"That's not enough for a reason, though."
Lily wasn't convinced by the presented argument and was a bit suspicious of Ron.
"For me, Miss Lily, it is good enough."
"By the way, what's your boss' name?"
In response to this, secretary Ron giggled like a little girl and confidently said,
"Prepare yourself, Miss Lily… you're going to be surprised!"
"I doubt it…"
Lily rolled her eyes, disliking the young man's sudden cheekiness. She let out a long sigh and impatiently awaited for him to spit it out.
"I work under Chan Hu."
"Chan Hu? Who's that?"
Ron gave her a look of disbelief but had to shift back his attention to the road.
"Miss Lily!" He shouted with a disheartened tone, "How can you not know Chan Hu? The Chan Hu?"
"The Chan Hu? What are you ta-"
She stopped mid-way and maintained a brief silence. Once she somewhat sorted her thoughts, the woman glanced at the still smirking Ron.
"You're talking about Chan Hu, the CEO of the 'Sign' Conglomerate? That famous tycoon? You're pulling my leg, right?"
"Absolutely not, miss Lily! How can I joke about something as important as this? My boss is really Chan Hu."
"Wait…" Lilly massaged her aching temples, trying to process what has been said, "You're telling me I'm going to marry Chan Hu? It sounds too absurd. Now I'm really suspecting you of being a scammer."
"I know how it sounds but I'm telling the truth!"
"Just because I've been reduced to this doesn't mean I'm stupid! I know how much Chan Hu detests women to the point that he refuses to marry or date anyone. There are even rumors of him being gay."
"Boss is definitely not gay! He's a bit awkward and difficult to understand but I'm certain he's into females, really! Believe me!"
"Awkward? Difficult to understand? The Chan Hu in the media is as cold as a block of ice. Anyone who displeases him gets fired, regardless of who they are."
"M-miss Lily, those are but rumors… hahaha"
Somehow, Ron's voice became quieter and no longer filled with confidence, indicating that what she said is true, or a part of it was, at least.
"Anyway, even if it's Chan Hu, you still have not explained why I have to marry him."
"Actually, my boss is being pressured by his parents to get married and they even presented him with a bunch of candidates, all vixens, in my point of view. Even if he suddenly marries someone they don't approve of, they'll have no choice but to relent."
"That's it?"
Lily wasn't satisfied by this slightly vague explanation, to which Ron added,
"There's also the problem with the boss' solitude and cold attitude. I thought that, maybe, if a woman were to be thrown into his life, he'll change for the better. He's so engrossed in work all day long and it's starting to affect his health."
"Wait wait… did he even approve of this?"
The answer she got was naught but silence as the secretary pretended he didn't hear her and focused on steering the wheel.
"Are you out of your mind? You want to throw me at him and expect him to go along with your plan?"
"He prefers easy and swift solutions and I believe this one is the best. He can choose to remain alone but he'll have to face his parents' pestering… so, are you in?"
Lily took sometime to think things through before replying,
"For now, I am. But, if things go downhill, I'm blaming everything on you."
Ron wryly smiled and nodded his head twice before taking his phone and messaging someone.
…
For the rest of the trip, the two didn't talk much, Lily asked random things about Chan Hu then delved into deep thought. Only when the car entered a rather famous district did she shift her attention outside.
The wide road was empty and the tall lamps on both sides provided enough illumination to see one's surroundings as well as give this place a unique atmosphere. The villas here were absurdly large and extravagantly decorated, from golden artificial fountains to breath-taking gardens filled with multi-colored flowers, which can even be seen in the middle of the night.
This district, called White Blossom District, is meant for the wealthiest people. Back in the day, her family did own a villa here but she wasn't sure if it's still the case or not.
Anyway, Ron drove for a couple more minutes before stopping in front of what seemed to be the biggest place here. The entrance of the villa was majestic and made Lily feel as if she shouldn't step inside, as if it's unfit for her, who was reduced to being homeless and penniless.
"My boss should be inside now." Said Ron prior to taking a deep breath.
"As I said before, don't talk too much and don't get close to him, that's it. Let me do the talking and I'll give you a signal so that you can introduce yourself."
…
Now that it's finally time to meet hil, Lily was a bit nervous but not afraid. She had nothing else to lose, which is why it went along Ron's plan. If this marriage is a success then there may still be hope for hers. Maybe she can even resume her career.
Ron took the lead, though, even he was not as calm as he looked. He had internal conflicts and dreaded the worst income.
The thick villa doors slowly opened and a luminous sight flashed before the woman. The ground was made of sturdy wood, cold resistant, so, the moment she stepped inside, a wave of warmth enveloped her body, making her shiver.
Ron motioned for her to maintain silence then walked forth. After entering, they headed left and walked just a bit before entering the massive living room.
The place was grand and well-decorated but it felt empty, filled with solitude.
Whilst Lily kept her mouth shut, Ron greeted a man sitting on the couch, wholly focused on reading a bunch of documents scattered on a short table just beside his knees.
It wasn't the first time that Lily saw Chan Hu, however, he looked much better than on TV. He was brimming with unfaltering masculinity, he was handsome from the depth of his eyes to the cold yet enchanting facial expression. His hair, as black as coal, was tousled, his eyes were a mesmerising deep ocean blue… his face was strong and defined, his features molded from granite.
Chan Hu wore a white business shirt, half of it unbuttoned, revealing part of his chest and adding more to the scene, which would move any woman's heart.
