THE WAR YEARS 1942-1945

The war years were difficult for Elizabeth, Joanne and Rose, there men were gone, they had no way of knowing where they went, but as hard as it was for Elizabeth, Joanne and Rose, the war was hell on earth for James, Joseph, and Danny.

James, Joseph, and Danny are sent to the worst places imaginable. On the Solomon Islands of Guadalcanal disaster strikes. The invasion force of marines including James, Joseph, and Danny are making their way to the island, in the mist of gun and mortar fire a bullet strikes James, he goes down. Joseph, and Danny drag James to land. James is alive, but badly wounded. Joseph and Danny are doing everything possible to keep Jams alive until the medics arrive. For the next couple hours the fighting in Guadalcanal is intense, many of their fellow marines are wounded, dying or dead. The medics have been stretched thin. James is barley hanging on. Joseph, and Danny are doing everything and I mean everything to keep James alive while returning fire.

James is drifting in and out of consciousness, barley able to stay awake for longer than five minutes. James hears his two best friends calling his name telling him to hang on, but the only thing James is thinking about is his beloved Elizabeth, and staying alive for her.

In San Francisco Elizabeth is keeping herself busy making care packages for their soldiers, but Elizabeth senses something is wrong. Elizabeth heads home. When Elizabeth reaches her home she sees Joanne and Rose waiting for her. Elizabeth rushes to meet them and she tells them her feelings, they tell her not to worry, James is going to be alright.

The letters Joanne and Rose receive from their men are comforting. In the letters Joseph and Danny reveal what is happening on the battlefront, the hardships they are dealing with and James Injury. Joesph and Danny writhe how much they miss them and miss being home, and how much they love them.

James survived his wounds, he's recovering aboard one of the ships. In a few days James will rejoin his unit on the island of Guadalcanal. While in recovery James writes to Elizabeth about his recovery, how he's eager to get back to his unit, his love for Elizabeth, and that he can't wait to get home.

Elizabeth receives James first letter. Elizabeth is happy to learn James is doing good during his recovery. Elizabeth writes a letter to James telling him everything she has been doing. Elizabeth tells James about her work, her time out with Joanne and Rose. Elizabeth tells James to let Joseph and Danny know that Joanne and Rose are mastering their baking skills, so when they get home there will be plenty of cake, cookies and cupcakes for them, with a smile on her face Elizabeth finishes writing the letter. She puts the letter in the envelope, sprinkles her perfume on the envelope, and heads to the post office.

James received Elizabeth letter, he smells the envelope, and smiles. James reads the letter and is glad to know Elizabeth is doing well, and happy to know that she's keeping busy with her work. James tells Joseph and Danny about their wives baking, and they are happy and can't wait to eat some cake. James folds the letter back into the envelope and says to himself, I will see you soon my love.
