Paige's Point of View ~

"Your what?" I asked. They were friends? What a coincidence.

"Cole Riley is the biggest dick you'll ever meet." He said in a serious tone. What happened between them? Maybe they got into a fight because Leo was moving away.

I wanted to ask what happened, but he'd probably ignore the question.

"He didn't seem like a dick, " I said. "I thought he was nice." I wasn't lying. He seemed to be good around kids and had a good sense of humor. I forced Leo to follow me into the bathroom. I looked carefully through the cabinets until I found the first-aid cabinet. Lily told me where everything was in case Maddie got hurt.

"You thought wrong." He said. Did Cole hurt him, or did he hurt Cole?

I took out antibiotic ointment and ripped open the white package. I honestly didn't know what I was doing, but I should at least try. My eyes landed on his cuts once again. The one on his cheekbone was deep and had dark red blood slowly dripping from it.

"What that is? I mean what is that?" Correcting himself, he slurred and chuckled. "Oopsies." He talked in a high pitched voice.

Um.

"Are you drunk?" I asked even though I knew he was. Why do people drink if they'll just turn out like this.

"No. I'm not drink." He slapped his hand against his mouth and snorted at his mistake.

"Leo, what happened?" I asked for the 3rd time. I'm surprised he even made it home considering how wasted he was. I wet a clean washcloth and wiped the blood off his face and collarbone. I started dabbing on the antibiotic ointment on the cheekbone cut when he spoke up.

"You need to stay away from him, Paige. He'll hurt you." He grabbed my wrist to stop me from touching his bloody face. I twisted my wrists to escape from his hands. Why does he care?

"Stop moving," I order him sternly and grab a bandage from the red bag. When peel off the package and slowly raised it up to his face and he stops himself from talking back. Sticking it onto his soft cheek he flinches and whines.

"Ow! Stop that!" He yelled.

"Shut up, you'll wake up Maddie!"

"La la la la la." Leo sang at the top of his voice. I never thought he'd be a goofy drunk, I would've taken him for more of an emotional drunk.

"Stop, Leo!" I put my hand against his mouth to shut him up. He's acting like a child.

He paused for a moment and slightly licked my hand so that I would stop covering his mouth. Ew.

"Your gross," I whipped my hand on my jeans and made a disgusted face.

"No you are." He failed to attempt to stand up from where he was sitting and stumbled on the ground making a loud thump noise. I swear to god If he wakes up Madeline I will make him sleep outside.

I bent down and put his arm around my shoulders propping him up into a standing position.

When we made it to the couch I loosened my grip on his body and he fell onto the ground missing the couch by 2 inches.

He groaned and pushed himself up. Plopping down onto the couch he pointed to the soft looking blanket on the chair next to me.

"No"

"Please?"

I gave in and handed him the blanket. He snuggled his face into the soft material and sighed dreamily.

Completely blank, I stood there watching him. He totally just took my spot. He has his own bed. I'm the one watching Maddie and the living room is closest to her room.

"I'm supposed to sleep there." I said but no answer. Leo didn't move. "Leo, that's my spot, get up." He still didn't move.

"Leo!"

He grunted. His eyelids barley fluttered open and he moved into a more comfortable position.

"I'm not moving. Take the bedroom."

"What bedroom?" I asked cluelessly.

"Mine." He muttered, but I heard him clearly.

"What?" I repeated in shock.

"Are you deaf? Mine." He repeated rudely.

"No, you sleep there." I tried to push him off the couch, but he wouldn't budge.

"No, I'm good." He said stubbornly laying there as still as a statue.

"I hate you." I frowned and he scoffed at my words. It wasn't necessarily hate, but more of a dislike kind of relationship.

"I hate you too." He blew a sarcastic kiss and closed his eyes falling into such a deep sleep, that I couldn't wake him up.

I left the living room and entered Leo's room. His walls where grey and I could tell Lily had decorated and picked out the furniture for him, because it wasn't his style at all. His bedspread was a navy blue shade and had silky white sheets underneath them. I awkwardly got under the sheets and covered myself with the blankets. My eyelids slowly got heavier and heavier, eventually putting me into a deep sleep.

***

My eyes flew open when I heard a frustrated groan coming from the living room. I looked at the clock on the wall. It was 3:37 a.m. I lay there perfectly still, afraid to move from my original position. A faint yell came from the same direction. I quickly jumped out of bed and ran as quietly as I could to the living room.

I tiptoed into the living room and my gaze landed on Leo. He was fast asleep, but his eyebrows furrowed and his whole body was dripping with sweat. He muffled a small yell while moving around on the couch no-stop.

I carefully walked closer and he yelled. I knelt down and sent a small reassuring 'hey, hey' his way. His eyebrows furred even more and his eyelids shot open. He quickly pushed himself up, pushing the blanket away and hyperventilated. What was going on? What was he dreaming about?

"Leo, Leo!" I yelled, paused and cupped his face in my hands. His eyes quickly looked into mine. "You're okay, it's okay now."

He let out a huge breath he was holding in and sat there as still as a statue. He looked so helpless, it worried me. Did he always get nightmares like this?

"You had a nightmare. What happened?" I asked quietly.

"Nothing." I could tell he wasn't as drunk as he was before because of how serious his face expression was.

"That wasn't nothing." I pushed. I wanted to know what it was about. Did it have anything to do with Cole?

He sighed and said "Will you stay away from Cole? For me?" I thought for a moment. What was so bad about Cole? What did he do to Leo to make him so vulnerable and helpless?

"You need to tell me why." I said and rubbed my eye with my thumb. It's way too early for talking. I am so not a morning person.

"He used to have a girlfriend. She used to be my best friend. They were together for about 4 months and he hurt her. Both mentally and physically Paige. He assaulted her. He's not a good person. I'm not going to allow you to make the mistake I did by knowing him in the first place." He said in a soft, but angry voice.

I sat there shocked. I was speechless. How could Cole, the nice and charming person I had met on the beach, be the complete opposite of... well, nice and charming. He was funny and especially good around kids. He really is the biggest dick on the planet.

I looked up and realised he was staring at me, waiting for me to say something.

"I understand." I said softly.

I realised that I moved my body so that I was sitting on the couch across from him. He moved his face so his soft lips were barely touching my right ear.

"I knew you would, princess." I slightly blushed at the nickname. He moved his head back into his original position and smirked when he saw my cheeks slightly pink. I quickly stopped myself from blushing even more and stood up from my sitting position on the couch to end up entering the kitchen. I grabbed a cup from the cupboard and let the cold water fill the glass cup to the brim. He'll need a lot.

While I stepped back into the room, I saw Leo had unpaused the Friends episode I was watching, and he leaned back into a comfortable position. I held in a laugh because of how childish he was when he was drunk.

Once I handed Leo his water and he took it from my hands, I sat on the far left side of the couch and folded my legs so my knees were in the front of me, facing the TV, and my feet were on the right of me on the soft cushion. My eyes landed on the giant tub of ice cream in his hands.

He caught me eyeing the soft serve and raised his brows,"As if you haven't done this." I snorted knowing I've done it more than thousands of times.

"I was gonna say; give me some." I demanded. His bottom lip twitched, but he kept himself from smiling, and he gestured for me to get it myself. So, I leaned closer to grab the tub out of his hands, but he pulled back, straightened his arm out and lifted the ice cream in the air. My eyebrows furrowed and I reached again, but his arm was too long for my short ones to reach.

"Leo just give—" I grunted and reached higher."—the ice...ugh...cream"

"Just come...ugh...get it." said Leo mockingly.

"I'm going to bed." I started to walk in the direction of his room but a strong hand stopped me from moving any further. I tried to stop him from pulling me back towards the couch.

"What are you doing?"

"Come baaaack." He stretched out the A in back. And pulled

"Stop Leo, I'm tired. I need to go to sleep."

"I don't care." He pulled me onto the couch and I tried to fight back, but he was too strong. We were basically in an awkward spooning position. There was silence for a couple of seconds.

"Leo?" I asked, but no response. I turned my body around to face his. His eyes were peacefully closed and he was still. He was asleep. How the hell did he fall asleep that fast?

I slowey tried escaping his grasp but his strong arms didn't budge. I sighed and the next thing I knew I was out cold.***

"You're coming right? It won't be fun without you." Said Carson. I laughed at this because I knew it was the other way around. Maddie was taking a nap and Carson had come over to talk to Leo about something, but I didn't know what. I assume he didn't know I was here because he had a shocked look on his face when he realized I was. When I woke up that morning Leo was gone.

"I don't know Carson. I went home with a cold last time." I reminded him. I attempted to cover my smirk by taking a small sip of my coffee cup. I'm so glad I have a good excuse not to go to another party again.

"I swear that won't happen again!" He yelled. I shushed him and whispered a small 'be quiet' because I didn't want him waking up Maddie.

He put his elbow on the cold island counter top and leaned his chin into his palm calmly.

"You're so difficult." He told me.

"I know."

He smiled "Fine. Suit yourself, It's going to be awesome." His face beamed as he imagined all the possibilities of this party. I don't get it. All parties are the same, how could one be so special?

"What would I even do?" I asked.

"Um, Have fun?"

He jumped off the counter and opened the fridge. Shuffling through everything he pulled out a couple pudding cups and walked straight out the front door. He said goodbye from afar and I sat alone in the kitchen.

"Can I have a grilled cheese?" A tiny voice said from behind me. I turned around and Maddie stood there in her pajamas. Her hair was all messy and she held Mr. Bubbles in her hands.

"Yes." I picked her up playfully and put her down on the chair I was sitting on earlier. I took out everything I needed to make grilled cheese. Minutes have gone by and I'm finally done making her lunch.

"What are we gonna do today?" I asked her as I took her dirty plate and put it in the dishwasher. She thought for a moment and her eyes lit up with an idea.

"The park!" She squealed and jumped off her chair. "I'll get a picnic blanket!" She ran down the hallway so that I couldn't see her anymore.

I started making a bag full of food for Maddie when she gets hungry. I decided to add the watered down apple juice boxes, grapes, and sandwiches. Maddie came running in the kitchen with a small red blanket the perfect size for just her. She quickly stuffed the blanket into the bag and grabbed my hand to leave for the park.

When we got there I had carefully laid Maddie's blanket on the long green grass for her. When I was a kid, whenever I played around on the grass, I always got a rash or some sort of itchiness that bothered me all day.

The first thing I'd do when I would go to the park was claim tone of the swings all to myself because I thought the rest of the playground was made of lava. And I just wasn't that good at sharing. The first thing Maddie did was go to the swings. I smiled at her as she swung so high she almost fell off. I did that once. I broke my arm.

I sat on the blanket and read my book, ignoring the rest of the world. A couple hours have gone by and Maddie was playing with a little boy her age. I looked around and saw a girl kissing another guy that wasn't kissing her back, about 6 feet away. Why did I notice those types of things? What made that guy so familiar? He was tall and had dark brown hair that was messy and covered the part of his face I couldn't see. He was wearing a large sweatshirt that had the number... I can't really see because the girl's body is covering the logo.

Suddenly he pushed her away from him revealing his face. I froze. His sweatshirt had the number 8 on it. Above the number 8 was the name Walker. I couldn't move my body. I felt like one of those ice sculptures that aren't necessary at weddings.

I frantically stood up trying to get out of their eyesight, but dropped my book that made a loud thump when it hit the hard ground. They turned their heads towards me and Leo saw me. I slowly backed up.

I couldn't speak.

"Paige, don't-"

"Don't." I said in a hushed voice. I didn't want to hear his voice.

"Maddie!" I yelled, quickly grabbing the bag full of our things. I ran towards Maddie and picked her up as fast as I could. A hand grabbed my arm.

"Paige it's not-" He took a few steps closer and raked his hand through his messy hair, but I cut him off.

"D-don't," I quietly stuttered. I couldn't bring myself to look at him. I quickly walked out of the park and towards my house.
