18: A Special Chapter For My Special Pups!

Mikaela POV

I don't understand why Ashley is so sick. She has a fever of 115°F and my wolf won't tell me what's wrong. She can't get out of bed unless I carry her. She's been throwing up, too. This has been happening since we fully mated last week.

"Babe, I think it's time we go to the pack doctor," I tell her as I help her back into the bed from the bathroom in our apartment.

"Okay. Help me get dressed?" she asks, and I nod, setting her down on the bed and going to get her clothes.

As I dress her in simple black yoga pants and a lilac colored shirt, I feel a small bump on her stomach. I hope she's pregnant, but at the same time, I hope she's not. I don't know what she has or how it will affect the baby.

As we're driving to the pack house, I stay silent, just nodding my head and grunting occasionally when Ashley speaks to me. I carry her into the pack hospital and the nurse at check-in leads us to a private room. Then, a few minutes later, the pack doctor comes in. She's followed by a nurse who's carrying this huge sonogram machine.

"Um, what's that for?" Ashley asks the doctor, who just smiles.

"First we're going to give you a routine sonogram. I'm assuming that you mated, and so I think I know what's going on," the doctor says cheerfully. "Yup. You're pregnant. And that explains this fever and everything else," she says after the nurse does the sonogram.

"How does that explain how sick I am?" Ashley asks, and then it clicks with me.

"You're changing. When werewolves are mated with humans, sometimes those humans will change into werewolves so they can accommodate pups. We finished the mating process last week, and ever since then you've had this fever. The change has taken this long because your new wolf is trying to make it the least traumatic on the pup as possible," I explain, and the doctor and nurse both nod at my mate and I.

"I'm going to be a werewolf?" Ashley asks excitedly.

"I think you already are. Your fever is completely gone and your pregnancy bump has increased in size to match that of a werewolf pregnancy," the nurse states happily.

"Who said that?!" Ashley asks unexpectedly, making me laugh.

"Your wolf, dear. What's her name?" I ask, laughing a bit more.

"She says her name is Carmen," she says, grinning ear to ear.

"So do you think I can shift now?" I ask Carmen, or try to ask her, but Mikaela responds.

"You'll have to ask your wolf if it's safe for you to shift during this pregnancy. It always varies depending on the pup inside your beautiful little stomach," Mik says ecstatically and Carmen mentally nods to me.

'So will I be able to shift?' I focus really hard to only say this in my head, to Carmen.

'Yes. You might actually need to deliver in my form if our pup chooses that form for your delivery. If not, they'll change into their pup form about a day after their birth.' Carmen says softly to me.

'Is there a particular nickname you want me to call you? It's just that Kyle calls Xander Xan and Jordan calls Ezekiel Zeke.' I say, rambling when Carmen doesn't say anything.

'Ummmm. Some of my past humans have called me Carma, Car, Men, but my full name is Maricarmen, so one person called me Mari. It's up to you.' She rambles on as well, and it's clear to me then why we were paired together.

'I think I'll call you Mari as well.' I say and we both smile to each other .

We continue our conversation, both happily. At some point, Mikaela leaves the room and closes the door, but I don't know when and I didn't hear the door close. Apparently Mari and I spent abrightlyround 2 and a half hours getting acquainted with each other.
