It was a drafty November and the year was 2020 though not for much longer as the new year was fast approaching. I was standing in front of the British Museum Of Ancient Ancient Artifacts or the BMAAA for short, where I pretended to be in a very serious conversation with no one whatsoever on my phone. I knew I would have to go in eventually but no one said that I would have to go in immediately. Part of me wondered if I could possibly not go in and get away with it but Alas! I am not that lucky (I like the word "Alas"🙂).
"Are you planning on going in anytime soon" a deep male voice said behind me. I spun around kicking my foot out and successfully connecting with the person's male parts. The imposter groaned in pain and I swear, his groans were music to my ears. I stepped back to observe the imposter and was met with the sight of the sight of the man who got me into this mess in the first place, hunched over clutching his family jewels, My brother ladies and gents! Wait a nanosecond, I JUST KICKED MY OWN BROTHER IN HIS TWIG AND BRANCHES AND I DON"T REGRET IT. I sauntered over to my brother and helped him to stand up. Well, I tried to anyway but it's really difficult when the person is rolling about muttering profanities whiles clutching his family jewels.
As soon as he composed himself, my brother Alvaro scowled at me, "Dory" he said "I know you're displeased that I blackmailed you into organising the Egyptian Artifacts auction but there's no need to take it out on my man parts?" I said nothing and gave him a you-deserved-it look. Bet you want to know what he blackmailed me with.
See, I was the biggest history nerd ever but one day at fifteen years old, I did something real stupid and got myself a boyfriend. Obviously, I didn't tell my dad cause my dad practically invented the word overprotective and would probably be really pissed even thought it's been eight years but somehow my brother dearest found out and has been blackmailing me with it for years.
Alvaro sighed and started climbing up the stairs of the hell house- oops, I meant the BMAAA. This day can't get any worse I thought but oh how wrong I was. Alvaro knocked on the door to the museum and the person that opened it was my father?!
See, my father was a good father and all and an excellent archeologist but he wasn't the most attentive person. He sometimes went away for months on end because of his job so I rarely saw him when I was little. I admire my mom a lot cause she put up with it for nineteen years before she divorced him the day after my seventeenth birthday and also, their nineteenth anniversary. She did try dropping subtle hints that she wanted them to spend more time together whenever he was home but either he ignored her or was completely oblivious, I'm betting on the latter.
I think my mom got tired of his bullshit and started to give up on him after that. I mean practically ignoring her was one thing but standing her up on their anniversary when he promised her a date was a bit too much. In fact,I am pretty certain he forgot. Long story short, mom decided to call him quits and emailed him divorce papers, brutal.
'At least mom's happy now' I think as I am startled out of my brief trip back to memory lane by the slam of a door. "Whare did dad go" I ask Alvaro as I realise that we are alone once more and standing at what looks foyer . "He had a couple of thinks to take care of" Alvaro answers as he heads toward a glass display box in the middle of the room that I had not noticed. I stepped closer to the glass case and realised that there was something inside. Upon closer inspection, I gasped, because lying inside the glass case was the real genuine Eye Of Horus also known as Udjat and it was beautiful.
"Cosa hermosa no es" my brother asked with a smile on his face
"Indeed hermano" I replied, glancing at him before turning my attention back to the Udjat. I stared at it and as strange as this may sound, it seemed as if the Eye of Horus was beckoning to me. I took a step towards it. I could no longer control my actions as it felt like I was in a daze, forced to move towards the Eye ov Horus. "Sister" my brother said, breaking me out of my peculiar attraction to the artifact. "Perdóneme, I have to take this call" he continued.
I nodded my approval and as he exited, my gaze was once again drawn to the Eye of Horus. I slowly moved towards it until I was close enough to touch it. Just one touch I thought as I slowly removed the Udjat from it's glass case. I expected alarms to start blaring and withheld a sigh of relief when all remained quiet. I gazed at the Udjat and almost mechanically, fastened it around my neck. Immediately the Eye of Horus started to glow, softly at first then brighter and brighter.
The room started to spin around me. I stumbled, knocking the glass case to the floor. I realised that I could no longer see the foyer as I seemed to be surrounded with a golden mist that seemed to be alive as it warped in all directions. It seemed to go on forever but then everything seemed to freeze. Suddenly I felt like I was falling and falling... Splash! I wasn't falling anymore I thought but I sure can't breathe.
I pried my eyes open as I had shut them sometime when I felt like I was falling. I realised that the blue hue that surrounded me was water and I couldn't swim. I struggled to try and keep my head above water but failed as I was soon dragged back into the clutching tentacles of water.
I am most definitely not in Spain
I thought then, darkness
