// THIS IS AN OLD CHAPTER. THE NEW CHAPTERS ARE IN VOLUME 2. YOU CAN READ THESE CHAPTERS IF YOU WANT SOME INSIGHT ON WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN LATER BUT SOME EVENTS CAN BE DIFFERENT BETWEEN THE OLD AND NEW CHAPTERS.
Back home, I now have the opportunity to examine Emily's grimoire. At first, I don't understand how she manages to cast her spells. Some parts of the rituals she describes make sense, for example drawing power from star phenomena to strengthen a spell, we are taught something similar at Hogwarts. But everything else doesn't make sense, something about using fire energy or wishing for something?
It is still a theory, but I think their equivalent for our wands and the movements that we make with them are these kinds of prayers or wish. If I remember correctly in TVD, witches get their powers from nature, but Bonnie loses hers when she is abandoned by the spirits of her ancestors. Um, I'd have to find more grimoire to figure out how this all works, and hopefully I'll be able to cast these spells. "
In the meantime, I put it all in the back of a drawer. The stone and crystal won't be useful right now, but at least they're safe.
As I go down to the living room to wait for supper, my mother calls out to me at the bottom of the stairs.
"Sean, can you come two seconds? you got mail."
I join her in the kitchen where she hands me an envelope. On the front of the letter is the stamp of the Magical Congress of the United States of America. As a precaution, I cast some detection spell on the letter but other than a charm that warns the sender that the letter has been opened, I can't find anything else. I open the letter, which appears to come from the current president of MACUSA, Samuel G. Quahog. I expected a massive order or a meeting request to import our company to America but none of that. He just wants a personalized magiphone model by me, created from precious metals and gems. The rest of the letter contains only requests for the order.
"So, what does this letter say?"
"This is a request for a personalized magiphone from the president of MACUSA. He gives me full freedom on the materials as long as they are as luxurious as possible. My price will be his apparently."
"I don't like it Sean, a man like the president of MACUSA doesn't send a personal letter for so little, it's hiding something."
She's right, this story is really fishy, but I can't really refuse the request of such a powerful man especially when he decides to be so generous.
"I think you're right, but we can't really afford to refuse his request even if it looks weird."
"Well, it's up to you, I trust you. But if there's the slightest problem, don't forget you're not alone."
"Yes, mum. Well, I have work apparently. Can you bring me my meal in my room?"
"Oh no, you'll come and eat at the table like everyone else. Go now."
I go back to my room by climbing stairs four by four, if the president decides to be generous, I intend to make the most of it.
I think I'm going to go on a platinum case, this one will be painted black with an embossed MACUSA logo all in twenty-four carat gold. The crystal will not be a simple rock crystal like for a traditional magiphone but a piece of diamond worked to have the shape of a screen. The only thing that won't change will be the Muggle technology that will be inside.
I send the list of materials to an address marked in the letter with owls and go down to eat with the rest of the family.
The next morning around 10 am, two MACUSA agents are in front of my door. They hand me a package without saying anything and leave. It's a little creepy, but also cool, in the style of men in blacks or Agent Smith in Matrix. I close the door and get to work.
It will take me three more days to complete the magiphone because of the difficulty of transforming the materials, especially titanium and diamond. I hesitate to go directly to the MACUSA office in New York to deliver the order and get rid of this chore.
It's finally my father who accompanies me. We are both wearing a very vintage costume for the occasion.
When we enter the building, it is a veritable anthill that comes alive before our eyes. Everyone is running in all directions; memos are flying everywhere, and the noise is deafening.
We end up finding a receptionist available.
"Hello, welcome to the Magical Congress of the United States of America. What can I do for you?"
"Hello, my son is coming to deliver an order for the president. We have notified you of our arrival."
"One moment please." She starts rummaging through small index cards before pulling one. "Ah yes, here you are. We weren't expecting you anytime soon, you were only due to arrive at 2pm."
"It is 2 p.m." the receptionist looks surprised and looks at her watch to confirm what my father has just told her.
"Oh, what a fool I am. Time flies so quickly when you're having fun and working here at MACUSA is a real pleasure." She gives us a smile so tight that it looks like her jaw is going to snap in two. "But I'm not holding you any longer, it's on the top floor, the door at the end of the hall, you can't miss it." On this she hands us badges with our names where the word visitor is marked in bold just below.
We leave the receptionist to her work to line up in front of the elevator.
---------- POV Secretary ----------
I pick up the intercom.
"Sir, yes, they just arrived. I sent them to your office, everything is going as planned for now."
