I WILL BE THEIR NIGHTMARE

ROSABELLA'S POV

The water was quiet.

Raging silently, as the waves tried to hit the rocks, but failed.

It reminded me of myself.

The way I tried so hard to fight against these barriers that were placed around me, but I still failed.

I may have protected the majority of the Lormeians from a cruel death, but I couldn't protect those fifty six poor souls.

There was always going to be a part of me that would blame me for all the people I didn't save.

I usually came to the Eastern forest to take my mind off things. I almost decided against it, because of my wound and the possibility of it catching an infection of any sorts.

But I almost couldn't help myself.

I hadn't been here since a long time, and the thought of being here began to comfort me on its own.

I remember sitting by the river, staring at the rocks while deers came by to drink a little water.

They usually got scared in the beginning and looked hesitant to come by, but once they knew I wasn't a threat, they came by really quickly.

"Why?"

I whispered.

The last time i came here, my hands were tainted with the blood of parents.

And this time, it was the blood of fifty six other people.

"Why!?", I yelled.

I couldn't help but let a few tears out.

It was difficult.

Really, really difficult.

"Why me?"

My voice dipped a little. My legs gave up as I fell to the muddy ground. Probably dirtying my black gown.

"Why the fuck is it always me?"

My voice tore through the cold atmosphere.

I wanted to marry Hale and end up with him, but I couldn't. I lost it with my own hands,

I wanted to be a good queen and protect my people, but I failed.

I wanted to raise a child, give them everything my parents gave me and even more, and I lost that too.

Why couldn't I have my happy ending, just one.

Screams continued to leave my mouth until the point that I forgot they were my own screams.

My voice felt sore and my head hurt.

Once I managed to calm myself down, even a little bit, I landed on a horrifying realization.

I was at crossroads.

Once again, I was at the same crossroads.

It was either my own kingdom, or Hale.

I had to choose, and I would get hurt either way.

There was no way out this time too.

A soft gasp left my mouth, as my pain intensified.

I guess the effect of the potion I had taken was slowly fading.

My mind knew what the right choice was, but it still hurt to make my heart realize that.

I knew I was always going to choose my kingdom. My people. Over anyone else.

Over the man I love.

And even over myself.

I sighed. I knew I needed to be back at the castle soon, since the court I had scheduled starts in an hour.

It was a shame, really.

It was a shame how life made me choose everything over him. But I guess the Hale that I met a few weeks ago is no longer the Hale I loved.

And even though, I don't know what made him change this drastically, I knew there was no coming back for him.

I could easily sense the darkness in his heart. It wasn't the intentional kind. The one that people who opt for black magic have.

No, it was more of the inflicted kind, which he chose to carry.

And there was no coming back from a heart that had grown that cold.

I remember pondering that night, about how I could sense that darkness.

It wasn't my magical power. I ended up settling on the idea that it was probably just my gut instinct and nothing more.

Once I was back at the palace, I quickly made my way to the court. I didn't want to be any later than the time I had scheduled. I hadn't been to my chamber in a week.

I made a mental note to visit my maids once the court is adjourned, as I sat on my throne.

Most of the council members and other ministers were already here.

When Scott looked towards me, I nodded for him to address the court.

"We are gathered here at the command of Her Majesty. After the sudden attack that took place four days ago, she would like to announce a few important details."

I cleared my throat and scanned the room once again, before beginning.

"I am glad to see the entire of my council safe. The attack that took place recently may not be the first this castle has witnessed but it was the first one I did."

I paused, waiting for everyone to take in what I had just said.

"As I was speaking, we still don't know who the rebels were or the main cause behind their attack. The Mortales would be my first speculation. Being our enemies since the beginning of time, I cannot think of anyone who would want to cause a havoc in our peaceful routine. Especially with the annual ball coming in three days.

I believe that it is our duty and responsibility to fight everything that comes to obstruct our success.

We have to fight for our kingdom.

We have to fight for our families

And lastly, we have to fight for all the kind souls that we lost.

The Mortales might have thought that this attack could not be at a worst time for us due to the ball. Well, let's use this timing to our benefits. Each and every one of us are going to be wearing recorders at the ball. I will personally ask the best of the best wizards to create recorders that could catch noises from miles away. This way, anything they speak carelessly at the ball, we can carefully take benefit off of it.

There will also be high tech cameras surrounding the entire area of the ball to capture any suspicious movements.

If it were to be in my hands, I would have sent a counter attack with our best soldiers today. But that would be hasty. And I need solid evidence before I let the Lormeians get their hands dirty.

But rest assured, your Queen won't sit silently. We will fight, and we will attack even more fiercely.

I am coming for all the monsters that ever touched my kingdom.

I am coming for all the ones who twisted our stars into shadows,

They turned our peace into a nightmare,

So I am going to be theirs.

They will lose their sleep just like we lost those fifty six souls."

Edward stood up from his seat and applauded loudly.

His eyes clearly shining with pride.

He was followed with a few other ministers and councilmen.

In about thirty seconds the entire court had stood up and was applauding.

My heart warmed up at the response I got from them.

"GOD BLESS OUR QUEEN!"

"GOD BLESS OUR QUEEN!"

"GOD BLESS OUR QUEEN!"

My dark cheeks usually reddened, but I was sure that I was blushing furiously from their appreciation.

But a part of me wondered whether it was actually their reaction or the way Edward was looking at me that made me react this way.

"GOD BLESS OUR QUEEN!"

"GOD BLESS OUR QUEEN!"

"Alright then. The court has been adjourned."

I got off from my throne and gathered the drapes of my gown while stepping down.

They continued to chant, while I tried to keep a confident face on. Even when a part of me was squealing like a little girl on the inside.

"GOD BLESS OUR QUEEN!"

"GOD BLESS OUR QUEEN!"

"GOD BLESS OUR QUEEN!"

My head was high but my heart was still down.

I almost felt like I had to kill a part of me to announce that I was going to bring down Hale's kingdom.

It's okay, I told myself.

You had to do it, I tried to convince myself.

You had to do it, I begged my heart to forgive me.

The walk back to my chamber was quick and short. It was mostly because I wanted to check over my maids and see if they were safe.

I took in a deep breath, and walked into my chamber. Glad to be back in the room I had begun to call my home.

But my mind went blank the second I stepped in.

I wanted to scream.

I wanted to yell at the sight.

But for some reason, I just stood there.

Staring.

There laid Colin.

The guard that had protected me.

In a pool of his own blood. With a note placed roughly on his chest.

A whimper left my mouth as I stared at his lifeless eyes.

Another gasp left my mouth at the note. Was this for real?

It was.

I knew it was.

Because I knew those handwriting. I knew them. The handwriting that read, "We are coming."

They belonged to Hale.
