LATE SUMMER AUGUST 1945

By August 1945 the war in the pacific has been raging for 3 years. August has been the deadliest month so far, and it is only the first week of the month. Plans are underway for the largest invasion in military history, but the U.S. president Harry Truman has other plans to end the war and secure victory.

The atomic bomb has been in development for 3 years, and now it's ready to end the war. The first bomb is dropped on August 6th 1945 on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, but the Japanese government didn't surrender. The second bomb is dropped on August 9th 1945 on the Japanese city of Nagasaki. These two bombs killed hundreds of thousands of people. Om August 14th 1945 the Emperor of Japan formally surrender. The war in the pacific is over.

News of the surrender reached James, Joseph, and Danny's unit the day after the surrender. They were elated to know the war is finally over, and they are going back home. James, Joseph, Danny and their unit celebrated the ending of the war. Three years of war and death os finally over.

When the news of victory in the pacific reached Elizabeth, Joanne, and Rose, they began to cry tears of joy. The three year nightmare is finally over. Their men are coming home at last. Elizabeth, Joanne, and Rose had to wait another month until their men would finally come home, it was worth it for them. They felt comfort knowing their men are alive.
