-Skyler-
Six pairs of eyes focused on me.
Ambrose was seated at the head of the table, with two men to his right and one to his left. Next to them were two females.
To his left was clearly, Jason, his Beta. I could tell by his smell. Not as hot as Ambrose, but hot, in my opinion. He had a slight stubble, dark, longish hair like you would find on a person who spends a lot of time close to the coast. And an aura of intimidation. He looked sort of like a greek god too, but more like the god of War than anything else. His sharper features contrasted Ambrose’s softer face. He had high cheekbones with round eyes. Ambrose was still much hotter. Jason looked too serious, and like somebody who liked being in power, and if I wasn’t a silver wolf he would be scary. He was probably full of himself too. He didn't smile. The man on his right, which I smelled was Gamma, wasn't as hot as the others, but he wasn't ugly. He looked rugged and hard, but with boyish blue eyes. Not a very special blue, but more a run-of-the-mill blue. His face had a look of slight irritation which made my wolf angry. As if my mere presence was beneath him. He reminded me a lot of a stereotypical high school jock you would see in the movies. Next to him was another wolf. I couldn’t smell rank on him. He regarded me with kind eyes and genuine curiosity, his face rounded with waves of dark hair like the ground after rain.
Surprise flashed in Ambrose’s eyes. A smile spread across his features. "Hi, Skylar. Did you sleep well?" He probably thought I would refuse to meet him.
Who were all these people? Thos feels weird to me. Social interaction and all that. "Yeah. Thanks," I looked at the rest of the people at the table. The female closest to Ambrose had striking red hair, and she looked fierce. Her makeup was perfection, completed with a red lip to match her hair. She was gorgeous. The other female looked so young. So innocent, with her freckles, blond hair and soft eyes. She reminded me of a doe. I was still standing in the door, awkwardly not knowing where to sit.
"Mind introducing me?" looking at the other people, I was irritated that we weren't alone. I had to tell Ambrose some really important things, and that definitely wasn’t happening I front of these strangers.
“Yeah, of course! I would love to. But first, sit.” He motioned to the seat at the other head of the table before he continued. Dragging out the chair I inwardly cringed at the noise it made.
“This is Jason, but you know him already,” he flashed me a ghost of a smile. “My third-in-command, Gamma, Nate.” No smile, no recognition that he was even mentioned. Definitely high school jock vibes. “These are their mates,” He motioned to the others, indicating to introduce themselves.
The redhead began speaking almost immediately. “Good morning, Luna. My name is Liza-Marie ,but you can call me Liza. I am Beta-female, mate to Jason. It is a pleasure to meet you,” she said with a deep bow of her head. I finally got a good look at her. She also had green eyes, like Jason, but her’s were darker. She had very light skin, not pale but not tan, full lips and eyes like a cat’s. I wonder if the hair was natural. If you look at her complexion, the hair matches, making me think she had Irish ancestors. I couldn’t detect and accent though. Weird. She clearly had curves and big boobs, and looked fierce and self-assured, while being drop-dead-gorgeous. She made me think of a biker-chick with her leather jacket and navy tank top. I had no doubt that she could cut a bitch. I doubt she let many people call her Liza, and if they did, the probably wouldn’t get the chance again.
As soon as she was done, the other girl started speaking. “Tanzanite, Luna. I am honoured to meet you. I am Gamma-female and Nate is my mate, along with Bishop,” she looked sheepishly at the other male who smiled at me. She had slightly curly. Her brown eyes, a shade of chestnut, were surrounded by long lashes, which were black. She was really skinny, as I could see her collarbones poking out from the off-shoulder sweater she was wearing, which made her look innocent and fragile and I immediately had the urge to protect her. She was like the polar opposite of Nate, judging from looks only. The other wolf, who I assumed was Bishop, reacted first to my confusion. He chuckled. “Nate and Tanzanite are my mates, Luna. I’m Bishop, nice to meet you.”
Well that’s interesting. I wonder how all of that worked. I’ll find out later.
“Nice to meet you all. Liza, Tanzanite, Bishop.” I said in what I was hoping was a friendly tone. They both smiled at the mention of their names. I greeted them in order of rank, just like I knew I was supposed to, smiling at each of them in turn. “Jason, nice seeing you again,” I said without a trace of a smile or pleasantries. I did not forget how he tied me up the first day we met. “Luna,” he said with a smirk. A smirk? Who does he think he is?
I turned to the Gamma. “So, Nate. Tell me about your mates. You are the only one who hasn’t said anything since I came in,” I smiled, dripping with friendliness, feeling bolder after the respect the she-wolves had given me. If you couldn’t kill them immediately, kill them with kindness. Nate looked directly into my eyes. I could see hate in them. For what or who, I don’t know. “I met my Tanzanite when she turned eighteen earlier this year, just after my twentieth birthday. We met Bishop together, just a few months later.” he talked as if it was against his will , but the last part was laced with love and adoration towards Tanzanite and Bishop. She blushed when he talked about them meeting. Bishop looked sheepish. What bothered me though is, his eyes never left mine the entire time he spoke. Which didn’t necessarily mean anything- I just felt like he was challenging me in a way- seeing if I would be intimidated.
“That’s pretty cool. Seems like you three complement each other in an interesting way.” His face contracted into a glare. At me? For what?
“Jason. Tell me exactly who the Beta pair of this pack is.” My words laced with as much venom as I could muster without directly saying he was a piece of shit for doing what he did when he first saw me. I didn’t actually want to know, I just wanted to push his buttons.I looked directly into his eyes, challenging him to disrespect me. I smiled at Liza. My muscles already tensed, preparing for a fight and expecting it. What I didn’t expect though, was his answer. “It would be my honour, Luna. Before I continue I would like to sincerely apologise for the way I treated you before I knew you were our future Luna. Because of my ignorance, you were mistreated. And for that, I am truly sorry. I was also wary of the fact that you were a Silver Wolf. My humblest apologies, Luna Skyler.” He directed his gaze down, while showing his neck in submission. That was very, very unexpected. I am shocked. Quickly recovering, I replied, “I accept your apology, Beta Jason. You were uninformed at the time. No hard feelings.” I said as genuinely as I could, flashing him a small smile. “So how are you Beta? Born into it or chosen?” I asked.
“Born into it, Luna. My father was the Alpha’s Beta, and so on. I became Alpha Ambrose’s Beta when he was made Alpha on his nineteenth birthday and when I turned eighteen. I met my mate a year later, on her eighteenth birthday.’’ Liza was smiling. She clearly loved him. I grinned. At least one mated pair was normal and happy.
I just came to realise that everybody stopped eating when I came in. I was still famished. Looking at the table, my mouth watered. Fruit, pastries, bacon, eggs, pancakes, waffles, juice and Cheerios were all placed in the middle of the table. Everything looked amazing.
“Oh I’m sorry, I interrupted breakfast. Please, continue eating.”
Ambrose was smiling at me, broadly. He looked handsome when he smiled and I like it, and so did my wolf. I couldn’t help smiling back.
“Try the pancakes, my love. Rita makes the best.” He said, a sly smirk appearing on his face. He was hiding something. I knew it. I just hoped it wasn’t in the pancakes, because they really did look good.
“Thanks. I will.” With that, Liza passed the plate of pancakes to me while Tanzanite passed the syrup. I put four in my plate, clearly to Ambrose’s delight as I heard a sigh of contempt escape his lips.
Just then Nate dropped his cutlery abruptly. His eyes glazed over, clearly linking somebody. “What now, Nate?” Ambrose asked.
His eyes returned to normal, and he looked at Ambrose. “Nothing serious Alpha, just the chief telling me we got a rogue on the east border. They caught the filthy mutt though, and he is waiting in the dungeons for you. God I hate rogues, the filthy things.” He said, a looked of utter and pure disgust covered his features. A low growl escaped my throat.
“Say that again, Gamma?” I dared, while slowly rising from my seat. I may not technically be a rogue anymore, but I still didn’t like how he spoke about them. Some wolves become rogues out of necessity, like me.
Just as I was about to lunge at him, Ambrose threw the table across the room and grabbed Nate by his throat.
