The Bruno effect

He could hear a noise. The apparent humming of a woman, it sounded close-right next to him in fact. He couldn't open his eyes although he wanted to. He couldn't move, he felt glued in place. A boiling panic was bubbling in his chest, escalating. He felt the rise and fall of his chest and his eyes moving behind the lids. Then something touched him. His heart rate quickly escalated and he moved his neck from side to side. He couldn't speak, he found it hard to breathe as if there was a weight on his chest. It felt like a moment before an asthma attack, lungs slowly collapsing producing haggard breath.
