Dinner followed by a revelation

Edward's pov

I tried to move on but I just couldn't stop thinking about Jay so as soon as I got back, I decided to just walk up to him and confront him about it. As I was pulling over, I noticed him with his child, if he is hanging out with his kid at his home that means his parents are aware about it and I am not!? My furiousness temped down a little when I recognised the child (It's the same kid from the accident other day). This couldn't have gone any more when Kayleigh showed up, How could the people I cared about the most even think of doing something like that to me? I was pretty much convinced that she had a secret affair with him. After getting to senses from the punches thrown my way, I finally started to get the clear picture. I want answers from her but I can't really interrogate her in front of Jay's parents, I'll wait for the dinner to get over and I'll make her confess everything to me; How she even do that to me? She can't just storm in and out of my life whenever or however she pleases!

I observed her from a distance as she chatted with Jay's mom while Jay and I sat by the fire place sipping scotch. I was busy lost in her thoughts when Jay muttered, "Stop gawking at her like that, my mom will know that there is something wrong going in here." I answered him lying, "I wasn't gawking, I was just thinking about something!" Jay raised his hand in the air and placing his glass on the table before speaking, "Look I know this very difficult for you, but give her some time and please hear her out. She deserves all good things and nothing else especially after what she has been through!" I took that as opportunity to ask him the question which has been eating me up alive, "So did you know about this all the time?" He shook his head taking another sip of his drink, "Beth and I learned about it on the eve of Pats'!" I opened my mouth to speak but he cut me off, "She didn't want you to know about it, but I would say before you make any rash decisions please hear her out. I didn't tell you about it because it wasn't my place to tell you!" I nodded and, by the time we finished our drink, dinner was being served so we all made our way to the dinning room. She sat right across me talking to everyone but me while completely avoiding any eye contacts with me. Jay's parents might have noticed the tension clouded in the room so they only made light conversation with each other and occasionally asking Kayleigh some questions. I wasn't really paying any attention on what they were talking, my gazed kept on lingering on her as I tried to study her. She definitely looked way more beautiful now, I can't believe she has become even more beautiful after giving birth but that fact doesn't make me any less mad at her 'How can she not tell me that she was pregnant with my child? Did she not trust me enough? was I so bad to her?'. I can't wait to get over with dinner so I can confront her about it, if that daughter is mine I will fight tooth and nail for her if I have to for both of them.

After the dinner as we walked out of the dinning room, Jay's mother pulled her away from us. I wonder what they spoke about which made all the colours drain from her face! Meanwhile his father declared that they were tired hence will be retiring to bed early and excused themselves.

Jay looked between us as he declared, "Guys lets go to the study, follow me!" We took stairs to follow him to the study while I noticed Kay fidgeting with her locket, she always does it when she is scared. As we got in the study, Jay locked the door behind us so no one can barge in and settled himself on a couch in the corner of the room. I was looking at Kay while she was looking on the ground still fidgeting, Jay spoke but I didn't turn towards him and Kay was looking at him, "Edward and Kayleigh you both can talk to each other about whatever you want! but remember I am not leaving the room." I turned to look at Jay wondering why he is not willing to give us privacy, he spoke again looking directly in my eyes and talking to Kay, "Kay, I am not going to leave you alone this time. Remember whatever you decide I am and I will always be by your side!" He looked towards her while she gave him a curt nod. I directed her towards the study table, "Why don't we have a sit!" After we sat down, I studied her while she looked at her feet and fidgeting with the necklace. I asked in fear "Is she my daughter?" She looked at me with sad eyes as she nodded. I released a breath to control my anger before asking her, "What did you name her?" She answered without looking up this time, "Haley Joanne Stevens-Raines" I felt a little relieved knowing she at-least gave her my last name, "Kay, look up. I want you to look in my eyes while you answer!" As she looked up tears were visible in her eyes, "Where you running away from me? Where you trying to hide my daughter from me?" She gulped before speaking with her new found confidence, "Yes, I was running away from you. Also just to make things clear, she might be biologically your daughter but you are not her father!" She put on a brave face but I can tell she was shivering on the inside as she continued speaking, "I ran away from you because I loved you at that point of time and you didn't love me back. Heck you were not even a nice person, you would have never been the father she deserves at that point of time so I didn't see any point of telling you!" I tried my best to control my anger, I got up from my seat blocking her in the chair and bend towards her. I clenched my teeth, "What kind of mother are you! Who hides a daughter from her father? Don't you think I deserved to know about her and be part of her life?" Tears threatened to fall from her eyes making my anger melt so I sat back on the chair as I sighed in regret.
