the hell pit

She herself did not know why she uttered the words she did like her tongue had its own mind, so before she could even think it worked on its own and asked the question which she knew was irrelevant.

The demon had already died, and that was it. There was nothing anyone could do about it.

But somewhere in her subconscious mind, she still had hope. She had hoped that Saint Nicholas could do anything. Hoped that he would help her in getting rid of the guilt that was crawling over her. She still had hoped that there would be a way, by which she would be able to do something for the demon who had saved her life.

She could not bear that the demon died because she was the one who had dragged her here. So unconsciously her subconscious mind spoke before she could control it.

"What do you want about that child?" asked Saint Nicholas, turning back.

'I want to make her alive father.' the words were on the tip of her tongue but she did not have the courage to say them.

She knew it was against the law of earth to make the dead person alive again, and it was not going to change just because she was feeling guilty.

So she bit her tongue hard, as the metallic taste filled her mouth, her mind started working a bit, she shook her head as she denied, "nothing father, I just wanted to give her a good farewell."

"Hmmm, I had thought so," he said with a laugh as he moved back and turned towards the hell pit.

Closing his eyes he waved his hands as he spoke, "let all the happiness and hopes of this world fill the place with its positivity." with that he slowly closed the gap between his open arms.

The way his hands were coming closer, the gap of the hole was also decreasing.

And at last when his hands clasped together the hole was disappeared as it was never there.

There was not even a crack or mark on the earth to show what had happened there a while ago.

Then he waved a hand towards all the carcasses and blood and all the ashes that had filled the area. With the way, a white light came out of his hands and filled the whole area.

The brightening white light touched all the carcasses and blood, all the ashes and shredded skin and body parts laid there. It absorbed everything under its brightness. As it continued to move, disappearing every mark of the battle that was placed here.

The place was once again like before, the trees were lush green, the earth was clean and brown, the air was fresh and filled with the sweet smell of flowers around.

The sky was filled with the streaks of light blue, with no sign of smoke. Sun rays illuminating the area in its glow as the birds started chirping. The flowers bloomed indicating the fresh start after the bloody end.

The sun was above indicating the start of a new day. A new chapter of the book called life. Then why was she stuck in the old one?

Whatever happened, happened. She had to forget it now. Because there was nothing she could do. Though it hurt her to the core, that even after being this powerful she could not do anything for that poor soul.

She repeated in her mind like a child, that the demon had to die. Demons could not live on earth. Whatever happened was the best for everyone.

But whenever she closed her eyes, she could see the happy faces of the small family together. She could see Anna and Mike laughing over Bella as Alex gave a small smile while shaking his head.

She could see the kindness of Sharon who treated everyone so well.

She sighed, running a hand in her hair as she heard the voice.

Father Nicholas was coming towards her, after finishing her task. He had the same kind smile on his face, which he always had.

"Are you okay my child?" he asked her as he approached her again.

"Yes Saint Nicholas, I am better," she replied with a sweet smile which was nothing but a facade.

He shook his head as he chuckled, "as the mother of the elves, lying did not suit you, my dear, especially to the person who could catch it easily."

"I am sorry Saint Nicholas," she replied, closing her eyes again.

"It's okay, child, as a saint, feeling emotions is a good thing. Don't run away with it. Tell me what is bothering you? Maybe I could help.'' His words were like a spell as it always made the other person do his bidding and Evelyn was no better.

"I can not forget my father, their happy faces are haunting me now. It is making me feel guilty," she told him her honest feelings.

"But what wrong have you done, child. Why are you feeling guilty?" he asked, provoking her eyes.

"They were happy because the demon had joined their life. They loved her and because of me, the demon died. I am the reason for taking their happiness father. This is the second time I have snatched the happiness of that kind girl Anna." she replied as tears welled again in her eyes.

"Oh, so that's why the girl of your memories looked familiar to me. The girl has grown up beautifully." he shared with a smile, "and it was not your mistake even 7 years ago, and neither was it your mistake today." he reminded her "you could have done nothing."

"But I want to, father, I want to return their happiness to them," she replied determined, she would not let her guilt eat her more.

"What are you planning to do my child," he asked, but his eyes were telling her that he already knew.

"I am going to give Bella her life back" she replied with a determined face.
