Chapter 26

"Once there was a time when I was just like you", Lyanna said softly , a smile on her lips . Carina smiled back , trying to play innocent .

"Charles's father was a good man ." She nodded .

"Charles is too", Lyanna tried to cover up . She knew nothing about the scene he had caused earlier in his chamber .

"Everyone in the family is very kind", she lied expertly . These antics were taught by Sophia . Lyanna seemed to stiffen . Silence prevailed as they busied themselves with the food .

"I was wondering..." Lyanna trailed off ,"How close were you with Thomas ?"

Carina replied straight with a tight smile ,"Not that close ." A lie .

"He was just my neighbour ." A second lie .

"He moved to some other place when I was 14 ." Another lie .

"We barely interacted ." The biggest lie of all . Lyanna hummed , seeming satisfied with the information . The rest of the dinner went on without much conversation . Carina felt sick after lying so much . She was becoming like her mother .

-: Flashback :-

The raindrops kept falling , wetting him completely . He now had been kicked out for the ninth time . Just because he spilled some wine . Carina waved at him from the window . He slowly took steps and stood in front of her , only a glass seperating them .

'Why are you out there ?' Carina wrote on the foggy glass .

'Punishment' Thomas mouthed his reply . Carina's bottom lip quivered . So did Thomas's . His from the cold , hers from the painful sight infront of her . They just stood there like that . Staring at each other through a glass .
