Chapter 55

Carina knew what she was doing was cowardly. She should have informed anyone before she made such big of a decision. But she couldn't bear it anymore.

The thought of Nathan going after Thomas, hurting him and, or, killing him terrified her very core. If he wanted her, he would have to chase her to the end of the world. She would never succumb to him. She took bated breaths as she anxiously knocked on another expensive door. She was met with a displeased looking Cecilia.

"Good evening Sister", Carina mustered up all her courage and gave her brightest smile. The lady on the other side of the door frowned deeply.

She spoke, voice hoarse,"I'm not feeling well. Could you please leave me alone ?" Carina observed it all too well. From the way her hair looked dishelved to the dark circles under her eyes.

It all gave away the fact that she was, hurting.

Her body had started showing signs of carrying a child and Carina remembered every woman she had met till this day had told her, "women need to be happy during this period."

Carina lowered her voice, "I know you don't want to see me. But please, take care of yourself. You have another life growing inside of you." Cecilia's eyes narrowed as she let out an exhale.

"I want to strangle you to death but you're the only one who has been nice to me this week." Carina gave a small, hopeful smile. She was right. Cecilia hated her.

"Do you want something to drink? Perhaps a little tea would help? My mother used to say Lavender soothes the nerves. But I don't know how to make tea." Cecilia remained silent.

Carina's eyes followed her fingers and narrowed in on the sparkly little thing. Their wedding ring. It was a little baffling how much rage she felt when she first saw the article on the newspaper compared to now. Now, she felt nothing.

"You have done horrible things", Cecilia's words came out as a whisper.

"I had nothing to do with your brother's death. It's a misunderstanding."

"You took my husband away from me", her voice turned ice cold, head hung low.

"I did no such thing. Your husband is still very much yours." Carina stated matter of factly.

"Then why isn't he here?!" It was the loudest shout Carina had heard. She felt unsafe.

"If you called him, he'll come in an instant."

"No, that's the problem! You-You don't have to call him! He's always lingering next to you!" Streams of tears ran down her pale cheeks. Carina gulped.

"Because he's my best friend, Cecilia. That's just it. He doesn't feel anything for me other than that."

"Lies!" She stood up from her bed, dashing towards where Carina stood.

"You know what? You both are the biggest liars I've seen." Cecilia's voice hardened.

"You're not in your right mind. You need rest."

"I'm not sure if he even wants this child... " She sobbed.

"He's already searching for names! How can you doubt him this much? He's your husband! He's a good, faithful man Cecilia!" She sobbed harder.

"What's going on here?" The voice broke both of them out of their stances.

"Lia, why are crying?"

Thomas looked agitated.
