Chapter 12 - Let’s gamble

I was observing the woman sitting in front of me, she looked like a pro at this dice game .

She seemed to have sensed that I am a beginner and explained me the rules of the game willingly "

First off, let me explain the dice game:

1st step : We take turns and put two dices in a opaque (non transparent ) cup .

2nd step: we shake it couple of times.

3rd step: Players guess the number

4th step: Dice reveal

5th step: If a player correctly guess the number , he wins all the money in the bet , if they guess the same number and it's correct , it's a tie. If all players are not capable of guessing the correct number , it's a tie.

In the case of a tie, the money betted on that round will keep stacking up until one of the player finally wins the game and accordingly wins all the money.

Simple. "

I listened to the rules and when I felt like I understood them, I nodded.

As I looked upfront she was still smiling, I wondered what was up with this woman. Anyway I ignored it like usual.

I gave the lady the first roll to prove that I am gentleman . She willingly took it and gave the dice a shake. Yep, I knew it , she is a pro. She looked chill while doing it as if she has been doing this for years now.

I didn't know what to do as she was shaking so I looked around at the other dice tables. I saw some men listening closely to the dice bouncing inside the cup to guess the correct number while some acted like they didn't care . I found it very funny but was it even supposed to work?

Was I also supposed to listen to dice rolling ? But why? How could I guess the correct by hearing the dice roll inside a thick layered cup ? Anyhow , it seemed impossible. So I just didn't care and counting looking at the woman in front of me while she was still shaking . Well, this all happened in after of seconds so of course she was still shaking the cup .

Funny how human brains can have so many thoughts in a matter of seconds . But the thoughts also have a language and this language needs a time to be spoken , so how does it only take seconds to occur so many thoughts inside our heads ? This thought also appeared in my brain in a second while she is still shaking that damn thing. It is a Mystery , Anyway I will let the scientists figure out this. I ain't got no time.

As my thoughts were running in the speed of light, she suddenly stopped shaking and put the cup upside down in the table to cover up the dices.

She gestured me to pick first . I politely accepted and put my bet in number 7, 500 dollars.

She asked me while tilting her head to a the left side "Did you bet on number seven because it is considered a lucky number?"

I guess that's what you thought as well.

But no ! That's not why I did it .

I replied back innocently "No, I don't believe in luck . It is mathematically proven fact that when two six sided dices are rolled , the probability of the number appearing beneath the cup is more likely to be 7 than any of the other numbers because it is the number which has the most possible combination in this game if numbers. Which leads to the conclusion that you are six times more likely to roll a 7 than a 2 or a 12. You are twice as likely to roll a 7 as you are to roll a 4 or a 10. However, it's only 1.2 times more likely that you'll roll a 7 than a 6 or an 8. Still, 7 is the most probable number out of all, so that's why I chose 7. Not because of I believe that 7 is a lucky number or so"

She stared with a look of interest and reached to the conclusion while saying " So you are the nerd type huh"

I replied honestly "No miss, you got me wrong. "

"So what's up with this all mathematical calculations"

"Well, my best friend named Google delivered this information to me"

She looked at me with a look which I remember making when I saw a rare animal in a Zoo. Anyway I didn't know her , so I ignored her .

She also made a bid in the number 9 , 500 dollars .

I wanted to ask based on what did she make her bid. But because I met her today for the first time , I hesitated asking.

The cup was turned and the number was 9.

I gave her a surprised look but thought it might have been luck.

Second round , I bid at 7 again and she made a bid at number 8. Same thing happen, I lost.

Third round , I bid at 7 again and she made a bid at number 6. Same thing happen, I lost.

First time , could be luck , well, second time too. You know third time as well, but I didn't believe that she could win three times back to back. So I finally asked her "how do you decide your bid"

She asked me sharply "What do I get in return?"

I had nothing on me other than money through which I wanted to bid so I replied "I got nothing worthy for your information"

I ignored this topic while I kept playing trying to figure out her trick . She didn't listen while shaking . I even checked the cup thrice to make sure she wasn't cheating but I found nothing suspicious. So she must have some trick to always guess the correct number , it's self explanatory,it's not luck.

After loosing all my money while betting on number 7, I still couldn't figure out . While I stood up , I was not depressed , but curious about her way of figuring out the unturned numbers in the dice .

They say "Curiosity kills a cat" but because I wasn't a cat , I asked her as I was moving away from the table towards the exit "What's your trick"

She replied smilingly while stuffing the money I lost against her in her briefcase which was being hold by two tank top wearing men "It's not a trick, it's experience "
