Chapter Ten: Hello Veronika...

I left the coffee palace without taking a single sip from my coffee. Something churned my mind leaving me unsettled maybe it is because of the revelation revealed by Jason or the thought that this was all an elaborate game being controlled by some sicko.

"Hey Nikki" I turned around to face the voice and it was Jessica the last face I wanted to find

"Hey Jesse" I had my fake smile back on

"Alexa wants to have a word with you" she didn't smile back I couldn't even find any weird smile on her and this worried me

"What does she want to talk to me about?"

"You are a red angel now, you have some obligations so please just follow me" she grabbed my hand and I finally saw the weird smile and it made me feel uneasy how her behavior was as flippant as the damn weather but nevertheless I followed her silently.

We arrived at the Haven I was led by Jessica in, when we got inside it looked like it was being prep for a teenage princess party there she was, I saw Alexa coming down the stairs. She was wearing her usual classy but sexy dress but she had a different glint in her eyes, she looked super happy about something

"Hey Veronika" her smile gleamed at me with pure happiness

"Hey Alexa, why do you want to speak to me?" I didn't want to waste anymore time than I already have I really have bigger problems right now and wasting my time talking to princess Alexa wouldn't fix any of it

"I'm hosting my eighteenth birthday bash" she squealed excitedly but all I could think of was how wrong the first party I had here went

"Wow. That's great news" it is great news for her but not for me I couldn't shake off what I just learnt

"You are also invited, and please try to dress much better" Alexa words were spiteful but I knew exactly how to make a mean princess feel little

"Thanks for the invite but I won't be attending" I spoke with an evident hint of sarcasm hoping it would be enough to hurt her giant ego

"What! What do you mean you won't be attending?"

"It means I won't be attending your princess party, I have better plans for tonight" I blinked but declared scornfully and by the look on her face she wasn't happy about it

"What plans would be better than my party?" She blinked her eyes wildly while Jessica moved to stand beside her

"I don't think I have to tell you about whatever I do with my time" I smirked and face back against them heading for the door I heard Alexa whispering something to Jessica but I couldn't care less about whatever it was I only hoped this party won't be another epic failure with someone dying at the end. Immediately I stepped out of the haven my phone buzzed at my back pocket. I felt uneasy when I saw it was a call from an unknown number

"Hello..." I tried to listen but all could hear from the other side was someone cool breathing my skin grew cold "who is it?" I choked on my own words as I was about to put an end to the one sided conversation the other side finally spoke

"Hello Veronika" the hard male voice called out my name sending chills down my spine

"W-who are y-you?" I trembled

"Who I am you will get to find out when it all ends" the voice said I could tell whoever it was had a wicked grin on, it was clear he was enjoying this

"What do you mean when it is over" my grip on my phone got tighter

"Why did you lie to Alexa, you and I both know that you don't really have anything fun to do tonight" how did he know, was he perhaps watching me?

"Are you watching me?" I flung my head around in search of my unknown caller in vain

"I'm always watching you Veronika, oh how was your chat with Jason it was a shame you left without having even a tiny sip of your coffee" his words made my heart clench it was confirmed that every action I made was being watched closely and that made me shudder in fear

"We are going to play our first game together Nikki, and the name of the game is called guess the bloody red angel" he said with a tone cold as ice "so you guess which red Angel dies at Alexa's party and try to stop me from killing her"

"I'm not gonna play your sick mind gam---" I was cut rudely off

"If you involve the police the bloody angel won't be the only bloody body found" I muffled in some tears

"Don't cry Nikki the game is on" I heard a beep and the call was over, I ran over to my dorm crying uncontrollably I could feel my world spinning round and I couldn't make it stop first I found out my mom went through the same hell that I'm going through and now a crazy psycho called asking me to play some sick guessing game what the hell is my ordinary life turning to. I pushed the door open and stepped inside my dorm but all of a sudden all I could see was darkness all around and all I could hear in my head was a laughter I had long forgotten, a laughter that haunted my childhood memories all I could hear was the impish laughter of a girl I had long forgotten. I lost my balance I was sure I was heading for the ground but then I felt warm hands grab unto my waist sustaining my fall. My vision began to clear permitting me to look at the blue eyes of my rescuer. I could hear my heartbeat slow down as my eyes became fixated on his face, admiring all his great features from up close.

"watch where you are going" Gabe snapped me out of my daze

"I-m so-rry" I left his arms trying to stand on my feet

"Yeah you are always sorry" he rolled his eyes at me but all I felt was a tear drop roll down my cheek

"Hey. Why are you crying?" he knitted his brows "if someone walked in they would think I hurt you or something like that" I couldn't say anything about what was really bothering me to him even though I wanted to pour out my heart to anyone with anything as much as a listening ear

"Hello, don't think I didn't noticed you have been acting a little bit weird today so tell me, I just might be able to help" he smirked at me. He looked different today maybe it is the fact he wasn't wearing his glasses or the fact that he was smiling at me for the first time

"I wish you could but no one can help me now" I couldn't tell him for a lot of reasons but the top on it was that I couldn't trust him or anyone

"Well suite yourself" he opened the door behind me gently and dashed out. I went to check up on Riley to find her fast asleep then I walked over to Damon's room he was the one person I could at least tell all that made me burn from the inside. I knocked on his door hoping he was around thank the stars he was I heard him say come in in a disheartening tone I came in to find him putting some pictures into a red box, my eyes could spot a picture of what looked like a younger and happier looking version of Caitlin

"Hey" I inched closer to him he looked troubled with deep melancholy I didn't want to add to his depression "what's that?"

"It's just pictures of me and caith when we were little" he briefly said "did you find out anything?" I went on to narrate the entire story Jason told me

"Is that all?"

"I got a call from an unknown number " his eyes grew open "he told me that we were about to play a game called guess the bloody angel and warned me not to involve the police"

"That's great news" he had a sly smirk on as his right hand stroked his chin

"How is that great news?"

"All red angels are

going to be at Alexa's party so for the killer to kill any red angel he would have to go to the party which we will be waiting for whoever it is". This idea honestly scared me, going face to face with a killer wasn't what I ever a item on my life bucket list. I always planned for my life to be ordinary and without terror. Going to college to be the best neurosurgeon and marrying someone I loved then have about four adorable kids was always what I envisioned my life to be not this.

"Veronika don't worry i'm here with you. It will all be fine" Damon said calmly with a assuring smile

"So what is the plan? "

"We just go to the party and keep an eye on all the red angels and I have a plan to keep them at least safe." he had a smirk on his face

"What plan? "

"I'll try to get all the red angels in one room then seal them in, that will make our job a little bit easier" that could work. I wanted so bad to believe it would work but one lesson I learnt throughout my experience here is that anything can happen. This thoughts reminded me of my dad favorite quote which is 'always expect the unexpected'.
