Ana spent the next few days being ignored by Stiles which of course pulled Scott along too. She decided to focus solely on her school work in the mean time and get even further ahead before anything more crazy was happening. You see, Ana and her father knew that the Hales had left town and they were the only protecters of beacon hills. So her father used a little of his pursuasion and got it so she could start doing online high school classes in 8th grade and because of her ability to memorize and her super speed, she was nearly ready to graduate her his year. She then, with the help of her fathers super strong abilities, able to start doing a sort of running start. She wanted to become a teacher to try and help spot the supernatural students and help them know they were safe. But she would only have three classes with a teacher and the rest of her time was spent in the library where she would attend multiple classes. With the speed she had been going, she would be an assistant teacher during her senior year. Of course this was extremely unusual and raised MANY eyebrows but no one could say no to this route thanks to awesome vampire powers. She had been sitting in the library after classes had ended when she got a call from Scott. She quickly answered, her nerves jumping at the sight of his contact.
"Scott! What's going on?" She spoke quickly.
"I... I need your help. Derek thinks Deaton is the alpha and I have to go tell Stiles my idea but I'm picking you up first. Are you at the school?" Scott was almost yelling into the phone causing Ana to wince slightly.
"Um yeah... I'm still here. I'll walk to the front and make it quick and easy for you." She replied, gathering her things before logging out and turning off her computer. She tossed her back pack over her shoulder, running to the main entrance and hung up the phone as she saw Scott pull in. She quickly got in and set her back pack on the floor in front of her.
"So... when we get to Stiles's house... would you stay in the car? I need to deal with Stiles before he starts something." Scott paused before glancing over at her. "I just want to ask you something. Do you really know more than you are telling me?" Ana hesitated.
"Yes, Scott, I do." She answered. She knew he was trying to detect lies in her statements. While she didn't have a heartbeat... it was almost like they could hear it in her voice.
"And are you really not telling us to protect us?" Scott watched her even more intently.
"Everything I do and say, or keep from you guys is for your own safety." She answered his question causing Scott to nod.
"I trust you. Now I just need to convince Stiles so we can hopefully end our problems with the Alpha." The rest of the ride was quiet but it wasn't awkward until Scott pulled into Stiles's drive way. She quickly grabbed her bottle of blood and chugged some. Scott gave her a sympathetic smile before getting out and running to Stiles. She sat there taking swigs for a few minutes. When she finally saw Stiles exit the house he waved her over to his Jeep. She quickly grabbed her bottle and phone before getting out and into his Jeep.
"So... you're really trying to keep us safe?" He asked looking away from her.
"Yes, Stiles. All I want is to know that you two are as safe as you can be. I don't think I could survive if I lost either of you. I'm sorry that I've upset you with all this but know it's because I love you both." She explained. Stiles nodded, looking back at her.
"I um... I trust you." He said before Scott jumped into the suv.
"Okay, great job, and I love you guys but we kind of have something we need to deal with." Scott's voice had a sense of urgency, which then got Stiles to speed all the way back to the school. They all quickly jumped out, Stiles groaning.
"This is a terrible idea." Scott gave him a look.
"I know." He replied.
"And we're still going to do it." Stiles continued.
"Can you think of something better?" He asked the other teen boy.
"Personally I'm a big fan of ignoring a problem and hoping it goes away." Stiles joked, but Scott already seemed frustrated.
"Just make sure we can get inside." Scott asked. Ana walked away from the two and headed straight to Derek.
"So.. they trust you again?" He asked.
"Yeah but it took some time. I'm still not sure Stiles is entirely there with me but at least he knows I wasn't lying." She shrugged.
"Do you think it will be safe for you to be here if the alpha knows what you are?" Derek asked the question that had been staying in the back of her mind the whole car ride.
"I don't think so. But I need to help." She sighed before trying to cover up her fear when Stiles and Scott walked over.
"Where's my boss?" Scott asked Derek. Ana looked at Derek oddly.
"In the back." Sure enough, all the teens looked and there was Deaton laying unconscious in the backseat of Dereks car. Ana let out a soft gasp at the sight.
"He looks comfortable." Stiles remarked. Scott motioned for Ana to follow them into the school.
"Where are you going?" Derek asked.
"You said I'm linked with the alpha... I'm going to see if you're right." Scott said before pulling Ana along. The three snuck their way into the main office and found the intercom.
"One question: What are you going to do if the Alpha doesn't show up?" Stiles asked Scott.
"I don't know." He shrugged.
"What are you going to do if the Alpha does show up?" Stiles asked Scott again.
"I don't know" Scott shrugged once more.
"Good plan." Both Ana and Stiles remarked.
"You told me a wolf howls to signal its position to the rest of the pack. Right?" Scott asked Stiles but a look of slight fear washed over Stiles and Ana's face.
"But if you bring him here, does that make you part of his pack?" Stiles asked.
"I hope not." Ana sighed. Scott then pulled the microphone up to his mouth, took a deep breathe and pressed the button to start actually recording his voice and let out a pathetic howl. Both Ana and Stiles cringed at the sound. Scott released the button before looking at his two best friends.
"Was that okay? That was a howl. Right?" Scott asked after seeing their reaction.
"I mean... technically it was." Ana cringed.
"Well what did it sound like to you?" Scott seemed nervous, letting his brain control his actions and especially overthinking the howl.
"Like a cat being choked to death." Stiles groaned, rubbing his face slightly.
"Well, what do I do? How am I supposed to do this?" He immediately panicked.
"Scott, you're overthinking." Ana started before Stiles walked over to the other side of the counter.
"You're calling the alpha. Be a man. Be a werewolf. Not a teen wolf. A werewolf." Stiles said with his hands on Scott's shoulders. Ana smiled. They were starting to get the hang of it. Scott nodded, grabbed the microphone and let out a powerful howl, that shook everything in the building. As soon as he finished, Stiles and Ana high fives him, proud he had finally done it. The three then walked back to where Derek was with Deaton, to see that while Derek was impressed, he was definitely not happy about the attention it would bring.
"I'm going to kill the three of you. What were you trying to do, attract the whole state to the school?" Derek said as soon as he saw the three teenagers.
"I didn't think it would be that loud." Scott said, clearly proud of his achievement.
"It was loud, and it was awesome!" Stiles cheered.
"What did you do to him?" Scott yelled now pulling everyone's attention to Dereks Camaro. The saw the door open and Deaton gone.
"I didn't do anything..." Derek started to defend himself before being stabbed and lifted into the air by the Alpha. The three screamed before running straight into the building and trying to hold the doors closed.
"Lock it, Lock it!" Scott yelled. Stiles groaned looking at him.
"Do we look like we have a key?"
"Grab something-" Scott started before Ana looked out the door, catching what Stiles was already thinking. She looked over to him quickly.
"I'll go out and grab them. I'm the fastest out of all of us and he won't be able to injure me nearly as bad as he could do to you." She reasoned with them.
"Wait, Ana. No-" Scott tried before Ana pulled open the door and quickly moved toward the bolt cutters when she smelled Dereks blood... but a lack of body. He had either moved or been moved. She broke out of her trance upon hearing Scott yell her name. She grabbed the cutters and ran back into the building. She handed them to Scott, who joked them on the doors. She followed the boys running into a classroom hiding out. She continued to try and smell and see if she could find out where Derek could have gone. She was brought back to reality upon Stiles's battery being thrown through the window above her. She had instinctively tried to cover Stiles as it happened, knowing it would be the worst for him.
"That's my battery." Stiles muttered. Scott and Ana nodded. Stiles then went to quickly move but is stopped by Scott.
"Don't" Scott whispered.
"We have to move." Stiles argued.
"He could be right outside." Scott whisper yelled back.
"He is right outside." Scott kept holding Stiles down before sighing.
"Just let me look." Scott looked up glancing out of the window.
"Anything?" Ana asked. Scott shook his head.
"Move now?" Stiles asked.
"Move now." Scott whispered. The three made their way into the hall when Ana smelled a faint hint of something that burned her nose. She tried to figure it out but nothing could come to mind. She quickly followed the boys into the locker room. They quickly closed the door, the boys gasping for air.
"Call your dad." Scott said. Both Ana and Stiles looked at him like he was crazy.
"What?" Stiles asked.
"Call. Your. Dad." Scott said once more.
"And tell him what?" Ana asked, looking directly at Scott.
"Anything. There's a gas leak, a fire, whatever. If that thing sees the parking lot filled with police cars, it'll take off." Scott explained his plan only for Stiles to look at him in disbelief.
"What if it doesn't? What if it goes completely Terminator and kills every cop in sight including my dad?" Stiles questioned.
"They have guns." Was Scott's only response causing Ana to roll her eyes.
"And Derek had to be shot with a wolfsbane laced bullet to even slow him down. Remember that?" Stiles was firing off questions even faster now.
"Then we have to... Then we have to find a way out of here and make a run for it." Scott answered.
"There's nothing near the school for half a mile." Stiles shut down the idea.
"What about Dereks car?" Ana mentioned.
"That could work. We go out. Grab the keys from his body. Take his car." Stiles nodded.
"And him." Scott interjected.
"Fine, whatever." Stiles spoke before going to leave the room, when Scott stopped him. "What?"
"I think I heard something." Scott answered.
"Like what? Do you smell anything?" Stiles asked.
"No uh, something is messing with the air... it's almost burning my nose." Ana answered before Scott pulled them away from the door.
"Quiet." There was a pause when they saw a shadow pass by the door. "Hide." The teens all hid in seperate lockers. A figure entered the room and went straight for Scott's locker. That's when she noticed it was the janitor who opened Scott's locker and quickly yelled in surprise.
"Son of a bitch!" Stiles stumbled out of his locker while Ana quietly snuck out of hers.
"Quiet- quiet." Scott tried to hush him but the janitor was having none of it.
"Quiet my ass! Are you trying to kill me?" The janitor yelled at him. "All of you, get out."
"Just listen for half a second, okay?" Stiles tried but the Janitor continued to push the three out.
"No! Not okay! Get the hell out of here! Right now!" The janitor yelled before being pulled back and pushed up against the now closed door, his blood smearing all over. While the burning smell was strong, the blood was just a little stronger. Without thinking Ana's fangs revealed themselves and her eyes turned almost dark. The three of them break out of their trance and start running as fast as they could. Ana unfortunately started to feel weaker and was stuck a little ways behind the boys. She was stuck on the floor, trying to ease the burning sensation that was now happening all over. Her head was spinning when Scott quickly grabbed her and pulled her down into another hallway. She was incredibly weak and could barely keep her eyes open. Scott carried her around, and when he set her down in the cafeteria, she got some slight relief. She had been strong enough to put away her fangs, and just in time because Allison and Mae both entered the room.
"Oh my god! Ana!" Mae yelled while Scott interrogated Allison. Mae quickly raced to the girl, holding her in her arms. "What happened are you okay?"
"Yeah, yeah I think there is something around here I'm allergic to. It's just mild, I swear I'll be okay. What are you doing here?" Ana asked her girlfriend.
"Well Allison got a text from Scott saying you and him wanted us to meet you both here. Was... was that not actually him?" She hesitated. Ana gave a weak nod.
"It... it wasn't him." She panted slightly.
"Ana, just try to take deep breaths. We should be out of here soon and then I can get you some Benadryl." Mae played with Ana's hair knowing she was probably in a lot of pain. Ana quickly senses the running and uses some of her only remaining energy to pull her and Mae away as soon as Scott yelled for them all to run. Mae pulled her over to a corner before helping Scott and the others.
"Okay, nice work. Beautiful job, everyone. Now what do you think we should do about the 20 foot wall of windows?" Stiles rolled his eyes, waving at the windows.
"Can someone please explain what is going on? I'm freaking out here and I'd at least like to know why." Allison panted, looking at the tree in front of her.
"Someone killed the janitor." Stiles said after a pause. Everyone let out a soft gasp.
"What?" Lydia asked.
"The janitors dead." Ana responded, but her voice was slightly rough and raw from the toxin in the air. Mae walked over, still worried about what had happened to her.
"What are they talking about? Is this a joke?" Allison asked, visibly panicking. Scott shook his head in response.
"Who killed him?" Jackson asked. The three friends looked back and forth between each other.
"No no no, this was supposed to be over. The mountain lion-" Lydia started to panic before being cut off by Jackson.
"Don't you get it! That wasn't a mountain lion!" He yelled.
"Who was it? What does he want?" Allison asked the three. Both Ana and Stiles looked to Scott for help answering the question. "What's happening? Scott?"
"I don't know- it's just- if we go out there, he's going to kill us." Scott said. Ana tried to stay active in the conversation but the scent seemed to have gotten stronger. Her body started to feel like it was burning. She grabbed onto Mae's arm, groaning from the pain.
"Hey, hey, hey. Just stay with me okay. We are going to get you help as soon as possible." Mae whispered, holding her head to her chest. Mae started to sniff the air, starting to smell it herself only to automatically know what it was that was hurting her girlfriend... vervain. The others didn't seem to notice, probably thinking it was some sort of cleaning product but she knew it very well. Her grandmother grew her own vervain to be safe. That's when the realization hit her, Ana was a vampire. It all made sense now. She couldn't react until they were alone so she tried to mask her emotions. Ana looked at her face and saw her thinking and focused on something but brushed it off, she couldn't focus with the pain she was going through. She waved Stiles over, breaking his conversation with Scott.
"Stiles, I, come closer," Ana pulled his ear to her mouth, trying to keep Mae from hearing. "It's getting worse, I don't know how much longer I can hold back the fangs and eyes. We need to figure out what's happening and fast." Stiles walked back to the group and argued with the rest of them.
"Ana, you can explain everything to me later but I know what you are, and I know what's happening to you. Just put your head towards me and you can relax and save your energy. Just... show me your fangs and eyes. I trust you." Mae whispered. Ana's eyes widened but she couldn't argue. She quickly relaxed and felt had fangs extending and her vision became infrared. Mae let out a gasp but continued to hold Ana, trying to keep her calm.
"Oh God, oh my god!" Lydia yelled capturing their attention. The doors were started long to burst in.
"The kitchen! The door out of the kitchen leads to the stairwell." Stiles told the group hurriedly.
"Which only goes up." Scott pointed out.
"Up is better than here." Stiles replied. He made sure the group started running for the stairs, trying to keep their eyes off Ana as they did so. Mae and Ana ran as fast as they could with the group. The seven teenagers ran into the chemistry classroom, Scott quickly pushing the teachers chair under the handle of the door to lock it. Mae pulled Ana to the wall away from the group, keeping her face away from them still. They could hear the loud thumping from the Alpha running up the stairs and passing the classroom. After a few moments the alpha left and everyone let out a sigh of relief. Ana winced, letting out a hiss as the group once again tried to think of a new escape route. Ana tried to listen but Mae kept the focus on her.
"Relax, focus on my breathing, or my heartbeat. Something... anything, just stay awake." Mae started to cry. Ana focused on Mae's rapid and anxious heartbeat, felling as if it had been hours. Ana's attention had been pulled away when Allison yelled and pleaded for Scott to stay in the room. Mae quickly pulled her attention back to her.
"Please just stay with me, okay?" Mae cried. Black stuff started dripping slowly from her nose, which made both panic.
"Get Stiles over here, please." She whispered. Mae nodded, she kept Ana's face to her, making sure the others wouldn't see.
"Stiles! Get over here." A tear rolled down Mae's cheek. Everyone's attention turned and while they couldn't see how truly bad it was, they could see her hand was limp and she tried so hard to move it but she was too weak. Allison and Lydia gasped at the sight. Stiles had them all look away before rushing over and sitting in front of Mae. Mae let him see Ana's face and he gasped and tried to hold everything in.
"You need to call my mom, okay? She will have my... epi-pen. I don't have much time before I uh- well... I just wanted to say that I love you so much and I truly don't have an idea what I would do without you or Scott." She whispered. Stiles placed a light kiss to her forehead and noticed to call her mother. Mae quickly went back to how she had been holding her. Stiles quickly pressed her contact and waited for an answer but received nothing, having gone to voicemail. He decided to leave a message.
"Hey uh... it's Stiles. Um we were somehow locked in the school and it's getting... uh it's not good and I'm... Ana she's... she's having an allergic reaction to something in the air in here. Please call me back or just get here. I uh... it's really bad." He whispered, a tear rolling down his cheek. A loud roar was then heard which caused more alarm to Mae, Ana, and Stiles. The two then watched Jackson drop to the ground clutching the back of his neck. Stiles quickly got confused but once he saw Jackson's neck, it all made sense. Ana started coughing more black stuff. They heard Scott out side the door, Ana hearing him break the key into the door before running away. A few seconds later a vial was rolled under the door that said Ana on it. Stiles quickly grabbed it and ran over to Mae and Ana. Then the sirens could be heard and most everyone sighed in relief.
"Ana this was rolled under the door, is it safe for you, will it help?" Stiles asked. Ana looked at the vial seeing a Celtic symbol written under her name.
"Yes, it is." She whispered before grabbing it but realized she was too weak to open it, she handed it to Stiles who quickly pulled off the top. He handed her the vial and she quickly drank the liquid. It started working within seconds, there was no more black liquid running down her face and she was able to put away her fangs and dark eyes. She pointed for Stiles to grab her a water bottle that was left at the teachers desk and to grab the tissues. She quickly cleaned off her face so the group wouldn't be suspicious.
"Okay, I'm going to be alright, now we just need to-" she started before she was cut off by the window breaking. The cops had arrived and saw the group stuck in the classroom and the quickly pulled out some of the Matt's that were in the gym and placing them where the kids would land. One by one, each jumped out of the window with Ana being the last. By her turn, she had enough energy to stand. She jumped down and the sheriff pulled her into a hug.
"I'm so glad you all are okay." He whispered. Stiles had run over seeing Scott. The two separated and then the sheriff went back to his job. Ana ran over to him and pulled him tightly into a hug. She knew what had really happened and how much it was going to have an effect on him.
"Oh my god, you're normal again." Scott whispered, holding onto her tightly.
"Yeah, someone knew and got me the antidote. The alpha poisoned me by putting vervain into the air ducts. It wouldn't have really affected you due to the lack of vampireness but, I'm lucky cause I would have been dead if we didn't get it when we did." She explained to them and slight shock was written all over their faces. "I just... I need to go home, I need rest and I'm hungry and unfortunately most everyone cut themselves on the broken window." She said before realizing she still had a little bit left in Stiles's Jeep. She ran over, grabbing her bag and such before the sheriff walked over.
"Hey Ana, I called your mom and she's heading home. I'm going to have a deputy take you three home okay. Get some rest." He gave her a light hug and she nodded. She followed the deputy he pointed to and got in his cruiser, smiling at the fact she got shot gun and the boys would have to sit in the back. She waited for them, taking drinks from her water bottle. The two finally joined her and they were headed home. The deputy was going to drop off Scott first but the two insisted that Ana be the first. Once they arrived she quickly said her thank you's and goodbyes and entered her house. She was too exhausted to do anything so she just sat on her bed and fell asleep within an instant.
