Once upon a time, there lived a kind cople of elders.
They had a beautiful love story. They were friends since childhood and stayed by each other side till they became old. Nothing could their them apart. Not even the fact that the woman could not get pregnant.
They lived happy, in a small village, covered in snow half the year.
There were happy children, enough food every winter and no war, just the calm peace.
Even so, in the beautiful small hut where the elders lived, you could smell a faint of sadness. They were old, but had no one to look after them. Every day they wok up very early to go to the fields to work till night fall. It became harder and harder, and the couple feel more and more lonely.
Every day they would go to the village temple to pray. The pray was always the same.
" Please, let us have a bit of sunshine, in the form of a beautiful small person, who we can call our child."
The problem was, there was no fertility goddess temple in the tow. Nor family or motherhood gods lived there.
It was just the lonely master of snow, winter and death.
A kind old couple who wanted a daughter and prayed in a temple every day.
Even so, the couple prayed the same sentence every day at sun set.
In one beautiful winter day, snow covered everything you could see.
Even so, the village was as happy as ever. The children of the village went to the elder's yard to build a snow statue with then.
The elder husband was a very skilled carpenter, and could shape snow in any form.
The children asked for a princess, and the elder started to carve. The children would provide snow, branches and stones. The wife did hot drinks and snacks as usual.
It was a delightful moment.
The laughter and cries of children filled the garden.
The winter wind mingled with the hot steam from the food.
Clothes kept them warm, and cold kept them awake.
And then, the carpenter stops carving.
All children gathered to appreciate the results.
A tear escaped from the wife's wise eyes.
It was a little princess dressed in simple clothes. She had the couple's features, but she was prettier than any girl they'd ever seen.
The carpenter's experienced hands lightly stroked the princess's hair. Causing some snow to fall and reminding everyone there that it would soon melt.
-I wish she were real- muttered one of the little boys. Everyone nodded in silence as they looked at the statue.
The great snow king also watched with sad eyes.
He also didn't want her to melt.
In an impulsive decision he lightly blew on the statue.
The fine snow that covered the statue flew away, revealing a beautiful pale princess from below.
The princess was motionless for the first few moments, all eyes were on her.
Then she breathed in a slight icy wind, and slowly opened her calm green eyes and lightly lifted her head to take in the surroundings.
Then, the princess looks at the couple and asks in a sweet child's voice:
- Parents?- The old people cry and the princess arms.
Children start jumping screaming and laughing.
Some return to their homes shouting:
- The carpenter got a daughter! He won a snow daughter! -
While others tried to touch or talk to the girl.
The princess confused by the messy question quietly:
- Brothers? - The boys in the village go crazy and run in all directions to return with their hands full of presents.
-The younger ones gave things like beautiful river rocks or pine cones.
The older ones gave straw and wood puppets, some gave stilts and leather balls.
Those who could read brought the girl books.
Due to the children's alarm, the villagers soon learned of the news and began bringing gifts too.
Children's clothes, food for them to grow healthy and new tools the size that children can handle.
It was in this rush that the princess's first birthday took place.
The next few days went as usual, in the same routine with the same things happening, but the village had a new energy.
In particular, in the cabin of the old house.
The princess was a cheerful and intelligent girl.
She was a fast learner and very skilled.
In a short time she could help the couple with anything, and accompanied the boys on all their adventures.
Inspired by the girl, the couple and the entire village got together to teach the girl everything they could.
That was, during the winter, of course.
When summer comes, the heat begins to melt the princess, revealing the couple's worst nightmare.
The very skilled carpenter built a house that kept the heat out for the princess.
Bricks, metals, expensive wood and even glass were used to build such a house. These were materials normally used by the nobility, but everyone in the village agreed to buy the necessary materials, by the way, she was their princess.
The first summer she agreed to stay in the cabin.
While all the other children ran, swam and enjoyed the benefits of the summer, the princess only watched everything from the single window of her hut.
Every day she hoped that winter would come soon. As soon as it started to cool down, she left the cabin in euphoria. She played with the other children until she got tired. But then it started to rain, and even though the weather was cold, the rain melted the princess with great speed.
Aprinceza got hurt badly, the boys managed to save her life by taking her clothes off to cover the princess and taking her to the nearest hut. After that the princess was bedridden for a week. The entire village feared she would never get up.
When it started to snow, they left the layered princess' bedroom window open. The chill of Snow King's magic breath came through the window and healed all the girl's wounds.
That day she woke up like a senate had happened and the whole village celebrated her recovery.
From that event on the princess was never allowed to leave the hut until the first snow had fallen.
Fortunately, one of the oldest boys in the village decided that he would spend his summers playing music and telling stories to the princess. Even though she rebels every summer, the young man's company made her feel less alone.
The boy was of a fragile nature, while the princess was energetic and strong. The two complemented each other in an odd way. The boy couldn't go out during the winter, or he would get sick, and the girl couldn't go out in the summer.
The two became inseparable friends, and no one doubted that they would someday get married.
Then one summer day, the boy came running back from the forest and knocked on the window of the girl's hut.
- What is that makes you so in a rush?- Asked the princess. The breathless boy answered in a frightened tone.
- You have to help me! A monster is coming here!
- We should call the soldier! - Answered the smart girl.
-Please no! Only you can defeat him! - Unfortunately, the girl's pride spoke louder.
She covered herself with a white cloth to hide from the sun, and I ran out of the cabin as I followed the boy into the forest.
The heat made her feel weaker and dizzy, but the shadow of the forest made the environment cooler and a little more bearable.
Then they came to a gutter. The girl's body was already covered in sweat and her breathing was heavy, but she believed that no matter what monster it was, she would defeat him. In fact, the boy she trusted the most believed in that.
But it was no monster she encountered in the clearing, it was a slender man with a wand and a sorcerer's cloak.
The boy turned to the princess and apologized.
- I'm very sorry! I really am! But he said he'll kill me if I don't bring you here.
The magician waved his wand and the tired princess didn't have the strength to resist the spell, everything went black. Her last words were.
-Coward.
