The dark street was exceptionally busy that night. A group of burglars had ransacked a billionaire's mansion. They got many priceless antiques and a large sum of money. The money was already parted between the gang. But the antiques had to be sold in buyable prices. The ransacking took place a month ago. But the burglars waited for the news of the burglary to come down from the top ten trending list online. That day there was a huge gathering of buyers from around the world. The burglars used trusted agents to sell their loot. They had to keep out from the police, of course.
The whole of the underworld was informed of the upcoming auction. Numerous businessesmen and mafia bosses had found their way into the dark alley. But for the people living in the dark peddling street the two bosses were most important. They held a special place in their hearts.
Louis and Edward walked into the street wearing formal suits and Oxford shoes. They looked less like the mafia but more like two accomplished businessmen. But everyone living in the street knew that they were the most dangerous men in the world. Many even suspected that they had the support of the mages. But, nothing can be considered true. These were just rumors after all.
But the actual fact is that Louis and Edward did have connections to the mages. Very strong ones at that. Those were old connections. The threads of those connections had become thinner by the years. They had left magic and that portion of the world years ago. They had decided that they were not to go back to their dark past. The darkest days of their life. The 30 years they spent with the mages were infact the most hateful days of their life.
Everyone bowed their heads at the sight of these two idols. Idols of the mafia. Some businessmen even went up to them to shake hands with their idols. Everyone knew them in one or the other way. Either they had been threatened by those idols or those threats had come true. Louis and Edward were known worldwide as emperors of the mafia.
They were two bodies and one soul. Always sticking together no matter what. No matter where. They were the best friends the world had ever seen. In the coldness of the mafia where no one trusted the other, these two emperors stood out and symbol of true trust and friendship. They were ruthless and never spared anyone who stood in their way.
Their small connections to the mages allowed them to grow more. Only the amount of connections were small. The people they were connected to were powerful. For instance the best mage in the world; Daniel Hogman. He was one of their best friends. The third member of their gang.
The two men walked toward the lane were the auction was held. They kept their heads high. Their steps sounded heavy. The arrival of the two mafia bosses were a great shock to the others. They knew that they couldn't buy anything that the emperors had set their eyes on. The emperors would make those theirs. That was sure. Whether they had to kill to gain something they would do that.
The auction started. The first product was an antique table made of ivory. The intricate carvings and implanted rubies and jadeites made it exquisite. The starting price was 10 Millions. Little by little the price increased and reached 28 Millions. Suddenly on of the emperors let out a devilish smile.
"30 Millions." They heard a deep and husky voice. It was the taller one. Edward.
The whole place went silent. No one dared to increase the price. Even if they did, they knew it was of no avail. They will get what they wanted. The ivory table went to Edward.
The next one was a mantle piece. It was made of pure gold with small priceless gems embedded here and there. The starting price was 15 Millions. The price increased upto 25 Millions. Then they heard another deep, dominant voice. "30 Millon Dollars." It was Louis. The shorter stouter one. There was no one who could dare oppose them.
The auction went smooth. Why wouldn't it? Everything was bought either by Louis or by Edward. Many businessmen even started gritting their teeth and started murmuring things. Edward heard one of them murmuring. He just gave that guy a cold glare. The guy shut his mouth the moment he saw Edward's eyes on him. This made the others shut their mouths too. Nobody dared to speak. They couldn't leave either. Leaving the spot then would have meant giving a contract to a shop owner to design an invitation card inviting the guy to hell. Hurting the emporers' feelings would only mean death.
The auctioners got a fair price for everything. They were pretty happy. Everything was paid readily. The two emperors' mood dulled the moment the auction was over. The fun was out. They had nothing to do. They thought of being pshycopaths and killing people mercilessly. But they dropped that idea because such a mass killing would tarnish their reputation. Tarnish! My God! Wasn't that reputation of theirs already tarnished? God knows what those two phsycos were thinking.
"Sir we have a clue." A man in his late twenties came over to the emperors.
The guy waited for a response. Louis was irritated with the guy's silence.
"Do you need an invitation to speak the rest?" Louis asked violently.
"S- Sir. I- Why won't we move aside and speak? T-This place is t-too c-c-crowded." The guy was clearly afraid of speaking.
"Yeah! OK... Let's go there." Louis pointed to a dark corner.
After reaching the corner, they made sure that no one was listening to them. "Speak!" Edward ordered.
The guy got even more scared at this.
"S-seems l-like t-they are a-at B-B-B-Benzua."
The mentioning of the place name made them both look grave.
"Mmm... You can go. And meet a doctor." He pulled out some money from his pocket.
"Why sir?"
"For stuttering. Of course."
The guy didn't speak a word afterwards and just left the place. He was relieved to get out of the grasp of two devils.
"So what do you think?" Louis asked.
"Let's go look for'em."
