The sparring helped Sam clear her mind as she made her way to the house. The dense forest between her house and the gym filled her senses. The smell of pine and dirt wrapped around her like a blanket and the cool breeze kissed her skin. With a content sigh, she pulled her gym bag tighter over her shoulder and walked with a slight skip in her step. Her calm atmosphere was suddenly ripped apart. The constant chirping of birds was gone along with any other sound in the forest.
She stopped dead in her tracks as the feeling of being watched washed over her. Scanning the dense darkness around her she tried to see if someone was truly watching her but came up empty. She could see and hear nothing but the sensation did not pass. Without hesitation, she broke into a full sprint. Dodging trees left and right Sam ran with all her might. She jumped over fallen logs, tree roots, and rocks, but the feeling was getting stronger. Whatever was watching her was now chasing...no not chasing, hunting. She thought as she picked up speed. The darkness seemed to grow the further she ran, but she did not stop, could not stop. Whatever was hunting her, also caused her to push all her boundaries and run faster than she had ever thought possible.
Hearing something behind her Sam made a split decision. Making a sharp turn to the right she raced to a large tree and jumped. The speed and force of her jump allowed her to reach the branch and swing herself up. She landed elegantly with both feet on the branch and looked down at the ground.
Nothing, she thought as she tried to look closer at everything around her. The forest seemed calm and almost empty. She stayed in the tree for almost 10 minutes before quietly laughing at herself.
There is nothing in the forest watching you Samantha. She scolded herself as she gradually climbed down from the tree. The moment her feet touched the ground it gave way beneath her.
She was falling down what seemed to be an endless dark pit. She tried to grab onto the sides, but there were no sides. No walls or roots, not even dirt, only dark air. Suddenly images started to fill her mind. Memories of a past she only heard of in a place seem almost familiar. She was a young girl, probably no more than four; playing in the grass with other children. Their parents watching from afar and conversing with other parents. It looked like some sort of family outing. The image changed.
Now the once open park was scattered with the bodies of women and young girls. Men were snapping the necks of babies and throwing them onto heaps.
A woman now stood before her with a smile so calm all panic washed from her young body. The horror in the park forgotten as she stared into blue eyes.
"I love you my dear-" She was cut short by the image changing.
"She was looking at a man and woman kneeling on the ground, facing her and crying softly.
The sound of howling and paws beating against the dirt filled the air around them. Then she has turned away from them.
The image changed again and this time she was standing in front of a large open field. Then realization dawned, she was no longer seeing flashes of the past, but of the future. A battle was raging in the depths of the forest. Creatures of all kinds were ripping and tearing at each other. She looked up and saw that the battle was not only by land but by air as well. Terror filled her every sense as the images changed and she found herself standing in a pool of blood surrounded by heaps of dead bodies. The cries of a child calling for his mother floated to her, along with groans of injured people and the feeling of death.
The images started to fade completely leaving her in complete darkness once again, but she could no longer feel herself falling. She opened her eyes only to have a star-filled sky and treetops fill her vision. Her chest felt heavy and her legs weak along with every other part of her body.
"Sam!" The voice echoed through her mind like a boom mike. She flinched as someone grabbed onto her arm.
"What happened?" She croaked out only now realizing how dry her throat was.
"Sam. You didn't come home when you said you would. I started getting worried so I came looking for you. Did you fall or something?" Sam looked up at her panicking roommate Lea.
"Sorry, Lea. What time is it?" Lea looked at her friend worried but looked down at her watch.
"It's almost eight, I think we should cancel our girls night." She said pulling out her phone to tell the others.
"No!" Sam almost shouted out. "We've been planning this for weeks now. I'll be fine in a few minutes." She said getting up slowly. The whole world seemed to tilt on its access and she almost fell over but Lea steadied her.
"Are you sure? I'm positive they won't mind if we cancel." Sam smiled up at Lea who was a good 6 inches taller than her.
"I'm sure." Without another word, they started walking back to the apartment.
It took them no longer than 20 minutes to be dressed and ready for the night out. Though she stays busy a constant nagging feeling grew in the back of her mind.
Sam could feel a shift in the air. Something bad was coming, but she did not know what.
Lea was babbling about something that happened at work that day as they drove down the dark streets, but Sam's mind was elsewhere. The image of the future kept playing over and over in her head. What does it mean? What is coming? Why does it seem like she is the center of it all?
She jolted forward as Lea did her signature stop also ending her train of thought.
"Damn Lea I thought you learned how to stop over the weekend," Sam said rubbing the back of her neck in an overreacting manner.
Lea rolled her eyes before almost jumping from the car in excitement.
"Come one little miss grumpy everyone is already inside. Get your ass moving!" She climbed from Lea's little blue beetle and followed her to the back of the club.
"Hey, Dan!" She almost screamed at her fiancé. Before basically jumping into his arms. He laughed loudly and turned slightly towards Sam.
"' Sup shorty." With a scoff Sam walked past him, shoving him as she grabbed Lea by the hand.
To say the club was packed was an understatement. There was barely space for a mouse on the dance floor and the bar was surrounded by drunk men trying to chat up unknowing girls.
"What are you girls having?" Dan shouted to be heard above some Martin Garrix mix blasting through the whole building.
"Lea took a Long Island ice tea, while Sam took vodka on the rocks.
Dan was consumed by the crowd of bodies as he headed for the bar and Lea pulled Sam to the dance floor. They danced together just as more of their friends joined them. Soon they were pushing people away from them and making a circle to show off some moves.
First up was Dan. He shuffled and the crowd went wild when he grabbed Lea and they started dancing together. Their moves were in-sink but they would never admit that they actually practiced.
Every person got a chance to show off their moves. Just as it was Sam's turn the song changed to 'Dance For You' by Beyoncé. But instead of everyone grabbing a partner and dancing they ushered her into the middle. With a blush that could kill she closed her eyes and started to let the music take control. Cheering and clapping could be heard as she danced in the most sensual way she knew how. Her hips moved to the slow rhythm and her hands wandered to all places. Suddenly she felt warm hands grab her waist and pulled her into a hard chest. She froze but as the person behind her started moving she followed. Their bodies moved in complete harmony. She opened her eyes to find all her friends looking at her with shocked faces. As soon as they saw her looking they all turned to their own partners and started dancing.
She could feel the man's hands start to travel over her stomach. Usually, she'd pull away but after the 4th glass of vodka, she couldn't care less.
She tilted her head back, resting it on his chest. This position opened her neck to him and he took full advantage of it. She gasped in shock as she felt his lips press against her neck, but he did not stop there. His lips wandered higher till he was biting her ear softly. A moan escaped her lips with the sensation he was causing and she could feel his hardness press into her lower back. Biting her lip she turned in his arms, but he stopped her by holding her tighter to him.
The song ended and just as suddenly as he arrived he was gone. She felt cold without his body heat and longed for his touch.
Lea and Dan came up to her and pulled her from the floor.
"Sam..." she started, but Dan stopped her.
"No more vodka for you Sam. Do you even know who you were dancing with?" Sam shook her head still smelling his sent around her and feeling his lips on her skin.
"Sam that was the owner of the club. Nick. This is the first time I know of that he has ever danced with anyone. Do you know him personally?"
"No. I don't even know how he looks."
A dreamlike look passed over Lea's features. "Oh, Sam he is just beautiful. He is the definition of a sex god-. Hey, why was that for?"
She shouted at Dan.
"I'm standing right next to you." He scoffed and looked away with a pout.
Smiling softly at him. "My dearest Daniel. He might be handsome, but you are the root of my heart. You are my one and only. I love you." Her words had Dan smiling, but they had Sam's heart clenching.
She longed for a love like theirs, but no matter how hard she tried her heart could not bond with anyone.
Suddenly the air around them shifted. An Evil was within the club and Sam knew she had to stop it.
The club was soon filled with bouncers and security escorting people from the building. Sam saw them heading her way and quickly looked for a place to hide. Looking up she saw a pipe of some kind and jumped, grabbing it and pulling herself up. She looked around and saw a dark figure standing at the corner of the club with a glass in his hand. It was looking straight up at her. It's glowing red eyes burning into her amber ones. He raised the glass to her before tipping the last of its contents into his mouth.
Soon the whole club was empty and the music was shut off. The man in the corner moved to the middle of the floor as Sam walked along the pipes connected to the roof. He turned his gaze to a door that Sam did not see before.
The door opened and a tall man exited. His jeans clung to his strong legs and his black suit shirt hugged his body perfectly. His hair was dark and short, but not too short. His eyes were hidden within the shadows, but she could see a slight tint of silver.
"Ah, brother how are you? Father has been looking for you." The red-eyed man said circling the other man.
"If he wanted to find me he should have come himself." His voice, even laced with such venom almost made Sam melt. His voice was deep and raspy and it felt like it vibrated through her very soul.
"Come on Nick. Don't be such a buzz kill. I only want to talk."
"Then talk," Nick said. His answer was short and clipped but it held power. It gave Sam goosebumps.
"It seems that you found her and yet you failed to report it to us. Why is that?" Nick did not answer, but his stance became almost vicious.
"Oh, I get it. She isn't just a girl. No, I think she's much more."
"Leave Matthew. You are not welcome at my club."
"Oh, my dear brother. You wound me. Nicholas, what am I to tell Father of your betrayal? He will not be pleased that you let her live."
"Fuck father then. You will not harm a single hair on her head."
With a roar, Matthew launched himself at Nick. He seemed to be flying with the speed he used, but Nick dodged it easily spinning around to punch Matthew in the back of the head.
Matthew stumbled forward but gained his balance and spin around.
The sound of bones breaking filled the air as his body started to change. He got down on all fours as his back arched and his head hung low.
Suddenly his clothes started to tare and his bare skin was replaced with hair. His face seemed to change as well. Becoming longer and more threatening as his eyes burned an even brighter more deadly red. His hands became paws and his fingers became claws.
Sam stared I awe at the dirty brown wolf now growling up at Nick, who seemed to be more relaxed than before. The wolf jumped at him with jaws snapping and claws extended but Nick stepped to the side and wrapped his arm around the wolf's thick neck and they both went crashing to the ground.
"Don't fight me, brother. You know you cannot win." The wolf kept snapping it's massive jaws and claws, but Nick held on firmly.
Something caught Sam's eye and she snapped her head in that direction.
Another wolf, smaller than the brown one, but just as evil was stalking Nick. Crouched low to the ground crawling softly towards them.
Without hesitation, Sam jumped from her hidden position. She jumped on top of the unsuspecting wolf without a sound and pressed his head to the ground as not to allow him to make a single sound. The wolf tried to move, but she wrapped her whole body around his, keeping his jaws closed and squeezing her legs around his body and her one arm around his throat. After a short struggle, the wolf collapsed to his side, but she didn't let go till his body went limp.
When she looked up she saw Nick still holding on to the other wolf and talking to him, but the wolf's eyes were on her. They were filled with surprise and shock before they too closed.
Nick stood up and turned around only to stop dead in his tracks when he saw her and the limp wolf by her feet.
Her heart stopped when their eyes connected. His silver eyes seemed to completely drown her as he walked closer. Again she was consumed with his sent. His eyes flashed black before he grabbed her around the waist with his one hand and pulled her against him. She gasped from the sudden touch and her eyes grew wide.
"Mine." He whispered. That word snapped her from her daze and she pushed him away. The strength from her push shocked him and he stumbled back. When he regained his balance, Sam had already disappeared from the club.
Nick looked back at his brother.
"She will not be touched by you and if you as much as look at her wrong I will rip you limb from limb." Matthew groaned as he shifted back into his human form.
"When Father hears of this you will both die." Nick ignored him and walked back into his office. He knew he had to find her again. And soon by the venom dripping from his brother's voice.
