Ersel was too shocked about what he had learned that he had not said even a word to Van while they were going back to the car. Even Van could not say anything for several minutes once they were both inside his car since he did not know how to comfort Ersel.
[So I was right. He really is my childhood friend Lino.] Ersel thought while wearing a gloomy facial expression. [And he doesn’t want to be friends with me again.]
[What should I say to make Ersel smile?] Van thought, feeling confused about what to do. [Now that we both know the truth, shouldn’t he be happy about it?]
“Hey, Ersel,” Van called, with Ersel not even looking at him. “Now that you know that Lino really is your childhood friend, what will you do? Do you plan to confront him about that?”
Ersel shook his head and, without looking at Van’s eyes, replied, “Not for now.”
“What?! Why not?!” Van asked in astonishment. “You already have proof, so why don’t you confront him about that?”
