I Let Her Down

That morning, Bernadette visited Bryan in the hospital. She could tell that he hadn't slept a wink the previous night. She smiled at him and he nodded his head.

"You didn't sleep?" he asked after studying her for a while.

She nodded, "couldn't dare to close my eyes."

After the murder yesterday, she was afraid. For the first time she was actually afraid of the killer. She was scared to think that she might jump in and attack her while she was sleeping and made her act as a watch guard for the kids despite the other guards outside.

Bryan was quiet and lowered his head. It was too late. His heart had broken into fragments the moment he heard the news. Somehow he felt responsible.

If only he had thought deeper into the matter in time then he would have been able to prevent this from happening. He had been too narrow-minded in the investigation and this resulted in the death of two people he cared about.
