Below her Greta could see her new kingdom has grown over the past few months. Even with the radio signal stopped people continued to come. Her people spread the word while out on missions to gather filters and things they couldn't produce themselves within their dome. Which was mostly things that required factories to make and distribute.
The one person that caught her attention the most was a man that came looking clean shaven and wore a suit. He seemed to not be there to live like the others, but instead seemed to be looking around at everything. He occasionally wrote in a notebook about what he saw she assumed. Her assumption is that he is either from what was left of the government or from the nationalist party. Everybody had their dream leaders ever since the virus arrived. He needed to go or to be spoken too about his intentions.
As far as she knew about the state of everything in the country. Her settlement was the only one where people could move without masks outside their homes. That would obviously make her a target and she knew it, but she had no intention of letting anyone take that from her. No one was bringing their filth and greed into her home if she could do anything about it. She had men following the person tasked to report back to her when they found something suspicious going on.
A week went by before any information was brought back to her. She was told that he was communicating with Berlin through radio talking about what he had seen or heard from being within the village itself. This wasn't something that sat well with Greta or anyone that lived in the village. That night a fire broke out in the home that the man was using while it was surrounded by six people dressed in robes and masks in the image of the widely accepted image of Beowulf. They each held a pistol in one hand and a sword in the other. Greta looked down over the event knowing what was going on, and knowing why it was happening.
Everyone knew that him being here was a threat to everything they had built. He couldn't be allowed to continue speaking to people outside of their village. They stood outside of his house waiting for him to come out in retaliation, but she knew he wasn't inside. She had invited him to dinner hoping that he wouldn't die in the fire. She just wanted him to lose all of his equipment in the fire. Not everything had to include people dying in the pursuit of peace.
After the fire had died down to just a smoldering ash the man had been dismissed from her home. She could hear him screaming in rage when he found everything burned. He tried to get her to answer for it, but she refused to answer the door no matter how much he knocked on the door. She slept with a smile on her face as he continued to yell and knock all night. In her mind it was her home and no one else's.
The last words to go through her mind was "The old world is gone."
For the most part she was right about the old world being gone, but didn't realize that some places around the world had been trying to hold on. Places like Berlin, California, and Japan are fighting to stay the way they had been before the war had broken out. It is a losing battle if America was to be used as an example for the state of the world. Many nations fell apart causing people like Greta to see a chance to rise to power in what was left behind. This action will mark the moment where Greta notices the power she can have over people and mark the expansion of what will come to be her imperial cult-like country.
