Part 5 : What are you ?

It's been a month that we're in town and we're in biology class. Again. I'm gonna start thinking that this is the only subject in this school. Cora and I are officially best friends. I feel like I know everything about her and that she can't hide anything from me. The class get started and I can't stop thinking about what Hayden told me, on the first day at school. "Back off". And like everytime, I get upset quickly, say something stupid and lose control over everything.

-You don't really like Hayden, right? I ask Cora.

-Not much. Do you wanna say bad things about her behind her back?

-Pretty much.

-Okay, I'm listening.

And I told her all about my little talk with Hayden, back on the first day, how her warnings about Liam pissed me off and the Theo thing.

-You did what?!

Everybody turned their back to listen to us.

-Class is the other side of the room, dushbags.

I said, mean.

-I told her I could easily date Theo.

-Theo ? This Theo? Seriously?

-What, you don't think I'm capable of asking him out?

- I think to make her shut the fuck up, it should be him who askes you out. But what makes you think he wants to?

-That's why I need your help! And I heard him telling you I was hot on the first day at lunch so I though maybe...

-Wait... How did you hear that?

-I sincerely have no idea.

-And I have to talk to Scott.

And she leaves precipitely the class, leaving me alone.

-Cora, I don't think you had the permission to... Where did she go? says the teacher.

-I don't know but... I'm gonna check on her, see if she's alright. I'll be right back!

-Izzy, I don't think that's...

I slam the door, running.

... Necessary. Whatever.

-Cora! Cora! Where are you? Okay, that's kinda weird and creepy but only because I overheard some random conversation, it doesn't mean I'm a freak! Come on! Where the hell are you?

-I remember you. You're the new student in second year. Lahey's little sister.

I turn around. A senior on the LaCrosse team is standing in front of me. We're obviously alone in the hall.

-Am I supposed to know who you are?

-No.

-Then who the hell are you?

-I'm not gonna tell you.

-Nice... I'm looking for my friend so will you please pass by?

-Hum... No.

-I'm sorry, what did you just say?

He grabs my arm. Put a hand on my hip. I try to move but he doesn't let me.

- Oh and, how's your brother? He's not lucky. You know, having his ass kicked on the first day. It doesn't happen to everyone. Karma's a bitch.

-Okay... First, that's my line, and second, I don't let dicks like you rule my life.

It's quick. One punch in the head, the second in the stomach. And to end him the old fashioned way, some kick in the balls. It always works.

-Karma's a bitch.

I walk away, satisfied to have found the one who beat my brother up, but really upset that I can't find Cora. Suddenly, I hear a voice. Cora's voice. It's coming from the history classroom, I think. No, just in front of the door.

-Scott. I need to talk to you. Right now. Meet me outside in five. Find something so nobody askes questions. It's important, it's about Izzy.

-Finally! Why did you leave? Luckily I could hear you.

She looks at me, chocked. That's when I realized.... There's something wrong with me.

-Even I cannot hear a conversation at this distance, even less guess from where it's coming. What are you?

-What do you mean, what am I? Hello I'm Izzy, the one who says dumb things and acts before thinking about it? Well it's me and I haven't become "something" else in five minutes.

-You're not like me. But you don't know what you are. Yet.

-Okay, I'm sorry but this is totally confusing. Like you're saying things that I can hear perfectly but that I can't understand. You've completely lost me and even if I'm your friend, I kinda start to feel like I don't recognize you.

And then, she calmly leaves me. Yes, you've heard it well. She leaves me, alone in this damn hall with all my questions still not answered. But, suddenly, I feel a paper in my right hand. I read it.

It says "Meet me at the adress below at eleven pm, you'll find all the answers you're looking for, promise.

-C.H.
