Synopsis

With the wake of a serial killer that seems untraceable, Bryan Derrick—a detective with a high success rate—is sent to help out in the case but things quickly spiral as he is entangled in many life threatening events as he tries to uncover the secret of the 'smiling psychopath'.

He soon discovers a plot in this new city and discovers that it is made by his arch enemy. he soon realises that his past has followed him to this new city.

 He makes new friends and helps then solve their problems by investigating for them and also goes on a journey to accept his dark past but one thing eludes him: the mystery of the serial killer!

Saviour Ibok is a Nigerian writer of science fiction and fantasy. He has written many titles including Haklaran Hunter trilogy, Elixir of Love and The Last Soldiers.

The Tenth Victim

Bryan arrived at the HR's office and knocked before entering. He showed his badge to the woman who sat behind the desk and she nodded.

"What can I help you with?" she asked with a signature smile.

"Why was Mr Stark Devereux fired from the company?" he asked without wasting time for niceties.

The lady nodded and typed some things into her computer, "We have records of every worker hired and sacked and the reasons so I'll just check. I can't remember it now." She explained to the detective.

She read after a while of looking into her screen, "Mr Stark Devereux was our quality control expert. He worked in our warehouses with a team that time and somehow they overlooked a particular batch of raw materials and it was substandard so the company fired him and his team for the incompetency."

"Just that?" Bryan was a bit surprised that it wasn't because of some case of fraud or illegal dealings.

"That's the reason he was sacked." The lady replied.
