First game

Maria played and twisted her fingers in anxiousness as she waited with the rest of the Gryffindor team in the changing rooms. They were waiting for the ever familiar whistle from Mister Rivario so they could fly out on their brooms into the Quidditch field. Maria snapped out of her thoughts and to her horror it was because the captain had signaled them to mount their brooms.

She mounted her broom and clutched the polished wood till her knuckles turned white.

" You good Rowen?" Fleamont Potter asked from next to her. He and she had both made the team as chasers and it was their first game.

" I'm a little nervous," Maria admitted and Flemmen nodded in understanding. He opened his mouth to say something to her but was cut off by Mister Rivario's whistle. They all flew out and the Gryffindor house went wild, cheering and screaming in excitement for the house's pride and joy.

" AND HERE COMES THE PROUD LIONS IN RED AND GOLD, THE BRAVE, THE COURAGEOUS, GRYFFINDORS!!!!." the announcer said with their wand pressed against their throat to amplify their voice.

" AND WHO ARE THESE NEW FACES WE SEE, WHY THEY ARE FLEMMEN POTTER AND MARIA ROWEN." The announcer screamed, Maria waved nervously at the cheering crowd of Gryffindors and the people in the other houses who were rooting for them. Fleamont, on the other hand, was confidently flying around and showing off his flying with a proud smile. Her eyes searched the Slytherin stands and smiled when she was greeted with a heartwarming sight.

Her twin brothers, Orion and Apollo, were cheering at the top of their lungs for her, her eldest brother, Demetrius, was silently watching her with soft eyes, and Tom sat next to him. He gave her a small smile when their eyes met that filled Maria with renewed confidence. She hovered into position just as the Hufflepuffs flew out in a blur of yellow and black.

" AND HERE COMES THE BADGERS IN YELLOW AND BLACK, GIVE IT UP FOR THE HUFFLEPUFF!!" The announcer boomed as the students rooting for them cheered.

The two captains shook each other's hands with a competitive grip. They quickly got into position just as Mister Rivario let out a loud whistle and threw the Quaffle into the air. The chasers swooped into action as the seekers quickly rose to look out for the snitch.

Fleamont grabbed the quaffle in midair keeping it from reaching the Hufflepuff it was meant for. He tossed it to the captain but it was grabbed by another Hufflepuff chaser. They scored and made the hoop with a whoop of pride.

" 50 POINTS FOR HUFFLEPUFF." The announcer informed and continued to narrate the game. It came to a point where the score was 130 for the Hufflepuffs and 140 for the Gryffindors. Maria noticed the seekers had spotted the snitch and were now racing towards it. She had to do something and she had to do it fast.

As if Flemmen had read her mind, he quickly passed her the quaffle just as the Hufflepuff seeker had gained more distance towards the snitch than the Gryffindor Seeker. She raced to the goals without looking back and dodged the Hufflepuff chasers. Maria quickly shot the ball towards a hoop and closed her eyes, silently praying. The field went silent because the Hufflepuff seeker had also caught the snitch around the same time and now they were waiting to see who exactly had won.

Cheers erupted from the Gryffindor side, and Maria let out a sigh of relief. She pumped her fist in victory and joined in the roaring of the Gryffindors. She landed and her team surrounded her with rough pats on the back and praises. She laughed as her brothers yelled, " THAT'S OUR SISTER, WOOO." and nearly knocked into Professor Slughorn on their way down to the pitch.

There was a party held in the Gryffindor commons for the team where the rest of the people who were rooting for them celebrated the winning team. Maria immediately looked for Tom's dark brown hair and she found him leaned against a corner, hand crossed over his chest. The two met eyes, chocolate brown with dark brown, and Maria glomped him in a warm hug.

The two stood in each other's arms for a few minutes, not needing words to tell the other what they wanted to say. They already knew, they broke their hug when someone called for Maria but they never broke contact. And for all who saw their linked hands shared the same knowing smile.
