Chapter 1

"Help me! Someone, please help me!"

...

"Call an ambulance!"

...

"I'm sorry. She's gone."

...

"It's all my fault."

...

"Sorry."

I gasped and shot up from the bed. I can barely breathe right. I'm covered in a cold sweat. Gross. I thought to myself I need a shower. I get up and look at the time. 3:46 a.m. I inhale a shaky breath and exhale as I get up from the bed. I head towards the shower.

It's early. After the shower, I should patrol the area. Then get groceries

As I shower, I think about the dream. It has been 7 years since everything started and 3 years she's been gone. Yet it feels like it was only yesterday, we were all together.

"Get over yourself!" I tell myself as I gently slap my face "Stop thinking! Nothing good ever comes from thinking!"

After I get out, I put my costume on. Which is just a black shirt, jeans, knee-high shoes, and a mask to hide my face.

I put my long pink hair back in a bun. I write a note to my uncles that says: "Going out. Will be back with food." My uncles will understand.

They want me to go to a hero school but they know how hard that would be for me so they don't force me.

I walk out the door and my wings sprout out from my back. I leap into the air and flap my wings. I soar high above buildings and feel free. I forget about the dream for now.

This is one of my quirks, DeadlyWings. I have two quirks in all. My second quirk is called RedString, but I don't usually use it nor do I like using it, except in emergencies, so I turn it off so that I don't have to see the string all the time.

I look down below and keep a lookout for any bad guys.

*Sniff* *Sniff* Barbecue?

I was so busy looking down that when I looked up, I was surprised to see a tall burning building.

"That's one BIG barbecue."

I spotted a man on top of the building who looked like he was made of fire. I could hear him yelling "I have the most powerful quirk! Look at me! Look at what I did to this entire building!"

You ain't special dude. Literally, anyone with a lighter can light a building on fire. Chill out. Hehe…see what I did there? Dad joke I guess…

I land on top of a building, hiding behind a chimney. I waited to see if there were any heroes around. I don't want to get in their way. But I also want to make sure there is no one in the building.

I see a firefighter hero, on the ground putting out the fire from the bottom. There is also a big crowd gathering at the bottom of the building, along with the press. The police and firemen were busy keeping the crowd back.

I decide to stay hidden. I look up and that's when I see them. A young woman carrying a child who looks about 5 years old. The woman is high enough on the building to see me. She starts waving and yelling at me. The fire suddenly gets bigger behind her and scares her. She loses her footing and falls along with her kid.

I didn't even think about my next move. I fly fast enough to catch them before they landed on the ground.

"Thank you!" she exclaimed. "No problem," I reply as I land a bit further from the building, and away from the crowd.

"Do you want me to take you to the police station or to a hospital?" I ask.

"No, it's ok. But my sister is still in the building.." She said.

I go back to the building through the same window the mother fell from.

Since my skin is tough enough to not get cut by my wings, the fire licks my skin but doesn't hurt that bad.

I look all around and find an unconscious woman in one of the bedrooms.

I shake her and yell at her to wake up. It's pointless. I have to get her away from the smoke and fire.

I lift her bridal style and take her to the window where the mother fell. I fly away from the building and land on the ground away from the burning building.

"Is this your sister?" I asked as I held her sister up.

"Yes! Thank you!" She replies

"I don't think I recognize which hero you are. Would you tell me your name? At least your hero name." she asks.

After a moment of hesitation, I decide to tell her the truth. I did save her and possibly her daughter's life. She wouldn't betray me...right?

"I never got my license so I don't have a hero name. Please don't tell anyone." I begged.

"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. But may I ask why? I mean I don't want to pry, but you won't get any credit for your work." She said.

"It's a long story. I don't mind not getting credit. I don't do this for fame. I just want to protect others." I reply.

"You are such an amazing girl. Again, thank you from both my daughter and me." She said

"Get your sister to the hospital now. Just to be sure that she hasn't inhaled too much smoke or been burned." I tell her.

"Yes, thank you! I hope we see each other again." She yells as she leaves.

Yeah...maybe when you're not in danger.

Next stop, the grocery store.
