The Patient In VIP Room 1

Upon hearing no response, she twisted the doorknob and entered the ward. This VIP ward was indeed deserving of being the number VIP ward in the hospital, for its luxury and elegance was almost on par with a presidential suite in a five-star hotel. It looked nothing like a hospital's ward, if not for the medical apparatus and machines present. Her patient was a 78-year-old man who had suffered a mild heart attack. He looked younger than his age when you omit his slightly wrinkled face which gave away his old age.

His condition was quite serious because he also had high blood pressure but he was brought to the hospital on time' hence his condition didn't escalate. After checking his vitals and replacing the half full drip, Pearl made herself comfortable on the couch. She missed Momma and Nancy very much. They had become the family she had always wished for. She had run out of the orphanage in search of Jason but she had gotten lost on the way. The children in the orphanage had mocked at her, saying that Jason would never come back for her and all his promises were just lies. She had refused to believe their words; hence she ran away in search of him.

Although she had known that she knew nothing of his whereabouts, she couldn't stand the mocking gazes of those orphans. "Hey there little one. Are you lost? It's not safe for a pretty little girl like you to be out here all alone." She had realized her stupidity then so she had informed the odd looking man of her residence but she had been too innocent thus failed to notice his creepy and lecherous looks towards her.

She had been too trusting of people back then so when she was brought into the truck by the man, she hadn't noticed anything odd. Unfortunately, it was too late before she realized that they were of evil intentions. The truck sped by the orphanage without stopping. She had alerted the driver but he only licked his cracked lips, sending chills down her spine. The one who had brought her into the van started touching her inappropriately. Pearl had been scared for she now realized what the man wanted to do.

She screamed, scratched his face and struggled with all her might but he became even more aggressive than before. She felt dirty and humiliated but he didn't stop. His hands were about to unbutton her dress when an incoming vehicle collided with theirs, sending the truck off the road. The impact killed the driver immediately but Pearl and the other man were heavily injured. Pearl tried to stay conscious but the loss of blood from her body was making her dizzy. The truck was almost at the edge of a cliff.

Pearl struggled due to the immense pain her body was in, but she persevered and was about to make it out of the door when a hand suddenly held her hair. Her head was bleeding at that moment so the sudden pull made her suck in a deep breath. He was much more injured than Pearl but he was still strong enough to pull her back. He tried taking her clothes off and a ripping sound was soon heard. Pearl was in tears and in fear but she didn't want to be tainted by a psychopath. The man looked scary and he roughly kissed Pearl's neck.

He wanted to have his way with her before they both died. Or so he thought… Pearl was trembling but she was able to grasp a baseball bat.

Bam! She hit his head albeit weakly but it was enough to make him release his hold on her. She made it out of the door but her hair got stuck. The pain was unbearable and her vision was turning blurry. Gritting her teeth, she pulled her hair out, losing a lot of strands in the process. She had run unsteadily until she was at a safe distance from the truck. She soon fainted due to the blood loss and earlier struggle.

In her subconscious state, she saw the truck exploding before she gave in and fell unconscious. Nancy was sixteen by then and she had discovered Pearl's unconscious self at the scene. Momma and Nancy had saved her and from that moment onwards, her life had been connected to this amazing duo. The pair of mother and daughter had taken care of her and had nursed her back to health. They had helped her overcome her nightmares and had become her family.

She had gone back to the orphanage to inform Mother of the incident. Mother had cried upon seeing her and she had gotten to know that everyone had thought she had died. Mother had also informed her of Jason's visit and how he had lost it when he was informed of her death. She had wept bitterly for she would've gone crazy if the same incident had met him. She was heartbroken because they might never meet again. After all, he was her first love.

Pearl realized that she had once again gone lost in her memories. She had to work hard so that Momma and Nancy could live well. She couldn't love anyone after Jason so her family was her top priority now. "Miss, you even dream with your eyes open. Why don't you share a story with this boring old man?" Pearl got startled by his voice. "Do you need anything, Sir?" Pearl asked, not knowing that he had spoken to her. Peter didn't repeat himself but only requested for a glass of water.

He had caught the young lady in a daze and had made that joke to distract her from those sad memories. He was never one to initiate a conversation with a stranger but the sadness and loneliness in eyes were too much for him to bear. "Sir, your vitals are stable and with enough rest, you'll be discharged in no time." Pearl informed him of his condition based on the doctor's report. "Do you feel any discomfort anywhere? Are you hungry? Kindly relay your requests, Sir."

She wasn't trying to curry favor with him nor was she doing this with ill intentions, for her eyes were so pure and this made Peter Clent have a good impression of this nurse. Anyways, Pearl wasn't aware of this and went on with her duties. She checked his temperature and blood pressure. "Your blood pressure is normal and your temperature is 37.6 degrees Celsius. What would you like to eat, Sir? I would be leaving to inform the doctor of your waking." She had to let Dr. Ronald know of the patient's waking hence she wanted to bring him his meals.

Peter just observed her. She was very professional and had a pure heart. There weren't many people whose innocence could reflect in their eyes. She was indeed a rare existence. "You are the nurse" Peter said with a genuine smile. At least, his days in this hospital won't be boring. Pearl smiled amiably as well since her patient seemed friendly. She thought that most of those wealthy folks were arrogant, rude, boastful, pompous…Okay that was too much but at least that's what she had seen in movies.

But her patient seemed nice so she would do her best to make his stay quite comfortable. He reminded her of Momma. They had the same eye color-amber. Pearl left the ward and strode towards Dr. Ronald's office.
