Rinzen had spent almost all of his teen years feeling vaguely uncomfortable in his own skin. He mostly knew he was awesome, okay; it was just that he was also acutely aware of his flaws. Or at least the things other kids counted as flaws. His intensity for one thing, that often made other kids he was getting friendly with 'back off'. His True-blue loyalty had always been an understatement for other teenagers who just weren't prepared to handle that kind of fidelity.

The babbling thing annoyed most people — actually all people — on the days when he couldn't focus, and on the other days when his attention was sharp as a razor but limited in scope they resented his stillness and silence.

Balance was hard for him, and he had struggled for years to find that line.

Now he was supposed to be some kind of hero?

"Honestly", he concluded, "I don't remember much after that, except this blinding heat. I felt safe and then I felt extreme heat racing up my body, and I think I passed out", he stated shrugging as he sat up as Marcia's healing aura receded. 


And here Marcia had almost given up on being surprised by Zen at this point. Not only does the man have amazing hand-to-hand combat skills, but he's also got tactical awareness not common in High School teenagers. 


John huffed, “That’s a good thing because what happened after that was something I’ve never seen happen, and neither has any Elder on the planet. Maybe the first warlocks of our family-tree know or knew, but I’ve been researching for a year and I still have no idea”, he shook his head and rolled his eyes at the memory. “And contacting my grandfather, your old pa, is a bit like wading through mud looking for a needle you didn’t even drop”, he rolled his eyes just thinking about it. “Anyway, it went a little like this—”
