As we headed towards my home, I watched the car's details. It was as big inside as it was outside and the father in front of us had so many buttons that I was curious to know what they were for. I thought about asking, but I remembered that I was still mad at him and I didn't want to speak to him, so, intrusive, I started to squeeze each one of them, while he watched me in silence.
The first, as I imagined, turned on the radio and angrily Christopher pressed it again, stopping the sound. I huffed and squeezed again.
— Are you intrusive like that all the time or just in your spare time?
— What's this for? I asked, ignoring what he had asked.
— Don't press it! — Too late.
My curiosity had spoken louder, and when I pressed it, the top of the car started to open.
— Holy shit, can you be quiet?
— Wow, it's a convertible! — I looked up and watched the sky while I felt the wind on my face. There were few stars, and the moon was full.
— Like a child.
— I can teach you the kind of child I am.
— Sure! — I could almost see the symbol of carrying on top of his cane and when he realized what I said, he reacted. — Wait ... no! What is your problem?
— I'm bored in my boss's car. I would like to be doing something more exciting right now.
He looked at me sideways and I shrugged. — You don't really measure words, do you? You have very serious difficulties keeping your tongue inside of your mouth.
— Usually, I prefer to leave my mouth full of something else. — He opened his eyes wide. — With an ice cream, for example. It's hot, don't you think?
— So, take a cold shower and turn that fire down.
— Wow!
— Wow! — He repeated, looking around, then I realized that he no longer referred to the same subject. — Really? Do you live here?
— Yes, why? Is it that bad?
— I live in the condo right there, turning left.
— Why am I not surprised? Only important people live there. — I rolled my eyes. From the kitchen window of the apartment, you could see the condo. There were only luxurious houses inside and his was one of them.
I unlocked the belt as soon as he stopped in front of the building, so he got out of the car quickly and came to open the door for me, as if he were some specimen of a rider. He held out his hand to me and I looked at him.
— What's it? The last time I saw you getting out of the car broke your jump.
My cheeks flushed slightly, and he gave a good laugh making me even more ashamed. — Okay but stop laughing at me.
— You give me all the reasons in the world to laugh at you, Dulce Maria. You are crazy! Completely crazy!
— And you're a bore. — I let him help you out and then I stood, facing him.
— Ready. It's delivered. — I kept looking at him. — What's it? Aren't you going in?
— I'm waiting for you to let me pass, you're on my way.
— Ah! He took a step to the side. — So be well. See you tomorrow.
He held out his hand again, but this time I didn't give mine to him. — Thanks!
I thanked him and went out towards the entrance to the building. Before entering, I took one last look, and he was still standing watching me.
— If you need a ride tomorrow, call me. I'll pass right here in front.
— Why would I need a ride?
— Because your car broken down in the company garage? — He crossed his arms and I let out a sigh, for a moment I forgot about this big problem. — I'm leaving, have a good night.
I watched him get in the car and continue on his way without even looking back. I stayed there for a while and finally decided to enter the building.
— Good evening!
— New boyfriend, Miss Dulce? — Asked the doorman and I opened my eyes wide.
What had made him come to that conclusion? Christopher, or rather, Mr. Christopher had only left an employee at home after making her stay late at work.
— What? Not! Of course not, it seems. That is just my grouch boss. — I gave an exactly quick laugh. — As if!
A bath, pajamas and a glass of wine after dinner, and only then did I realize how tired I was. I sank under the blanket, turned on some music and lay looking at the ceiling to relax. That had been just another day of his bad mood and I knew it would continue. After almost a bottle of red wine, I was already out in bed.
The next day, I once again had to face public transport, so I had to leave a little earlier. Arriving at work, as there were still a few minutes to go, before going to the office, I went through the garage and got some things left in the car, and when I was going towards the elevator, I stopped in one of the cars to see if everything was in place. I was looking at my reflection in the glass, adjusting each part of my clothes, so I bent down a bit and looked in the rearview mirror, checking that there was no lipstick on the tooth, and it was exactly that the moment the window opened.
I jumped to the side and looked into the car. A man, very thin by the way, with short black hair, green eyes and a well-shaved beard, was looking at me as he laughed shamelessly at my face.
— I think everything is in place, girl.
— Oh, I'm sorry! — My cheeks certainly couldn't get redder at that awkward moment. He opened the door and left, fixing his tie. — Wow! What a handsome!
— What?
— Oh gosh, I thought too loud, didn't I? — He nodded. — My bad, sorry, let's pretend it never happened, by the way, you never saw me here.
— All right, however.
— Excuse me, I ... I'm late.
I went out like crazy, wishing the elevator would open soon, frantically pushing the button and when it finally arrived, I jumped into it. I was so ashamed that when I arrived at the office it was still red, so I went to get some water to see if it would cool and return to normal.
Returning to the living room, to my greatest despair, Christopher was there, messing with my table, and the worst, next to the guy I called hot.
— Ah, there you are. Christopher looked at me and I froze at the door. — Dulce, this is Alfonso, vice president of the company.
— Ah, your name is Dulce, then. — He crossed his arms looking at me.
— Have you met? Christopher looked at him and then at me, a little suspiciously.
— You can't imagine how. I mumbled and he opened his eyes wide.
— We stumbled across the parking lot; it was no big deal.
— What were you doing there? Isn't your car broken?
— I...
— Never mind. — He shrugged. — Let's go in. We have a lot to talk about before the meeting.
— Okay. See you, mirror girl. — He winked at me. — It was a pleasure to meet you.
— She's my secretary, you son of a bitch, take your eyes off her!
— I didn't say anything. — He gave Christopher room to enter.
Alfonso ... Alfonso ... wait, wasn't the Annie's boss and pickup? Lucky girl, however, he was very naughty.
