Chapter 3 A Dangerous Job

As they exited the fast food building Amber stared at Silver from his back and said "I can walk on my own if you want." Silver shook his head and said, "Not happening, you still look pretty hurt to me and I don't want you pushing yourself too hard." As they walked down the road Silver glanced around and said "I gotta make a quick stop I hope you don't mind."

Amber nodded and said "okay" In a worried voice. Silver began to walk through a park as he said "Luckily my work is in a somewhat safe place today." As Silver set Amber down on a bench he said "Do me a favor and wait there a minute." Amber nodded without saying anything as Silver smiled and said "Alright I gotta go now."

Once Silver was gone Amber clutched her new dress and began to cry as she said "I knew he was going to leave me." As Amber sat there she wiped her face and said "I shouldn't be crying, I knew this would happen." As Amber looked up into the sky she said "He probably just wants me to wait here with the false hope he gave me that he'd come back."

As Amber stood up she heard a gunshot not too far away from her that startled her to the point where she almost fell. Amber stared in the direction of the sound and seen people screaming and running towards her. After a few moments, there was another gunshot and Silver came running while holding his shoulder.

Silver glanced behind himself and seen two other men standing there aiming guns at him. Silver turned back around and picked Amber up with his unharmed arm holding her close to his chest. Amber glanced up at him without saying any word and slowly began to cry once again.

Silver continued to run as he glanced at her and said "I know these conditions aren't the best for a kid but do me a favor and hang in there." Amber held onto him and said, "You didn't abandon me?" Silver stared at her as he heard some more gunshots behind him as he said "Of course I didn't."

Silver glanced behind him and said, "I have a way to get away from these guys so hang on tightly." Amber nodded and held on even tighter as Silver smiled and said "I'll make it up to you once we get out of this mess." Amber shook her head while crying and said "You don't have to but please just don't leave me all alone."

As a bullet went past Silver's head he ran down an alleyway and said "Assuming we make it out of this alive I'll do my best to keep you company." Silver pulled some garbage from a pile causing it to collapse and block their path from the people that were shooting at them as Silver said "We should be okay for a bit but they'll be after me again in a few minutes."

Amber stared at him and asked, "What did you do to make them hate you?" Silver stared at her and said, "Well my job isn't exactly pleasant, let's just say they're after me for a very good reason." Amber stared at his injured shoulder and said "Your bleeding a lot." Silver smiled and said, "It's fine, I'll take care of it in a minute."

Silver tore a piece of his sleeve off and wrapped it around the bullet wound as he said "I don't have the time or the equipment to properly treat it right now so we should hurry up and go before they catch up to us."

Amber nodded and said, "I can walk on my own so you don't have to carry me." Silver picked her up and said, "Not an option, they'll be able to catch up to us if I just let you walk." Amber looked up at him and said "But your hurt too." Silver nodded and said, "Yeah but in this line of work I'm used to it."

As Silver began to run once again while carrying Amber he said "There's a place that's considered neutral ground for people like me, they won't let anyone enter that could cause their business harm so we should be fine."

As they arrived at a rather shady-looking building with broken glass and cracked brick walls Amber asked "Is this place actually safe?" Silver nodded and said, "Of course, I wouldn't bring you here if it wasn't." As the door swung open a man tossed another person out into the garbage and shouted "If you can't pay you can't stay!"

The man stared at Silver and said "Your back rather early, did you already finish your work?" Silver smiled and said "All taken care of but I have another little issue." The man stared at Amber and asked "What's up with the kid?" Amber glanced at the man with a scared look as Silver said "This is Amber "I picked her up today."

The man sighed and asked, "What are the others gonna think when they hear you brought a kid here?" Silver shrugged and said, "Doesn't really matter, does it?" The man pointed at him and said "Let me put it this way, you the white-haired reaper shows up out of the blue with a kid knowing you could die at antim-." Silver nodded and said, "Yeah I know, but still it looked like if I didn't do anything she would've been the one who could've died any minute."

The man shook his head and said "Never mind, just get your ass in here." Amber glanced at Silver and whispered, "This place seems dangerous." Silver shrugged and said, "Well I can't exactly stay in one place other than here for too long, so this is technically the safest place for us to stay."

As they entered they heard the people talking back and forth as Silver followed the man to a counter and sat down. The man pulled out a first aid kit from under the counter and said "You'll probably be needing this." Silver opened the first aid kit and said "Thanks."

As silver pulled out a bottle of hydrogen peroxide he unwrapped the gunshot and bit into the fabric while pouring the hydrogen peroxide onto his wound. As he let out a grunt of pain another man walked over to him and said "Hey Silver what's with the kid."

Silver began to wrap his injury once again but with a bandage this time as he said "It's just someone I picked up." The man stared at Amber and said "Well then hurry up and ditch her, we shouldn't have kids around here." Silver glared at him and said, "I'm not gonna ditch her."

The man instinctively backed away and nervously said "W-well of course not I was only joking." The man began to walk away as Silver asked the man behind the counter "So do you have any more work for me?" The man glanced at Amber and asked "What are you gonna do with the kid while you work?"

Silver shrugged and said, "Honestly I'm still trying to figure that out too, but if I just stop working my retirement will never happen." The man set a paper down in front of him and said "I'll add the funds to your account later for the work you did earlier, this next assignment just wants you to gather information."

Silver stared at the paper and said "You want me to just sneak inside of some rich guy's office and take some documents?" The man nodded and said, "The guy who requested this specifically said he wanted you to do this, it might be a set up so don't drop your guard for any reason."

Silver glanced at Amber and said, "Well the assignment isn't too hard but I'll have to figure something out so I don't put you in harm's way." Amber stared at him and said, "You don't need to worry about me." Silver reached back into the first aid kit and grabbed some cotton balls and tweezers as he said "Telling me not to worry isn't gonna stop me from worrying."

Silver dipped the hydrogen peroxide onto the Cotten ball he was holding with the tweezers and said "Now hold still this might hurt a bit." Amber stared at him nervously and said "Okay." As he pressed the Cotten ball against a small cut on her leg she let out a small scream of pain. As she made the sound Silver immediately asked "Are you okay?"

Amber covered her mouth and nodded in embarrassment as she said "Y-yeah I'm fine." Silver stared at her and said "Sorry but I'm gonna have to clean your other injuries too, so they don't get infected." Amber nodded and said, "Okay you can continue now, I'm ready." Silver stared intently at her legs and said "Okay here I go, just relax."
