Chapter Two: Avoiding Him

Avery POV

Mate I say as I inhale the sweet mixture scent of fresh grass and rain. I stand up carefully as the pure white cat starts to wiggle around in my arms, trying to get away from me.

"Hey," I whisper "you are ok now, I have you." I say in a sweet calming voice.

The cat stops wiggling and I proceed to gently place her down, allowing her to shift. Instead, she runs off very fast. She bolts into the forest, her scent quickly starts to fade. I take a deep breath and let out a sign.

We will find her Avery. My wolf, Nite (the name is spelled like that but is pronounced as Night), says as I transform back into my wolf form and run all the way home wondering why my mate is a cat and why she ran away from me. I knew who she was, her name is Jasmine and she works at the cafe I visited today.

(going into third-person point of view)

Avery arrives to the pack house, shifting into his human form, he runs inside to his room. Getting on comfy pajamas, Sara; Avery's "girlfriend" comes barging into Avery's room.

"Why the hell were you checking out a sixteen year old?!" Sara yells.

"Do you mind?! And no I was not checking out any sixteen years old." Avery replies loudly back at Sara.

Both Sara and Avery bring their argument into the kitchen.

"Both Ryan and Kyle said you were, today at the Kinglings Café you liar!" Sara bangs her hand, which is in a fist, on to the counter top.

Avery looks down then back up at Sara.

"Sara, that girl that I was supposedly 'checking out' is my mate."

Sara, who is shocked and surprised, stares at Avery with disbelief.

"She is a cat shape shifter, there is no way she is your mate!"

"Her scent was fresh grass and rain mixed, her scent is stronger then anyone else's scent, even yours. I'm not your mate, you need to leave the pack house and go back to your parents house, they will be happy that you will be with them again."

Sara jaw flies open, as if she was going to argue more, but instead Sara shuts it and growls. Sara goes to Avery's room to gather her stuff and leaves the pack house. As all of that was happening, Avery went to see his parents in the library.

"Mother? father?" Avery called out as Avery enter into the giant library.

"Avery! We heard that there were rouges, did you get hurt? Are you ok? WAIT! Did anyone else ge- OH MY IREANE, YOU HAVE FOUND YOUR MATE! Who is she? Oh wait is it a he?" Avery's mother, Iris, who has a problem with asking too many questions, yells at the top of her lungs with her voice even cracking a few times.

"Dear, give the boy some time to respond to one of your questions before you give him another one." Avery's father, Keith, says as he gently puts a hand on his wife's shoulder. "Well son, please tell us what happened and tell us about this mate of yours."

Avery, Keith, and Iris all go and sit near the fireplace in the library.

"Well, I was told by a guard that they were getting scents of two rouges near the entrance of the woods. I walked over there, and as I was walking over there I got a scent that hit me pretty hard. It was a mixture of fresh grass and rain. Like the one I told you guys about earlier today when me, Kyle, and Ryan all went to the Kinglings Café that was coming from that girl Jasmine. Anyway, I walked over to see that a rouge grabbed her by her neck, she also was in her cat form. The two rouges didn't see me so I quickly changed into Nite and jumped on the one and snapped his neck. The other one was running away with her still in his mouth. I bite into his neck which caused him to throw Jasmine into the air and I was able to changed into human form and catch her. But, she got away from me."

"Son, is your mate, the cat?"

"Y-yes father, she is."

Iris hugged Avery, letting a tear or two slip though.

"Go and find her." Iris said.

Avery smiled and ran out of the library and back out to where he last saw Jasmine.

"I'm going to find you, my kitten mate."
