them, they continued to run towards the shipping area. He shot anyone that comes close to them, truly a man skilled with a rifle. They got onto the parking lot up front and inside of the massive building, more.

The shots that Randall is taking is attracting the ones inside of the building, Craig started to lockpick the delivery truck door. Amanda is aiming at the ones in the building, Amanda stood by the driver's door where Craig is.

"Hurry Kid.."

"Yeah, yeah yeah yeah I got it"

After jimmying the lock, the truck door opened and alarmed. The family got into the truck and drove even with the siren. They drove away, they attracted more of the dead as they followed the main road, but the truck is enough to outrun them. They followed the 95th interstate and is now on their way to Baltimore, then to DC.

"You've got to be jokin'"

"Oh no"

"Sonuvabitch"

As soon as they arrived at the bridge, the 95th Interstate has been cut off, they now have to make a detour to the Chesapeake bay bridge. Unbeknownst to them, that bridge is also destroyed.

"Let's go to Delaware"

"Why?"

"We have a friend there, maybe they can help us"

"You sure?"

"Yeah, Greenwood.. I think"

"What if they might have moved"

"Let's hope... okay?"

"Sure... I trust you"

The two parent shared a kiss as Craig sleeps, they are now heading to Greenwood.

"It's only about 2 hours, don't worry"

Randall pulled out a map the Eastern states, he started to mark down the following cities that they'll pass when heading to Greenwood. Cecilton, Fredericktown, Galena, Millington, Goldsboro, Greensboro, Denton, then Greenwood

"We can skip Denton"

"You said they might have left right?"

"Yeah"

"There's a small port there, we might get in one of em small boats... head to DC through the water, they can't swim"

TOBIAS

"WE ALL GAVE YOU A HOME, WHERE YOU CAN STAY.....IN THIS IS HOW, YOU OF ALL PEOPLE WILL REPAY US?"

"....."

"We have no choice....OKAY?"

"Ye-"

Tobias is kicked in the mouth by someone. Something happened in Denton, unbeknownst to Randall and his family, this could be the last place they'll ever visit.
