Truth Unfolds

Unlike the sapphire and emerald palace, the ruby palace was always crowded with servants walking around doing their duties.

Sweeping, tending the garden, and guarding every entrance. Despite them being busy, they have the time to greet Ailen when he walked past them. They bowed their heads hastily. Confusion-filled stare lingered in their eyes.

But not like the Emperor, they all looked relieved about the news.

It spread like wildfire. There are smiles on the servants' faces, and eyes gleamed from the overwhelming joy from knowing the Crown Prince has awakened. Healthy and exceptionally charming.

Ailen felt confident. There's no reason his people would loathe him now. He's alive and well, ready to take the throne when he grew up. Everyone saw it.

His only obstacle now was the Emperor.

He's not safe yet. He knew some people wanted him dead. Perhaps the Duke family.

Ailen will have to remind himself to study about the Duke family. Learning more about the selected candidate, making sure always to stay alert when they're around.

"Irma," Ailen called as he stopped when he saw the chapel in front of him.

"Yes, Your Highness?" Irma responded.

"I'll go with Meredith so you can do me a favor. Go and spread rumors about me to the city. Make sure every single person in Vyre to know about me," Ailen said in a quiet tone so only Meredith and Irma could hear.

Irma nodded her head without asking any questions. She bowed her head and walked away.

"That's a brilliant idea, Your Highness," Meredith complimented, her full with sincerity. "Everyone would love to know that you're awake and well,"

Ailen grinned as he continued walking toward the chapel. "Of course. If The Emperor and his followers wanted me dead, at least the people of Vyre will be on my side,"

When they reached the chapel's front yard, they saw priests rushing out of the palace with wide eyes.

"Greetings to the sun of Vyre, Crown Prince Aelin," They all said in harmony.

Ailen gulped, cheeks blushing from embarrassment. He gave a small smile and nodded his head.

The priests rushed ahead to stand in front of Ailen with their heads bowed in a curtsy.

"Your Highness, just now, we all finished praying and thanking God for saving your life. We pray that Your Highness will be granted longevity, health, and protection until you're strong enough to protect us all," The priest in front of him said with a wide genuine smile. The other priests also smiled happily.

Ailen smiled back at them, touched by his words.

"I truly appreciate your kind words, um,"

"I am the High Priest, Demarcus," Demarcus supplied; his smile caused his eyes to crinkled. "May I ask what brings Your Highness here?"

"Ah, yes!" Ailen gasped, forgetting momentarily about his main purpose. "I wanted you to assess my magic,"

The others looked surprised, looking at each other, and whispered. Their smiles grew wide.

"We're happy to assess your magic, Your Highness! Please, allow me to guide you inside, and we may begin the assessment,"

Ailen nodded his head, nervously followed Demarcus inside the enormous chapel with other priests, and Meredith followed behind him. When he looked back from his shoulders, he saw Meredith gave an encouraging smile and nodded her head.

Ailen smiled nervously in return.
