Ayans Attempt

Zara laid on her back on the pile of hay of the floor wondering about the cold season coming up, according to Ayan it should be here within a couple of weeks time.

She looked over at a large wooden container that Ayan had made for her and got up to go inspect it.

"We have plenty of vegetables right now but we'll probably need more before the cold season hits in. Also the herbs we need can be dried so they don't go bad. Ayan and Reiner can still hunt in the winter so I don't think meat will be a problem. And there's still plenty of firewood but it wouldn't hurt to get more...."

"What are you doing my female?" Ayan asked.

"I'm just making a mental list of all the things we will need before the cold sets in. That way we don't have to go out as often or run out of the things we need." Zara explained.

"Well in that case why don't you accompany me to get some of those things? That bird brain went out to go hunt so it might be a while before he gets back."

"Alright!" Zara said with such excitement.

After a while of walking Zara and Ayan finally made it to the forest. Ayan started cutting up firewood with the axe he brought along while Zara searched the area for herbs she could dry.

While Zara was pulling an herb out that looked like mint she felt something hit her shoulder. She looked up at the sky and saw that it had gotten gray and dark.

"Ayan?"

Ayan came up from behind her and hoisted her onto his back. Quickly outrunning the rain he took her into a nearby cave where they could wait out the rain.

"Well this is a bummer, we really need it to clear up soon so can finish getting the rest of the things we need." Zara said with a disappointing look on her face.

"Don't worry, day showers don't usually last too long, so we should be able to finish collecting the rest of the things you need by nightfall."

After a couple of minutes sitting in the cave next to Zara watching the rain fall, Ayan realized that this was the first time they had truly been alone since Reiner moved in.

This was his chance!

"Zara!"

"Eh?!" Zara jumped at the sound of Ayan shouting, "did something happen!?" She asked.

Ayan noticing that he had flustered Zara toned down his voice, he was beginning to get nervous. "Erm no, it's more of the opposite actually. You've been here with me for a few weeks now, but you still haven't accepted a contract with me. Even that bird brain Reiner seems to be closer to making one with you than I am. All the other males in the town make remarks that perhaps there's something wrong with me and that's why you don't accept me....."

Zara could see that Ayan was hurt by this. This was never Zara's intention, but she had a hard time accepting the rituals of this world and couldn't just jump into a contract without really giving it some thought first.

"It has been a while since I've known you, and you always take such good care of me, to be honest I'm not sure why I haven't accepted you. Its just that this is all so new to me and I'm having trouble adapting." She told him.

"But if you accepted me things would surely be so much easier for you!" Ayan exclaimed.

Zara could hear how hurt Ayan was. Maybe it was time, maybe it was time she finally accepted Ayan....

Zara leaned closer and gently placed a kiss on Ayans rough lips. Startled by Zaras initiative, Ayan quickly recovered and grabbed Zara by her wrists pinning her down to the floor of the cave.

The cave was chilly but both Ayans and Zara's body temperatures had raised due to the situation at hand.

Ayan gently caressed her body while the embarrassed Zara closed her eyes, she couldn't bare to look at Ayan right now.

Suddenly Ayan stopped.

"Ayan?" Zara whispered.

"My female, are you in heat?" Ayan asked.

"Heat? What do you mean?" Zara looked down between her legs to see a blood stained floor.

Her period.
