The past few days hadn't been has I had hoped. I didn't like the fact that we argued so much and never agree on the simplest things. Especially the Night I had gone out with Hawa. That night had shown me how bad things could get and how much I still had to figure out and know about Ridwan and even though the morning after he had sent flowers and chocolates home for me from work. The memories still linger
I guess marriage is like that, it doesn't come with a manual or anything so you have to figure out a lot of things by yourself. Many say the first and second year is the best but why were we arguing so much anyways.
I decided to wake up early to prepare Ridwan's best dish today. I was hyper this morning and happy, I wanted the whole day to start with goodness, no fights or arguments just good vibes all day long.
"Good morning Handsome"I smiled from the kitchen counter as Ridwan walked towards were I was in the kitchen.
"How was your night" he said kissing me on the lips.
"Amazing I guess and my morning just got better by seeing you" I smiled removing the apron I was putting on.
"You're awake early" he said curiously
"I decided to make your favourite meal early this morning" I said as I prepared to serve the table.
"Wow, nice" he said sitting at the dinning
"So, tell me how has work been since you got back" I asked trying to at least talk about something he will be interested in.
"Same old, same old. Dad is thinking of making me the C.E.O of the company here in Abuja" he said
"That's amazing news, I am so happy for you. You deserve it. This is all you have ever wanted" I said smiling.
"Yeah, I know right" he said
"By the way, dad invited us for dinner today. So you should try to be ready by 5pm" he said
"That's nice, alright" I said
"Are you not going to say anything about the dish" I questioned curiously as Ridwan stood up from the chair after eating.
"It wasn't bad" he said with a grin on his face.
"That's all you're going to say "it wasn't bad". It took me hours to prepare that meal. The least you can do is acknowledge it and give nice compliments" I said in disgust
"I really am not ready for your drama this morning Tes" he said walking away to go into the room.
"That's it, you're just going to walk away" I said as he walked away.
I couldn't understand if what was up with Ridwan was his Ego but I sure didn't like this side of him because it doesn't bring anything but arguments and trouble.
"Wear the blue one, I prefer it on you" Ridwan said as I tried on the dress I was going to be wearing to Ridwan's parents house.
"I don't really like that one though"I said looking at him were he had been sitted reading the newspaper for this morning.
"I don't want you dressing anyhow there, I want you looking your best" he said looking up from what he was reading. I didn't want to argue with him so I just put on the blue dress. We have had enough for today already.
Few minutes later we left the house, Ridwan's parents house was a distance from our house but it didn't feel like it because there wasn't any traffic on the road. We got to the driveway putting the car to a halt. I didn't know why I was nervous even though it wasn't my first time seeing them and I also knew how nice they were. Ridwan's sister Salma who is the same age as I am and I have actually been really close since I started dating Ridwan so I was more familiar with her.
"Welcome love, it is so nice seeing you again" Mrs Khan said has she urshered us inside. They lived in one of the biggest house you could ever imagine and also one of the most expensive places in abuja Asokoro. It was the real definition of Luxury with workers all around attending to their needs.
"Same here Ma" I said with a smile.
"Sister!!!" Salma exclaimed as she pulled me into a bear hug and I just smiled. I still will never understand why she calls me that. She once said it is because I am the sister she wished she had but never had. She is one of the most amazing human I know. She finished business school abroad recently before she came back home and she is the complete opposite of Ridwan too...she can be rebellious sometimes like the time she traveled back to Nigeria for a party from London without anyone knowing at home but she later confessed to her brother though.
"It's so nice seeing you again, it's been a while. You look amazing" I said, smiling.
"Welcome you two"Mr khan said as we all sat in the dinning room.
"How have you two been" Mr khan asked
"Very well"I replied.
"What should I serve you" The chef asked
"We will have Rice" Ridwan immediately answered not even bothering to ask if that was what I really wanted.
"You too look amazing, Marriage life is really treating you well" Salma said as she winked at me and I just smiled.
"So Teslimah, you said you finished with Nursing in school. Have you started looking for a job or if you need any help we are here to help. We have some connections that can help" Mrs khan suggested
"We decided she isn't going to be working" Ridwan immediately said
"No, we haven't" I countered looking at Ridwan.
"Yes, we have"he said again and I just narrowed my eyes at him.
"Anything you guys decide is really okay" Mr khan immediately said already feeling the tension between both of us.
"Tes please can you help me pick my cloth out. I have a date tomorrow" Salma requested. It was already feeling awkward at the table already so I was glad she asked.
"Sure" I said
"Excuse me please" I said to Ridwan's parents not wanting to be rude.
"Thank you love" Salma said as we walked to her room.
"I know my brother can be really stubborn sometimes. Just don't mind him, he will come around" Salma said as she searched through her closet for things to wear.
"I hope so" I said sadly.
"So, are you really going on a date" I asked curiously.
"Yes I am, why do you ask" Salma said putting the options on the bed
"But we talked about this already now, you are supposed to be taking a break from this whole relationship stuff" I said
"I know but I just can't, this is me and I have never not been in a relationship. It's hard for me" she said as she sat on the bed "this one might just be the one" she added. Salma's story is quit a sad one. Salma is one girl that has always loved with all her heart but it feels she has always loved the wrong ones. She is such a sweet and lovable girl but she keeps falling for the wrong ones. Either they want her money, just dupe her and run away with it or she meets the one that cheats or beats her. The last one cheated on her with her best friend and it had really traumatized her and I had suggested she stayed away for sometime at least but she doesn't seem to want to.
"I really hope he is "the one" too" I said
"I am having my birthday party next weekend you should come" Salma suggested but I kinda knew how it was going to go.
"I would really love to but it's Ridwan"
"I will talk to him, I am sure he will let you" she said and immediately I got a text from Ridwan that it was time for us to go.
"I think we are about to leave" I said and as I was going out. Salma followed to probably ask Ridwan for permission.
"Goodbye everyone" Ridwan said as we were about to open the door to leave.
"I hope we will be seeing you more often" Mrs Khan said and I smiled.
"Ridwan, can Tes come to my birthday party next weekend"
"She won't be able to come" Ridwan said opening the door to leave and I just looked back from Salma to Ridwan.
